Better (Too Good #2) by S. Walden Cover Reveal & Giveway

Title: Better (Too Good #2)
Author: S. Walden
Expected Release: November 19, 2013
Hosted By: Romance Addict Book Blog –

Their relationship has been exposed, and now their lives are changed forever.

For Cadence Miller, the fast track to adulthood proves intimidating and frustrating. She’s a little girl lost—abandoned by her parents and uncertain of her future. She doesn’t think she “fits” anywhere. She’s eighteen. She wants to be older. And the result is both comical and heartbreaking.

Mark Connelly will do anything to provide Cadence a stable, loving home—to be her protector. But he’s just as broken and lost, and his heart won’t let go of his past so easily. He knows he must share his secret with Cadence. And he hopes his revelation won’t tear them apart. He hopes it will draw them closer, and make their love better.

She made sure to look as inconspicuous as possible for her first day of classes: jean shorts, tank top, flip flops. She kept her hair down but pulled it off her face with a headband. She wore a tad bit of makeup. Nothing showy, but she thought first day classes warranted mascara and lip gloss, at the least.

She slid into a seat in the row closest to the windows. She didn’t bother to look for Michael. Or save him a seat. She still wasn’t sure about that guy. She felt guilty for not telling Mark about Michael’s kissing comment. She wanted a friend, but she was unsure if he was a good one. She scanned the room for somebody better. She needed a girlfriend. And there was one sitting directly behind her.

“Hi,” Cadence said tentatively.

“Hi,” the girl replied.

Cadence wasn’t sure what else to say. Neither was the girl. That was until she recognized Cadence.

 “You went to Crestview High.”

Cadence’s face fell. “Yeah.”

“My friend went there. She graduated with you.”

Cadence nodded.

The girl leaned in and whispered, “Did you really have an affair with your math teacher?”

broken fences final

Colden Saint James, Dusty Owens, and a single night of passion had equaled to poor old Mr. McAllister’s broken fence. Add six years, a troublemaking photo, and there’s not a fence in Texas that’s gonna be safe.

It took Dusty Owens two years to land Colden “Saint” James, even if it was for only one night, but the very next day, he was gone. Now, years later, the “Saint” has returned, but he’s no longer the do-gooder rookie cop Dusty remembers.

Dusty Owens always had a way of making every single one of Colden’s man parts go all hard. He’d been so close to falling for the girl before he’d left Odessa. Now, due to a troublemaking photo, Colden must return to his hometown to keep her safe. Trouble is, he’s a different man—not to mention the change. Well, it’s gonna cause all kinds of problems where Dusty Owens and all of his man parts are concerned.

“No,” he said in a harsh whisper. Barely touching her, his large form hovered over her body.

She couldn’t move or say anything. Immobilized by the fear induced by the man who pinned her to the bed, her panting carried on in the shadowy room.

“No, don’t do this.” He cradled her face gently with large hands. “Don’t be afraid of me. Not like this. You hear me?” The moonlight illuminated his eyes. They glistened with affection. “You be frightened when I kiss you.” His mouth brushed over hers.

Her breath caught in her throat from the brief kiss and from the way he passionately gazed down at her.

“Be afraid of the feeling you get between your legs when I touch you.” The weight of his body lowered on hers, his thick hardness imbedding her flesh. “Fear me when I’m finally deep inside of you.” He pressed closer.

She let out a cry of desire, not from fear. Her hips moved as she tried to rock against him.

A smile touched his strong lips, and his tempting mouth lay suspended over hers. “You fear what we will become when I again make you mine, sweetheart.”

The warmth of his words cascaded her flushed face. The tenderness in his voice and the soft pressure of his palms upon her cheeks added need to her already desirous want.

“And what you should really be afraid of… what you need to fear,” his eyes dropped to her mouth, a rough thumb passed over her quivering lip, “is what you mean to me in here.” Colden tapped his chest as dark eyes lifted back to hers. “Because being trapped in here, Dusty girl…” He pointed to his heart. “Well, that should scare you a lot more than being safe out here with only your arms around me.”

*3 Stars*

Broken Fences is about a girl who fell in love with the town do-gooder. After a night of passion where she loses her virginity to Colden, Dusty is left heartbroken when he leaves town the very next day. Six years later Colden comes back to town and he is definitely not the do-gooder Dusty remembers him to be. He’s sent back to their home town to protect her and keep her safe after an assignment that kept him away goes wrong.

Even though it’s been so many years since they’ve seen each other neither one of them have ever forgotten or stopped loving each other. Dusty tries to fight her feelings for him, she doesn’t want to fall back into the girl she once was and give him the opportunity to hurt her again. Nothing about him is the same as she once knew, he’s not the same guy he used to be and because of his job he can’t tell her the truth about why he left her.

“The new and improved St. James was hot, and her knees were already begging to hit the floor for him.”

“The man actually smelled like sex-hot, sweaty long, hard sex. Every hormone inside pushed for her to lean forward, to get closer to the thigh-clenching aroma.”

Colden doesn’t let her anger towards him stop him from getting what he wants. Dusty is his and no matter what he always gets what he wants. He’s hot and sexy and this older version of the man that once broke her heart has her lusting after him once again.

“I’m through giving, pretty girl. Now it’s takin’ time. But you don’t worry. You’re gonna like what I plan to take from you. I promise.”

“I’m gonna f*ck you so good. I’m gonna f*ck you so hard. And, one way or another, I’m gonna get rid of all that hate too.”

This was a good, sweet story with some steamy sex thrown in the mix. The character were interesting, the plot had me invested, I just felt like there was something missing. After reading the synopsis I expected the threat to Dusty’s safety to be more then what it was. I wish the author would have committed to that aspect of the story a bit more so we could really feel like there was a real threat. I also kept waiting for that moment in the story that catches my breath when two characters finally fall in sync with each other but that moment never came for me. There were moments that I really liked though don’t get me wrong, just wanted more.

“Where is everyone?” I call out as I walk from the kitchen through the living room, finding no little munchkins in there.

“Helloooooo!” Still no noise.

“You can’t hide from me! I’m going to find you!” I continue taunting them as I make my way down the hall. I can hear little giggles coming from behind Grace’s closed door.

“Shhh! I don’t want him to find us!” Grace whisper-shouts at her sister.

“I am being quiet! You’re the one laughing!” Candace tries to quietly argue back.

“No, you’re not!” Grace states loudly back to Candace this time. I bite my lip to hold back my own laughter. I pause outside the bedroom door and quietly put my hand on the doorknob.

“Ready or not! I’m going to get you!” I yell, as I bust through the door. Grace shrieks and runs to the left, while Candace attempts to scramble on the floor to the right.

I grab Candace, while dashing across the room for Grace. We all fall onto the bed laughing. Stuffed bears and Barbie dolls go flying everywhere as we roll around on the bed, their little legs and arms flailing around. The girls struggle to get away while I tickle them as best I can, considering all the squirming they’re doing.

“Stop! Stop! I’m going to pee my pants, Uncle Jacob!” Grace shouts breathlessly and pulls on my hand. And that right there is my cue to stop what I’m doing. I so do not need to take a bath in urine.

Grace runs out into the hall and slams the bathroom door behind her. Candace leans into me and wraps her arms around my waist. I kiss her hair and look over at Kara, who is sitting in a tiny chair in front of a table, set up for a tea party and littered with makeup. She has a wide smile on her face and she’s wiping the tears caused by her laughter.

“You’re so good with them,” she says, looking as though she is thoroughly impressed with my interactions with the girls.

“It’s nothing really. I mean, look how great they are. It’s easy to spend time with them.” I rub Candace’s back, while her head rests on my chest.

“It isn’t nothing. Not many men would get right in and play with them like you do.” She looks out the window muttering, “It’s actually pretty damn sexy.” The last part she said so quietly, I almost didn’t hear her. Well then… Kara thinks I’m sexy. I can feel my ego swelling from her words.

“Hmmm… well that’s good to know.” I wink at her and head over to the table to see what craziness they have going on. It’s not at all because I have the sudden urge to be closer to Kara. Definitely not.

“You want to play tea party with us, Uncle Jacob?” Candace asks and then sits down in the chair across from mine.

“Sure. I can always go for a nice cup of tea with a couple beautiful girls.”

Grace comes barreling in like her hair is on fire. “Don’t start without me!” She shouts at us.

I put my arm out to stop her from running into the table and lower her into the chair next to me.

Candace sets the white and pink cups with saucers in front of each of us while Grace prepares the “tea” in her pink pot. She pours us each a cup and we pick them up and pretend to sip our tea.

“This is the best tea I’ve ever had,” Kara says in between sips.

“I agree.” I pick up a plastic cookie and pretend to chew. “And these cookies are even better. Did you make them yourself?”

“Noooooo! Momma made those!” Grace laughs and picks up her own cookie, looking at me like I’m crazy for even asking the question.

We continue playing tea for a while before the girls turn their attention to the makeup Kara had gotten out for them earlier. I’m beginning to feel hive-ish watching them pick up the different tubes and jars. I have a feeling I know what’s going to happen if I stay in here much longer. Don’t get me wrong, there have been times where I’ve worn a feather boa or had some sort of necklace or bracelet dangling from my body. I’ve even played Barbies with my nieces. I mean – I pretended Ken was a secret spy while doing so, because if I’m going to be forced to play with dolls, they better be as cool as James Bond. But never – and I mean never – have I worn makeup and I really don’t want to start now. There are some streaks that are meant to not be broken.

“I think I’m going to head down to the man cave and see what your dad is up to,” I say while making my move towards the door.

“No!” Grace shouts and starts to push me down by my shoulder. “I want you to play dress up with us. Please!”

“Yeah. We hardly ever get to see you anymore. You can’t leave us to go watch TV with Daddy,” Candace adds in with a cute, little pout on her face.

And that’s how I find myself – hook, line and sinker – wearing eye shadow and having glitter dusted on my face. The amount of fun the girls are having is well worth it. The smiles and laughs are priceless in my opinion. As long as it doesn’t leave these four walls, my rep will still be intact.

“So, how do I look? Hot, right?” The girls just smile big and nod politely. “Maybe you guys should give me a mirror to look at and see for myself.” I reach for the mirror across the table, but Kara gets there before me.

“You have a little smudge, let me just…” Kara trails off while her thumb swipes my temple where I must have eye shadow smeared. Her hand rests on the side of my face, while she gently moves her thumb back and forth. Her eyes look over into mine and you can hear her sharp intake of breath. For several seconds we do nothing but stare at each other. Her blue eyes are like looking up into a bright, cloudless sky. I watch in fascination, as her pupils slowly dilate and fill with desire. Her pink tongue darts out and wets her lips. Without my consent, my body starts leaning towards her. She’s pulling me
into her, like a moth being drawn to a flame. Just as I’m about to cover her mouth with my own, Grace and Candace start arguing, effectively breaking the moment. Kara pulls away quickly, stating rather weakly that she needs to make a call before leaving the room.

Shit. What the hell was I about to do? I can still feel the breath from her mouth on mine and her damn blue eyes are burned in my brain. This is not good whatsoever. Haven’t I learned anything from all the shit that’s happened this last year? Keep your tongue in your mouth and your dick in your pants. I just need to keep reminding myself that.

*4 Stars*

“I’ve loved Jacob Matthews since the first time I met him.”

Ain’t that the freakin truth!! After I read Love Square, I was 100% Team Jacob!!! If Sam didn’t want him I’d gladly take him!!

“It’s pathetic my life has come to this. I have no clue how it got so out of control.”

Jacob is unhappy in his relationship with Brooke. She’s mean, rotten and selfish but he doesn’t know how to leave her.  The more she pushes him away, the more he starts to notice her friend Kara. Through unforeseen circumstances Jacob and Kara end up leaning on each other. One thing may lead to another but no matter what Jacob is still in love with Sam.

“How do you tell someone that you’ll never love them the way they love you?”

Finally he gets the ammunition he needs to try and win Sam back.

“You can’t lie and cheat your way into someone’s heart and not expect to face the consequences once you’re caught.”

Will what he finds out be enough? What happens when you’re in love with one person while someone else is in love with you? Will he end up with the girl he loves? Or will he open his eyes and see what was standing in front of him all along?

“You only get one person who completes you. One person who gets who you are and helps to make you better without trying to change you.”

This book turned out different than I expected. Jessica ended up throwing me for a bit of a loop with what I thought was going to happen but still did justice to Jacob’s story.

“I’m itching to know more of the story.”

Yup!! I needed to know exactly where she was going with this!! No matter what my feelings towards Brooke were still the same. She needed to be out of the picture and STAT!!! Then I met Kara and I was all confused!! All I can say is Jacob definitely deserved to end up with His Ever After…with whichever girl he deemed worthy!

“Why do you call me sunshine?”

“Before you, all I knew was darkness. You brought the light into my life.”

Rock and Roll Never Forgets
by Barbara S. Stewart

*5 Stars*

“There’s always that one story, the one personality that sticks in your mind.”

Ever read a book and have no idea how to explain it to someone, you just know that it is something that needs to be shared. This is one of those books. It is so moving, heartbreaking, it was just well…

“It’s that story you just have to get. Sometimes the story goes away before the opportunity arises. Some that you think will go away, never do.”

This is a book that sticks with you, moves you. It is real, it is emotional and I really can’t express everything it caused me to feel or what you will be left with. This was an ugly cry book, you know those books that put you right there and literally claim pieces of you. Leaving you so emotional and so open, that you can never forget it. I will never forget this story, the story of Andy and Bethy. This is a love story movies are written about it.

“It was love. He loved her-deeply. She loved him. They were soul mates. They finished each other sentences, laughed, cried, joked and shared. It was truly one of the most beautiful experiences of my career.”

Soul mates we use the word a lot but these two are why the definition was written. They grabbed me from the first sentence they were together. I felt every first right along with them. When they hurt I swear I did too, I was one with them.

“You crawled into my soul and became a part of me.”

“In my world, it’s you and me. In my world you’re all I see. You’ve taken me to a new place in the world. The world I share with you.”

I lived in this world as I read these journal entries. Through them we are literally put in the very beginning of Andy and Beth’s life to the very end. You get multiple view points and I think that’s what really makes you feel like it is more a movie then a story. This book played through my mind and I almost felt like I was there watching on the sidelines. This isn’t an easy book, there is heart break, there is happiness and I can promise you want and need every second. Barbara wrote this story with so much emotion, it’s like she made sure her readers would do more than connect. She wanted you to feel the words.

“To you I come for comfort. You embrace me, warm me. To you I come for peace. You hold me, calm me. To you I come, always with you in my heart. In my soul, you are my life.”

There are messages in this book that I will always carry with me. This book is a giant lesson of never taking life for granted. Do what makes you happy and love with your whole heart. Love, this book is love and I want everyone to experience it.

“Yesterday you were mine. We shared a love that would outlast time. You loved me. Your shared your heart, our love was meant to be. Your shared your life, your love with me.”

So that’s it I want to thank Barbara, I want to hug Barbara and I can’t wait to continue this story in the books to come.

**Megan’s review of Must Love Otters by Eliza Gordon**

Must Love Otters
by Eliza Gordon

*5 Stars*

I’m riding on a laughing and happy high after reading Must Love Otters.

This is definitely one of those books that you look at the title and go um..? ok? Sure I’ll give it a go!!!! This is also one of those reads that you give a try and at the end you kick yourself for judging it first before reading the first word or paragraph.

Speaking of the first- The first few words pulled me in INSTANTLY. I didn’t need a few chapters to get sucked in, I have no complaints that it was a little slow. It was brilliant comedy and brilliant writing that kept me completely entertained and only stopping because I had to go to work which put a wrench into my reading time.

Hollie- loved this chick from the very first word. She is one spitfire hilarious girl even with her panty tarantula!! Yeah, you read me right!!! Pantry Tarantula!!!!

“I slide into the bathroom to shave so he doesn’t complain about my prickly legs again (if he doesn’t like the legs, he certainly won’t like my panty tarantula).”

And there I go chuckling again!!!!

Hollie seems to keep getting run over by people and she can’t say no. During the course of her short journey which is full of twist and turns but not of the angst driven we are used to. These twist and turns are the crazy mishaps that happen to Hollie. Some are pure embarrassing to her but as a reader is pure enjoyment in a wonderful amusing way.

Hollie is dating a dork of a guy who has more love for his two yorkies then his two legged girlfriend. Keith is constant stethoscope wearing ambulance driver of a boyfriend and I wanted her to ditch him the instant I met him. But if she would have I wouldn’t have experienced a very comical night with them.

He tries to be a little romantic but this guy has zero romance in him if he thinks the opposite of a human sundae was a good idea. I won’t go into detail what I mean because I will not spoil it for you but I was dying laughing.

“Here. Just try this.”
“Here comes the airplane.”
Instead of opening my mouth, I grab a handful of his culinary masterpiece and smear it all over his face. Ahhh, that feels better.

This event with a few other little tidbits with the buffoon boyfriend lead her to call in sick to work and use a gift from her father for an away weekend that steer her to Concierge Ryan (aka pilot Ryan- aka knight in rescuing armor- aka my new book boyfriend).

Hollie and Ryan have a little connection that I see from the start but they don’t fall into each other instantly. Another thing I love about this book. Hollie meets another baboon on the trip but after a few of her comical mishaps another bonehead bits the dust, Concierge Ryan (also ex hockey player) is still there and doesn’t shy away from Hollie and her hysterical accidents and is always there to rescue the lovely otter loving Hollie even if she needs something bigger than a hand towel. In return she’s there for him in the same way. And overpowering her fears because she has to.

As I drew near the ending I became a little antsy. I needed to get there so I knew how it would end but just like anything it’s the journey. This journey had me crying laughing but the journey and destination was radiant. Hollie’s short journey although included a few critters, big and small, scary and cute….ha well I say critters but it can mean a few humans too!!!!!

“Hollie Porter, as your concierge, I’ll do everything I can to make it unforgettable.”

This story is just what we need! A good laugh, a heartfelt charming story and I can’t wait for Eliza Gordon to give us more. Where’s the signup sheet because I’ll sign first!!!!!

*4 Stars*

“Each time, she looks at me and smiles, and I know I don’t care when or how, but someday, someway, Sarah Miller and I are going to be together.”

You never know what you’re going to get when the same story is being told from a different point of view but Carey Heywood made this work! We got more of Will and Sarah’s backstory plus we got to read more of their future together which had me cheesing the whole time. Did I mention we even got a few more sexy time scenes?!!  😉

“There’s this girl. She’s in my English class. She sits in the desk next to mine. I see her every day, but I’ve never really noticed her.”

HER starts off from when Will first noticed Sarah in class. After that the pair became inseparable. Will was pretty much pining away for Sarah the whole time she was for him.  It was cute to see how nervous he was about her returning his feelings when the answer was always staring him right in the face.

“What’s the point of liking her as more than a friend if she doesn’t like me that way back?”

Of course I wished Will would’ve just manned up and told her how he felt. It would’ve made things a lot easier. But because he didn’t, we also got to see just what the heck he was thinking going out with Jessica!! Also, reading how jealous he was during Sarah and Kyle’s first date was hysterical.

“Kyle can play in traffic if he thinks he’s getting any.”

Once she leaves, we were then filled in on his life while she was gone. Even though life went on for him, he could never forget her.

“I wonder if our separation feels like someone experiencing phantom pain from a lost limb.”

Once they saw each other on the plane he knew even more so he needed to be with her again. I truly loved how committed he was to pursuing her even after all those years. Sarah had a hell of a hold on him just like he did her.

“You know you’re my favorite person ever.”

“I know.”

It just goes to show that if you truly love someone, love will find a way!!

“I have loved you for so long I don’t know what it feels like to not be in love with you.”

So what do I think of HER in Will’s POV?

“That sounds perfect.”

 It sure does!!
