Perfectly Broken by Prescott Lane Virtual Book Tour & Giveaway!

Contemporary Romance
Date Published: March 2014

Even after years of trauma therapy, Peyton still believes she’s broken.  She has little desire to date or show off her natural beauty, content simply to hang out with her best friends and run her pie shop in New Orleans.  But her world turns upside-down when a handsome architect and self-confessed player shows up in her shop and thinks she’s perfect, much more than the usual hook-up.  While Peyton does her best to resist his charms, believing she could never be enough for him, she can’t deny the obvious heat between them.  With Reed determined to have her, Peyton must decide whether to continue to hide behind her apron and baggy clothes or take a chance and share her scars with Reed, a man with a playboy reputation and scars of his own — a dark past he can’t possibly share with Peyton, not after learning the horrors she’s endured.  But if they can find a way to trust each other, and themselves, they just might be able to heal, to save each other, to live perfectly broken together.

“Sometimes it’s better to push people away, so you don’t hurt them,” Peyton said, “and they don’t hurt you.”

Peyton shook her head.  “I’m never going to be whole again.”

“That’s bullshit, too.  I won’t have talk like that, Miss Peyton.  I just won’t have it.”  Dr. Lorraine cocked her head to the side.  “It’s time for a change in direction — a serious change of direction.  This is what we are going to do.  You made a lot of progress with Reed – lots of good oral and other stuff.  But now you’ve cut him off, and I see you backsliding.  I don’t like to see it.  I won’t allow it.”  She stroked her chin then cracked her knuckles in preparation for some great declaration.  “I’m prescribing a little retail therapy.”

“What?” Peyton cried.

“Yes, that’s what I’m prescribing.  You get that friend of yours, Quinn, and hit the shops – Canal Place, Magazine Street, St. Charles Avenue, wherever,” Dr. Lorraine ordered, her whole body bouncing.  “I don’t want to see you in those sad, baggy ass clothes anymore.  Just looking at them, they mess with my head, and they screw up my whole day.  You ever think about how they make me feel?”

“No,” Peyton said with a laugh.

“Makes me sad.  I hate them.  So I want new shoes, clothes, athletic wear, undergarments!  Everything new.  Got it?”

“How is this therapy?”

“Honey, you’re hiding again.  You’ve flipped your sex switch back to off, and I’m not about to let it hibernate in some frozen tundra again for years.  We’ve worked too damn hard.  You need to get in touch with your sexuality without a man helping you do it.  You have to do it.  And clothes are the perfect place to start.”

Peyton shrugged.  “I don’t feel like it.”

“You don’t feel like it?  Tough shit!  I didn’t feel like getting my pap smear last week, but I did.”

Peyton smiled.  “It just seems like a waste of time and money.”

“Well, if you don’t want to do it through clothes, I can prescribe something else.  Maybe a pole dancing class?”

“I don’t think so.”

“Or daily masturbation?”

Peyton rolled her eyes.  “Fine, I’ll get the clothes.”

“Good,” Dr. Lorraine said, writing in Peyton’s chart, as if filling out a prescription to take to the drugstore.  “Among other things, I want you to get some power panties.”

“Power panties?”  Has she been talking to Bret?

“Sexy underwear,” Dr. Lorraine said, still writing.  “They can make a woman feel very powerful.”  She put down her pen and looked at Peyton.  “When a man wants to be taken seriously, he usually wears a red tie.  Ever notice that in presidential debates?  Lots of red ties.  Red is the color of power.”  Dr. Lorraine waved her hand and snapped her fingers.  “So get yourself some red panties, girl!  Take back your power!  Do it for yourself!”  She handed Peyton her prescription.

“I didn’t realize my power was in my underwear.”

Josie's review

4 stars

This book is about Peyton Mayfield, and how while at a college party she suffered a traumatic event.   Years later she is still trying to recuperate from it and is living in New Orleans working in her grandmother’s bakery.  Peyton believes what happened all those years ago is still her fault. So she now dresses very unprovocatively (in baggy clothing) and focuses on the business.

Reed Langston is a very wealthy handsome business man, and his family cast a dark shadow over him years ago. He does not do relationships…he just has sex.

Reed and Peyton’s lives cross paths when Peyton’s best friend Quinn’s boyfriend brings Reed to the shop.  One look at Peyton and Reed was a goner. He did not know what it was about Peyton but he wanted her and wanted to get to know her better.  Peyton does not trust men in general. Yes she felt something for Reed but one look on Google told her he could not be trusted.  Reed was on full out chase mode when he came to Peyton, he would not take no for an answer.

Their relationship is a slow build, which I happened to find refreshing.  They started to talk as friends, and the banter between the two was really fun to read.  They were both being as honest as they could be.   Reed just knew that he had to get her to see that there was more to him than she thinks.  He was funny would show up at her shop every day and help out if theres were busy or meet her to run in the park.

“Do you think about sex like every ten seconds?”

“No, like every hour or so.  But around you it might be every ten seconds.  So like about 50 times since we’ve been talking here.”

“Do you honestly think I’m going to have sex with you.”

“Yes, I guarantee it.”

Quinn, Peyton’s best friend, is fiercely protective of her.  She does not trust Reed’s intentions and she knows his past of being a Man-Whore.  All women need a Quinn in their lives.  She is always there for Peyton and is supportive of all Peyton does.

“Hold on a minute.”

“I’ve heard all the warning and bulls*it from Bret.  I don’t need to hear them from you, Quinn.”

“Good.  So you know that if you hurt my friend, your d*ck is coming right off.”

This relationship is good for Peyton. Reed brings out a side of Peyton that she lost all those years ago.  He is patient and willing to take things slow with Peyton. And he has no problem telling Peyton, that she is the only woman he wants.

“I know I don’t have any right to ask this, but I don’t want you dating anyone else.  I don’t want to share you.  I have no interest in any other woman but you.  I promise.”

“You don’t like to share?  I don’t like to share, either.”

These groups of friends are so funny. I loved them interacting as group.  The stuff that comes out of their mouths is hysterical.

“Well, you’ve got the thong.  This girl is feeling sexy.  She’s a guarantee lay and probably a good one.  I know when you wear a thong, I’m getting lucky.”

“Or I just hate panty lines.”

“No, that would be the G-String, which is a dirty naughty girl.”

“What does a pearl thong mean?”

“Can I find out soon?”

Through their relationship, Peyton gets the strength to tell Reed about that tragic event in his life.  She was so afraid of how he might react and think of her.  She was not prepared for his true feelings to come out. He was supportive, caring and loving.

“I’m never going to me whole again.  He broke me that night.  And I’m scared I’ll never be enough for you!”

“It hurts me to hear you talk like that.  You’re enough for me.  You’re everything to me.  You’re all I need.”

“I love you Peyton.  I’ve been trying to find a way to tell you for the days.”

“I love you too.”

We have a slurry troll mole in this book. Heather the beotches of all beotches.  Heather and Reed’s family have been friends for years and WAIT FOR IT…..f**k buddies.  Heather does not like that fact that Reed has turned over a new leaf for Peyton and cast her aside.  She decides, she is going to take matters into her own hands.

“I may now have his attention at the moment, but that’s only temporary.”

“I have his full divided attention, I assure you.”

“He always comes back to my bed.”

Reed is keeping a secret from Peyton, but with Heather’s help the truth comes out. Everything Reed and Beeca worked on comes crumbling down.

“Baby, are you ok?”

“You should have told me.”

“You make it sound like I had some obligation to tell you.  I’m not sure I’m required to tell you all the horrible, embarrassing bad things about my family.”

“You didn’t tell me.  I can’t trust you.  I never could.”

“Baby, please let me explain.”

“I’m so stupid, I fold you everything.”

Will Reed be able to make Peyton see he is truly sorry?  Can Reed show Peyton that he can be trusted?  Will Peyton learn to trust her heart and trust in the man that helped her find herself again?  Please click this book. You will not be disappointed. I was happy with the outcome.

Tethered Excerpt:

“I whirl around and rush towards the exit. It’s January, in Chicago no less, but I feel hot and my palms are sweaty. It feels very stuffy in here and I am having difficulty breathing. I promise myself I won’t turn around and look. There is no reason to look. I won’t look.

I’m only a few feet from the door. I turn my head and look.

It is as if there is a magnet that draws my eyes to his exact location every time I say I will not look. If I have looked in the past and he was not in my immediate eye sight, I may have turned away and been okay, but that never happens. My eyes always find him right away.

He looks stunning in his tuxedo. His deep blue bowtie hangs to one side and his shirt is unbuttoned a few buttons, revealing the beginning contours of what I know to be a well-defined chest. His dark hair is a little on the long side. Hair falls across his forehead. It’s sexy. His wife hates it. She must not like running her fingers through it. His hands are in his pockets as he speaks. He looks casual and relaxed.

I look away and escape the crushing pressure of the room.

I dig into the little purse strapped to my wrist and get my ticket for my coat. I thrust the piece of paper at the guy behind the counter and he retrieves my coat a few seconds later. I walk out of the building and away from the few people outside who also dared the cold. I follow a walkway until I find myself on the other side of the building, facing what is probably a very gorgeous garden in the warmer months. It was still pretty, even under the ice and snow.

I look around and am relieved to find myself alone. The sun is setting. The lampposts are flickering to life. It is cold as cold can be out here, but I needed to get out of there. Continue reading

Josie's review

5 stars

This book was amazing! After I read the synopsis, I said wow this book looks like it’s going to be an emotional and angst packed read.  The author delivered just that and I was captivated from the first page.  I will warn you that you will cry, scream and feel all the injustice that Rebecca went through from the people who were supposed to love her (get some Kleenex).

This review is hard to write because it has very intense subject matters and I really do not want to spoil it for people who have not read it.

When Becca was young her mother remarried and Becca instantly had a stepfather and a sister. The problem was her mother turned away from Becca and her stepsister Lisa was an evil bi*tch.   Becca was blamed for an event that happened as a teenager and everyone turned their back on her.  This book goes from the present in the past, so as a reader we get to see what happened those fateful days and it is heart wrenching.  This read takes place years later and the only person there for her unconditionally is Dan.

Becca’s mother is sick and because Becca is the most selfless person, instead of holding a grudge she decides to be there for her mother. Although it’s not really for her mother but for herself.  The welcome she gets in awful. Even while dying this woman did not show her child any love.  Donna’s husband, Greg, is just as cruel as her mother is to her (SLAP A B**TCH)

“This is how the story went, Rebecca.  You were jealous of my daughter.  She was beautiful.  You envied her.  Let me tell you one thing, you whore.  I’ll make you apologize to her and to me.”

“What truth?  That she was an unfit mother?  That she abandoned me from day one, and never gave me a second glance?  Your theory is wrong.  All wrong.”

“Here is the truth, mom.  I never did anything wrong for you to hate me.  Lisa wasn’t your daughter.  You we’re supposed to protect me, not her.  And after all that, I still love you.”

Dan is supportive, patient, caring and truly the epitome for loyal. All this for a young woman who having that kind of loyalty is something she never had.  He is total alpha male when it comes to Rebecca. Anyone messing with her will deal with him and him alone, including Greg, Donna and anyone who hurts her again.  You are going swoon for this man (I SWER TO GOD I NEED A DAN).  Dan will leave anything he doing to be there for Rebecca, including another country or in the middle of meeting.

“I’m home, baby.  You’re not alone.  Go to sleep and rest, crazy persistent little thing.”

“My princess, I’m sorry for leaving you.  I missed you more than you can imagine.  I’m going to outside with our friends for a while, but I’ll come back to you soon.”

“You touch one hair, or any other part of her body, and one will know where in the universe I buried you.  Got it?”

No one believed Rebecca about what happened all those years ago, except for Dan.  Slowly as the story develops, the ugly truth comes out and the people that turned their back on Rebecca start to see they made a huge mistake (I mean Tyler, stepbrother).

“I’m sorry.  You called after the first time Lisa threatened you. I failed you both. Lisa needed an adult to put her in rehab.  She was so young, and I didn’t do anything to help when I was old enough to take charge.  Then there’s you bravely asking for help, and in exchange you received nothing.”

“I don’t see the point of revisiting the past.”

Let me in, Becca.  Right or wrong, years ago we became family.  I should’ve have been trying since then, but getting close to you meant dealing with our parents and my sister.  Back then I didn’t see the point or care for family.”

During this time, some things are happening to Becca, as she is trying to let go of the past. Dan confesses his love to Becca and she has a hard time understanding how he could love someone as damaged as she is.  As I mentioned before, Dan is total alpha male and dominates their relationship. He knows Becca loves him too, so he does what he has always done, takes control.

“No I’m lying, baby.  It has everything to so with the way I feel about you.   I love you, Becca.  And I don’t mean the brotherly love you swear I have you.  No, I have romantic feelings for you.  There’s only one thing I’ve ever been a hundred percent sure about Becca.  I’m in love with you.”

“Why?  You can have anyone, beautiful women with.”

“I love who and what you are.”

“I love you Danny.”

So this is where I get to the end of my review.  During the entire book we see Becca become stronger as she learns to deal with her past.  The issue is she has always had Dan around and Dan has always been around.  And Becca needs to make sure that they are together for the right reasons and not the need they both have.  So guess what? It ends with a hell of an ending.  Do not worry I saw that book 2, Next to You is in the works, put that baby on your TBR list, because I sure as heck did.

Lena Nicole Full Cover Jacket

I put my hand on the nape of her neck and pull her gently toward me. “Come here, Addison,” I whisper to her. Her eyes lock in on my lips and the air shifts between us. It’s so full of want and need that I can’t stand it anymore. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to touch her intimately that I don’t know how I’ve lasted this long.

I seal her lips with mine and am met with a soft moan from Addison. After a moment of gentle kissing, I deepen it and part her lips with my tongue. She grabs me by the shirt, leans back, and pulls me on top of her. I run my hand up the outside of her thigh as I devour her lips. I had taken off my jacket and tie when we walked in the door, and now she’s working on the buttons of my shirt. Her hands are shaking and fumbling as she struggles to get them undone. I’m considering pulling back and putting a stop to this since she seems so nervous, but when I pull back to look into her eyes I see that it’s not nerves making her shake, it’s pure lust and need. I sit up and undo the rest of the buttons and slide my shirt off. “Stop teasing me, Colin. I need you.”

“I’m still stuck with the fact that I’m in love with two completely different men.  Inevitably, I’m going to have to break the heart of one and have to live with that guilt for the rest of my life.”

I was so excited when I finally got my hands on this book since Book 1 left me in a state of OMG IT HAPPENED!!!  I was anxious to see how and if Lena Nicole could pull it off and I am pleased to say that they did that and more.  I will warn this book had me screaming, shaking my head, shaking my kindle and wanting to smack Addison something hard!!  I GOT IT!  I understood where it was going, did I agree with the little triangle at times NO but I understood it. GOD DAMN IT I LOVED TWO MEN RIGHT ALONG WITH ADDISON!!!  Can a woman have two husbands?

“I love them both and I’m just so torn up; I don’t want to make the wrong decision.”

I loved that in this book we got all three POV’s and I can’t imagine the story working any other way.   Having the three POV’s really puts you in all their minds, I was completely able to capture each of their feelings and maybe that is what made me so frustrated I knew where Addison belonged.  I am not going to lie, you absolutely will know where it’s heading and where her heart is.  But with that being said I still enjoyed reading it and watching it play out.  There are things I wish didn’t happen but I am going to let you read it and see for yourself.

“Choose a happy ending that is right for you, not what everyone else thinks is right.”

And there’s the thing I can’t say too much because you need to read it to find out who Addison picks, I can tell you be prepared to be frustrated,  in love and then when it all comes together you will want someone’s story but who’s will it be?

She thought she was stepping into fame:

Meeting Drezden Halifax should have been a dream. But dreams are supposed to be sweet, fragile things that whisk you away. Not monsters crafted from hard fingers, gritty vocal cords and a voice so powerful it could tear my guts right out.

Maybe my heart, too.

Becoming the guitarist for Four and a Half Headstones was everything I needed.

Too bad the band’s lead singer is doing his best to ruin everything I am.

He thought she would solve his troubles:

Lola Cooper, god damn Lola Cooper. She was the perfect guitarist, fingers that could summon a sweet song or punch a chord. She’s supposed to save my band, make us come out of this tour in one piece…

But I just want to tear HER to pieces.

No one should make me feel this way. One look at her, one smell, and I knew I’d have to have her. She does things to me that scare the shit out of me. Make me want to slam her on a wall and listen to her cries: eager or fearful, it doesn’t matter.

I’m a monster…

Before you even start let me warn this is a quick, leave you wanting more Novella.   I read this in less than 2.5 hours and when I finished I found myself looking at my kindle and saying WHAT, WHERE SERIOUSLY I WAS JUST GETTING INTO IT?!?!  OMG LOAD UP BOOK 2 RIGHT NOW WHAT IN THE HELL.  I am thrilled that I can say Book 2 is also now available so atleast there is no waiting for that.    I am not going to get too much into the book because really the book its self is only about 100 something pages.

Hard Body Rock introduces us to the Headstones and Lola their new guitarist.  Drezden Halifax is the lead singer, he is all alpha.  Let’s just say he is everything you want in a lead singer for a rock band.  We then watch as Lola brings out another side in him, the softer side, the protector.   Lola like a lot of female characters has her own issues going on.  The one thing I can tell you, prepare for some sexual tension but don’t count on any action.  YES HOPEFULLY SOMETHING HEATS UP IN BOOK 2.

And that’s about it once I found myself getting into it, it was over and I was sitting there saying WHY!!!!!!  But on that note I will say the book was enjoyable but I have to say on a giant teaser level.  So for that I have to go with 3 stars and a THANK GOD BOOK 2 IS OUT!!!

“Never love anyone who treats you like you’re ordinary.”
~Oscar Wilde

Had I really nodded off, drool dripping out of the side of my mouth? Kill me, yes, I do. I quickly looked around to see if anyone noticed. Mr. Chapman, my Calculus teacher, looked like he was dozing off himself. His hand propped his head up. He’d allowed us the last half of class to study for our next exam. I could hear Nicole snickering while she kicked the back of my chair. I turned and glanced at her over my shoulder, frowning. Looking at the clock, I was relieved to see we only had fifteen minutes to go.
Nicole kept tapping at the back of my seat and she whispered, loudly. “Late night?” She giggled. “How was the Skype sex?”
Without turning around, I waved my hand at her, hoping she’d shut up. My eyes darted in every direction, hoping no one heard her. Geez. What the hell? Nicole Hamilton and I had been best friends since practically Kindergarten, and now we were finally seniors. I would be eighteen in six weeks and I had big plans. BIG plans.
I’d kept these secrets from everyone in my life, except Nadine. She was now attending Cal State Long Beach. Nadine Lewis was my rock, my confidant in every single way, much more so than Nicole. Nicole and I had never fully recovered our friendship to the level prior to my Jake meltdown. It was totally catastrophic, like movie shit, like put-me-in-the-loony-bin crazy, for real. People would pay to watch the shit that went down with Jake and I.
It was hard for me to believe Nicole’s sincerity, since she’d chosen sides (in a number of ways), and had decided not to hang out with me while I was chilling with my other dear (and gay) friend Marshall. Nicole had thought it would damage her rep if she hung out with him, since he was different. Even after apologies and tears, for two years we were distantly cordial to each other.
The bell rang, shaking me from my memories. I bolted out of my seat, shoving past everyone. I was desperate to
get home before my mother. I’d absentmindedly left the envelope that held the passport application documents, laying on the coffee table, along with the scribbled notes of where Jake was staying in London. I wasn’t ready for her or my dad to know about Jake being back in my life, and it would be immediately obvious what I was planning if she got a hold of that envelope.
“Aly! Wait up,” Nicole hollered. “Dude, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you.”
I smiled. Nothing could upset me these days. “No worries. I just have to get home. I left something out in plain view I don’t want my mom seeing, yet.”
“Dish! What?” Nicole shuffled alongside me and nudged my shoulder.
I slung my backpack over to the other side. “That passport application I told you about.”
“Why would you care if she saw that? She has no idea what you’ve been up to. Just tell her you’re thinking ahead or something. Like we’re planning a graduation trip to Mexico.”
“She wouldn’t care, really, but I stupidly wrote Jake’s address in London, and like an idiot, scribbled little hearts and his name over and over again all over the envelope.”
Nicole laughed. “Aww, how cute.” She breathed in heavily, shaking her head. “I still can’t believe you guys are getting back together. I thought he had a girlfriend, that girl in all those pictures with him. What’s her name? Sophia something.”
My heart lurched. I hated hearing her name. We strode through the parking lot to my car. “For the record, I don’t know if we’re getting back together. I have so many mixed emotions. Like, are we really right for each other? But I want to see him. I want to see how I feel when I’m with him. We’ve been talking for so long and so much has built up. You know, we kinda owe it to each other. And as far as this girlfriend, he says she’s more like a companion, and he told her that he couldn’t make any serious commitments.” I shrugged, trying to convince myself. “Who knows if he’s telling me the truth, but he’s never lied to me before.”
Nicole tapped the window for me to unlock the passenger door. I slid into the driver’s seat. She huffed as she slammed the door shut. “Didn’t he lie to you about seeing that Eva chick, who he went on tour with?”
“No, he didn’t lie,” I sneered. “He just failed to mention it. That was a long time ago. I was a baby back then. Now I understand why he didn’t tell me.”
“You’re so lucky,” she murmured under her breath, almost like the thought slipped out by accident.
“What?” Here we go. These were the types of comments that made me hold back confiding in her. Nicole always thought of things as a competition. I don’t think she’d ever realize how lucky and fortunate she was.
“You’re going out with the hottest musician-rock star…in like…ages. I just can’t believe it’s Jake, of all freaking people. This is like the stuff you watch on E! True Hollywood Story.” She laughed. “And that you two are getting back together.”
“Dude, we’re not getting back together.”
“Uh, dude, yes you are. I can feel it in my bones.”
Pulling up to my house, thankful that my mom wasn’t home from her volunteer job yet. I rushed through the door into the family room, and could see the manila envelope with the blazing red heart doodles practically beating. Picking it up, I looked over my shoulder like my mother would be standing there or something. On my eighteenth birthday, I would be first in line at the Federal Building on Wilshire Boulevard to turn in my passport application. My heart raced as I thought of Jake and how surprised he’d be when I told him he was what I wanted for my birthday.
I sank down into the sofa thinking of what it would be like to touch his skin again and to feel his lips on mine. If it weren’t for our several nights a week Skype sessions, I wouldn’t believe it was real. He still wanted me after all these years. It bothered me that I couldn’t talk freely with Nicole about my feelings for Jake. Instead, I chose to stay on the surface with information. Maybe it was because if I admitted to too many people how I truly felt about Jake, they’d think I was losing my mind again.
I looked up at the clock and it was three-thirty. I needed to talk to Nadine. I had to figure out how to tell my parents that I was going to see Jake. They had no idea that we’d been carrying on, since they’d thought it ended. Guilt rushed through my veins as I thought of how disappointed my dad would be. Ugh. Would he really be? I mean it’s not like Jake was some loser; he actually did make something of himself with his music and has stayed drug free. My dad should really be proud of Jake.

I sent a text to Nadine, asking her to come over as soon as possible.
“So you’re gonna do it? For reals?” Nadine chomped hard on her gum like her life depended on it. She dropped her keys and purse on the floor next to the coffee table. “I’m thirsty. You’re giving me cotton mouth, making me all nervous for you.”
My hands tingled thinking about it. “Yeah. I need to plant the seed, you know.” I sighed, covering my eyes. I could feel the blood pumping behind them. “How do you think I should do it? How do I go about telling them that Jake and I have been talking?”
“Aly, you can’t really sugar-coat it. Just tell ’em how it is. You’re practically an adult. You’re going away to college soon. Speaking of, have you decided where? How many colleges did you apply to?”
“Twenty, but two have already offered me a full ride. I have to make a choice, soon.”
“Wow.” She said shaking her head. “You’re so fucking lucky.”
Maybe I really was. I smiled at Nadine. The way she said it, she was really happy for me, unlike Nicole’s edgy tone. “I worked hard at it, you know.”
“I know you did.” She said and went into the kitchen and grabbed a drink from the fridge. She cracked the top of the Gatorade bottle and looked around. “Where’s your sister?”
“She’s working at HBO now. She got her marketing dream job and decided to take the last year of college classes at night. I have to say I didn’t think she could do it, but she’s doing it.”
Nadine nodded her head and concern dashed onto her face. “I don’t know what I wanna do with my life.”
I cracked a week smile. “It’s ok. I still don’t know what I wanna do either. I’m going to play volleyball and hope to figure it out along the way. I’m going to major in Communications. My dad was hoping I’d be a lawyer like him, ain’t happening.”
She opened the cupboard and grabbed a bag of chips. “Can I open these? I’m feelin’ snacky.”
“Help yourself.” I waved her off, my mind elsewhere and reached for my phone. It was five o’clock and the middle of the night in London. Jake would usually hit me up right around this time, with one simple text – ‘How’s my beautiful Alycat?’  I was anxious for his message. It was like a daily drug dose, my fix. I tingled all over thinking about him. I swallowed. “I’m thinking about moving to New York and going to NYU.”
Nadine eyes sprung wide open as she lifted the lid of the trashcan, spitting her gum into it. “Ummmm. NYU is not on the volleyball school list. Do they even have a team? This is totally all about Jake.” She smiled mischievously at me, opening the bag of chips.
I sighed. “Why can’t I have it all? Why can’t I have Jake and volleyball and get my degree?”

“There’s no beach volleyball in New York City, Aly. Do you hear yourself?” She stuffed a few potato chips into her mouth. “I’m all for love and shit like that. Jake with his hot ass and lifestyle, fucking pick me! You’d be living the dream, that’s for sure, but be real, Aly.” She slumped into the chair across from me, filling her mouth with more chips. I watched her chew and talk with her mouth full. “You have a real chance at playing beach volleyball and traveling around the world. Like gold medal shit, you’re that good. You need to be where you can train.”

I narrowed my eyes at her and my stomach flipped. She was right, but I didn’t want to hear it. I wanted her to back me up. “Look at you being all mom-ish. You don’t think it’s a good idea? Really? I can play indoor. I kinda don’t care if the team is division 3 if Jake means what he’s saying. I can get the degree that I want.”
She sighed loudly and put her feet up on the coffee table. “It sounds perfect. I mean, I guess you can play anywhere, but what’s your coach gonna say? You’ve been playing and winning these beach tournaments, Aly. Pepperdine and USC are offering you something that people would sell their souls for.”
“I applied to NYU, and I’ve been talking to the girls volleyball coach there.” I blurted out and paused when Nadine’s voice cracked with a hack. “You’re the only one who knows.”
Nadine coughed more and sat up, grabbing her Gatorade. She took a huge swig and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. “Wow. Does Jake know?”
“It was his idea.” My hands trembled with nerves from hearing myself admit to what had been churning below the surface.
My parents were going to shit a ton of bricks.
I sat in front of my laptop with my wet hair wrapped in a towel. Jake finally sent me a text a few hours later than he normally did. He’d been in rehearsal most of the day with the band, for an upcoming tour through Spain and France. We had a Skype chat set up. It was just about seven in the morning for him. I pulled the towel from my hair and checked my image on computer screen. My heart raced from the excitement streaming through me. I couldn’t wait to talk to him. You’d think after all these years and all that we’d been through that I wouldn’t be reacting this way. Every time I heard his voice or thought about what it would be like to touch him again, my insides fluttered.
I leaned back into my pillows and pulled my comforter over me. It was cold, the first of December, and Christmas was just around the corner. My big February birthday was just on the horizon. Jake kept asking me what I wanted for my birthday. He was beyond thoughtful. I didn’t want anything from him. Last year he’d surprised me with a Hermés watch. I totally had to lie to my parents, saying it was a knockoff I’d gotten in Venice Beach. I took in a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. I only wanted him, and tonight I was going to tell him just that. I would inform him of my plans to visit him in London during our Ski Week winter break. My hands became damp just thinking about it, wondering how he would react.
The familiar ping of Skype rang out, sending my heart into my throat. I took one last look at my reflection in my closet mirror and answered the call.
“Hey Alycat.” Jake’s voice streamed through my computer. His eyes sparkled so blue, I was desperate to touch his unshaven face. He looked beyond hot, sitting there shirtless. I wanted to kiss every inch of him.
“Hey you.” I giggled. “You better go put a shirt on. You’re killing me.”
“Mmm. I think you need to take yours off.”
“How was practice?” I giggled, brushing off his pervy come-on.
“Long and sweaty.” He smirked. He was trying to egg me on, and normally I would have bitten, but I was so anxious to share my surprise.
I clasped my hands under my chin. Here it goes. “So I have something to tell you. I know what I want for my birthday.”
“Ok, let’s hear it…and don’t tell me ‘nothing’, and leave me to my own devices like you did last year.”
“Shush.” I teased, placing my index finger over my lips. “I want you for my birthday.”
A sly, sexy grin spread across his face. “You already have me, Alycat.”
I squirmed, shifting my legs into a new position. “Not physically, I don’t.” My heart thrashed in my chest, forcing the words to come out. “I want to feel your body next to mine and I don’t want to wait until summer. I’m planning on visiting you about a week after my birthday.” Holy shit, I said it! I’m not sure if it was surprise on his face or what.
Jake leaned in closer to his screen. “Do you know how badly I want to kiss you? Do you know how you make me wanna do bad things to you, bad good things?”
I felt the heat rise through my body and an ache penetrated every inch of me. It literally made me wet hearing him say those things to me. “You take my breath away,” I whispered, smiling at the screen. I reached out to touch the image of his face that smiled back at me. I wanted to melt into the screen. “Soooo, to continue,” I said quietly, trying to keep my composure, “I bought a plane ticket already. I haven’t told anyone of my plans, other than Nadine, and I’m gonna spring this on my parents as soon as I grow some balls.”
He gave me a hearty laugh. “I prefer you without balls, but ok.” He winked at me and shook his head. “Aly I want nothing more than to have you with me, but I don’t know about this. Your parents already hate me…”
“They don’t hate you,” I interrupted. At least my mom doesn’t.
“I know they don’t think too highly of me.”
“They’re actually proud of you, Jake.” My mom was, but my dad had no idea what Jake was up to. Jake’s eyes softened and his mouth clamped shut. “I bring you up every now and then, you know. They’re very aware of all your accomplishments.”
He sighed, running his hands through his hair. His image became pixelated to match his mood. “I’d love to be a fly on the wall when you tell them what your plans are.”
I laughed nervously. “I know, right?”
“So when do you think you’ll do it?”
“I don’t know, but the longer I stare at you, the braver I get. Sooooo?” I hummed and propped my chin in my hand. I leaned in closer to the computer. My question lingered, and he just stared back at me, dreamy and perfect.
“So, the so is I want to touch you so bad.”
            “Ditto,” I purred.
“I want to kiss you all over.”
His words made the butterflies swarm. “Mhmm. What else?”
            “I wanna make you…”
“Alyssa?” I heard my mom’s voice squeeze through my door, and it nearly launched me to the ceiling. My heart thundered like I’d been shocked by a defibrillator and little white dots floated in my vision. My immediate reaction was to slam my laptop lid shut. Oh my god! Did she hear us? Fuck. The doorknob rattled. “Are you alone?”
I was beyond agitated. What was she still doing up? It was midnight. “Yes, Mom!” I hopped off the bed and grabbed the doorknob, unlocking it. I stalked away getting back in my bed, pulling the laptop back on my lap.
“What’s up?”
She stalled, blinking twice. “Are you okay?”
“Yes, Mom,” I growled. “I was watching YouTube. What is it? Shouldn’t you be sleeping?”
She gave me a stern look to quit it with my attitude.
“Mom, I’m sorry. I was just starting to nod off and you scared me. You’re usually asleep by now.”
“I forgot to tell you that the doctor called and rescheduled your physical therapy appointment to five-thirty tomorrow. I’m leaving early in the morning and didn’t want to forget.”
I sighed, leaning back into my pillows. “Ok. Thanks.” She eyeballed me a little longer, like she was about to call me out or something. Then she shut the door without another word. I opened my laptop and began to write Jake an email. I was too fearful that my mom was lingering at my door to try for another Skype session.
OMG! I am soooo sorry. My mom came knocking at my door and I freaked out. I thought she heard us, but she didn’t. Thank God. I would have died. Ugh… you have no idea how bad I want February to be here. I think about you every moment of every day. I dream about what it’ll be like to feel you again. I can’t wait to kiss you. I can’t wait to feel your body against mine.
            Love you madly, Aly.
I hit send and stared at my screen. I kept hitting the refresh button, hoping that he’d answer back right away. He finally did…fifteen minutes later.
Hey Alycat – Oh man… I needed to cool off anyway 😉 You have no idea how bad I want you. You really don’t. I don’t think words or songs or anything can truly describe my feelings for you. I have to show you, touch you…send me your flight info so I can pin it to my wall or somethin’.
            You’re my everything. J

Read Book 1 before you read this novella. You need to know what happened to the characters before you read this review.

I read the first book in this series, First Kiss (Heavy Influence #1) about 4 months ago that I stumbled upon when it was free, and I loved it.  In book 1 we meet Jake Masterson 17 year old up and coming lead singer for a rock band and Alyssa Montgomery younger girl next door.  The relationship they started brought about a lot of problems, but they loved each other, fiercely.  Anyway if you read it you know how it ends, and how we were left gutted.  Well guess what this is the novella Fever Pitch (Heavy Influence 1.5) takes place before book 2 Broken Notes comes out and it gives us a tease as to what’s to come next for couple.

Ann Marie Frohoff did it again! She had my emotions up, down, in and out like a roller coaster…I LOVED IT.  Jake and Alyssa have been communicating with one another while he is away.  Alyssa and Jake still love each other with the same intense emotion as before.  Alyssa is turning 18 and has made plans to spend her 18th birthday with Jake in London.  This is a novella so it is a quick and short read but the intensity is still as strong.

Alyssa is in a relationship with a guy named Nathan. Ok honestly I know I love Jake but let me just say that Nathan is such a catch.  Alyssa has always been honest in their relationship and before she goes to London, she comes clean and breaks it off with Nathan.  This is the mature Alyssa, it hurts her to do this but she knows it is the right thing to do.

“Nathan, I’ve been talking with Jake for some time now.  And I just need to stop this, you and I.  You don’t deserve this.”

“So you’re getting back with him?”

“I don’t know.”

“You are like this enigma, you know, ho you juggle everything.  How stoked you get about stuff and your game.  You pull people in.  That’s what attracted me to you, not to mention, you’re beautiful.  I knew what I was getting into.  I guess I was hoping that you’d moved on from him.”

Alyssa has matured a lot while they have been apart, whereas Jake I feel still has not.  Jake is a in relationship with Sophia, although he says they see other people.  He feels this intense feeling for Alyssa, that he has not felt since they’ve been apart but his dishonesty about his life and his relationship is frustrating and painful.

“Is she your girlfriend or not?”

“Aly, it’s not cut and dry, ok.  Hypothetically, yes.  I suppose she used to be my girlfriend.”

“Used to be?  Does she know I am here?”

“No, but we’re not exclusive, Aly.  We never were, and I’ve always told her that I couldn’t have that kind of relationship.”

Once Aly and Jake come together again in London, their love for each other only deepens.  We can feel the love and emotion they have each other.  Since I knew what they went through before, I expected their relationship to be even more powerful than in the past.  Jake feels these intense feelings when he is around and had Aly close by.  Aly, has waited so long to be with Jake, she needs him just as bad.

“I knew that if I allowed you to come here that I needed to make a decision.  That’s when I realized I wanted to really spend the rest of my life with you.  There was never any doubt; fear, yes, but doubt, no.”

“You sure about this?”

“I want all of you, I could cry, I want this so bad.”

“God baby you feel so good.”

I know this is a prelude to Broken Notes and I really want a HEA for the couple but as we know things for these 2 are not easy.  Aly is graduating high school and on her way to college and Jake and his band are still in heavy demand. Not to mention I find Jake still to be dishonest and immature.  I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2 when it comes out.  FYI we also get a peek into Book 2 Broken Notes, and let me just say, HOLY SMOKES, I need book 2 now.

Carson Bradley is a super hot, rich, CEO of a pharmaceutical company. The man oozes sex. He lost what he thought was the love of his life at 17 to Cancer. It broke him. So when his mother set him up with Bianca he just went with the flow. When Carson boards his plane to fly to their wedding location fate steps in and smacks him a good one.

Lillian Ly has been accepted to attend the prestigious St. Croix Medical School. Over the moon with this she leaves her mother behind and heads off. Lillian has been a saint her entire life. Nose to the books kind of girl. Not allowing men to deter her. Even when she meets Richard who is pretty hot himself on the plane (who happens to be a med student as well) she politely declines him and asks to be just friends. Soon she is settled and months have passed by. Never did she know that Fate would drop the one person who would change her life forever on the beach in front of her.

This book was very interesting. It had the typical bad boy millionaire and the virginal girl vibe. I almost said ehh no can do.. BUT the story line caught me with something different. The author did a good job at twisting a tale that kept you wondering what would happen next. Bianca is out for blood and really give Carson and Lily a run for their money. Carson is so overprotective of Lily. It was fun to watch him protect her but also it was nice to see him come out of his shell. You could really feel that it was like a kid in a candy store with him. He had blocked off his heart for so long that when fate brought them together it was like his heart instantly kicked down the walls around it. There are so many ups and downs in this book. You want to beat Bianca she is a horrible person. I felt so bad for Lily throughout this book. But Bianca isn’t done yet. As I got closer and closer to the end of the book my worst nightmare was becoming more of a possibility.. yes folks.. the dreaded Cliff Hanger!!! It wasn’t a super bad cliff but, it is there. Now to impatiently await book 2!!!

He rips my panties off. The crisp, echoing sound of torn lace makes me even hotter. “Not good enough. Promise me, Lil.” His voice is more demanding and authoritative. Am I finally seeing and hearing the real Carson? He drops down to his knees to place his head between my thighs, gently spreading them apart. Oh god, I feel his pounding tongue, taunting and coercing me to tell him what he wants to hear. He’s too good at this. I’m not a worthy opponent against his seduction.

“Uh…uh…yes, I promise,” I pant as his velvet tongue glides inside my pulsing walls, tasting the sweet result of his doing. Without any warning, I hear a soft buzzing sound and then vibrating sensation sends my entire body into an explosive volcanic eruption. “Uh…uh…Carson, oh my god!” I moan and then clench my jaw, trying to hang on to my dignity. I find myself gripping the sheets tighter and then my fingers find their way through his thick, dark hair, pulling him closer to me with my bound wrists.”

Over a long year ago, I picked up a pen and wrote the first sentence of a fantasy that I’ve imagined ever since I was a daydreaming little girl—minus the steamy parts of course. That initial sentence was the seed that grew into my flowering romance book, “Beginning with Forever.” With all my heart, I wrote, rewrote, edited, re-edited and now, I’m finally ready to share it with all of you. My one and only aspiration for this book is to have readers embrace my story and characters with their heart. If I can make someone laugh till their gut hurts, hate with vengeance, cry till their eyes dry out, fall in love all over again, drool over the hero or feel any other emotions, than I’ve succeeded my goal.

I’m the sappiest person in the world when it comes to romance. Don’t laugh! I believe in love at first sight, Prince Charming or Mr. Hot Billionaire in my book, and happy endings. In my heart, every women deserves all three, and they will when they lose themselves in my books. Your fantasy can become your reality with just the flip of a page, so come join me.

Dark Indiscretions :Monster Unleashed by Shakuita Johnson Cover Reveal

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00075]

What would you do if the one fate chose for you vanished into thin air? What would you give up? Who would you become to stay with that person?

Krista Bell finally knows what it’s like to be free. The torture she endured at the hands of her psychotic father have unleashed the monster her mother tried so hard to help her suppress. The only thing she wants to do is be the shadow in the night that everyone is afraid of.

Taser is barely holding it together. He lost Kris once to her father and now he’s losing her to the monster she is becoming. He’s also barely containing his own monster since Krista decided she didn’t need her mates anymore. Nathan is still near but he may not be enough.

Nathan is on the verge of losing not one but both of his mates. One vanished without a trace. The other is avoiding him. He has run out of patience with them both.

But when the monster that Krista has become comes to them with a proposal will they take her up on it and possibly lose themselves or will they try to talk her down and get the beast to put back on her chain?

Krista made her way down the hall and into the office she knew her mates would be. They were not going to like what she had to say but right now it was about her. She was tired of putting others before herself. Tired of pretending to be someone that she wasn’t. She paused for a moment in the doorway to look at her mates one last time. They were rung tight from her self-imposed seclusion and she knew this was only going to be the beginning of their heartache.

She took a moment to really look at her mates. They were total contrasts to each other. Where Taser was standing at only five-foot-five-inches and weighing one hundred and seventy five pounds. He had dirty blonde hair that stuck out all over the place and hazel eyes. On the other hand, Nathan stood at just less than seven feet and weighted over three hundred pounds of pure muscle. He had black hair with the most mesmerizing green eyes flecked with gold, belaying his paranormal status. They were both handsome. Any girl would be lucky to have just one of them as a mate.

Yet her she was ready to give them both up. It couldn’t be helped so no use in delaying the inevitable. Without preamble Krista spoke the words all men dread.

“We need to talk. Now.”

“Now you’re ready to talk,” Nathan said with an arched eyebrow.

“It’s about damn time,” was Taser’s reply.

Krista saw where this conversation was going to go before it started. Both her mates were upset and yet she still couldn’t bring herself to care, much. She knew what she had to do and she didn’t plan on changing her mind.

“Are you both going to be assholes or listen to what I have to say?” Krista asked.

“Fine. Speak,” Taser barked.

Speak! What was she a damn dog? Krista was fuming and she could feel the air around her zinging with her anger.

“Careful how you speak to me,” she threatened in a low voice. “I am not some common animal that you can issue commands and receive obedience in return. You will do well to remember who and what I am.”

“Let’s all calm down and take a seat. We have just been worried. Taser didn’t mean anything by it. Let’s not fight but instead have a civilized conversation,” Nathan said. He didn’t need anyone losing their cool right now. Emotions were already running high as it was.

“Before the rudeness was introduced, what I was trying to say is I will be leaving here today and never returning. I’ve given this a lot of thought and there is just no way I can continue this existence how I was. I am no longer that person. I have changed. There is no point in a discussion because nothing you say will change my mind. The both of you will also not be joining me,” Krista stated.

Was she serious with this shit? She walks in here like she owns the world and decrees that she is leaving not only the pack lands but also her mates behind. Did she think we were supposed to be okay with it? Nathan was utterly speechless. Never in all his years would he have expected this shit when he found his Nyhiya. He could feel the rage building and getting ready to burst free.

“Come again?” Taser asked. “I think I may have misheard what you just said. I could have sworn it sounded like you were abandoning your mates.”

“No need to be dramatic. It’s not like you only have one mate. Nathan will keep you company but unfortunately I have things to do. Mates would only hold me back from my destiny. I don’t need any weaknesses my enemies could exploit. Now if you both will excuse me, I have preparations to make.”

With those parting words, Krista got up and walked out of the office. She didn’t have time to waste. She had to gather the few things she had here and leave to begin her hunt. She wasn’t sure where she was starting but she was sure she was leaving here tonight and by any means necessary.

You try to understand what I’ve been through and how I can possibly go on with my life.

It’s MY TURN to earn…
