Sara’s Unyielding Lover by Joslyn Black Blog Tour

This book is an erotic romance meant for readers 18 and up NC-17

Sara was an innocent virgin who married what she thought was the love of her life. Now 10 years and 1 failed marriage later. Sara is starting fresh. Everything is new her home, car, job even the state she lives in. But having only been with one man in her life is Sara ready for a new lover? Eric seems to think so even if she doesn’t. This bad boy may have quit the streets and turned his life around that doesn’t mean he’s no longer hard or dominant. He’s going to show Sara that he is the man for her whether she’s ready or not.

“Uhmm when I texted you my apartment number I wasn’t expecting you tonight. I thought it was for our date tomorrow and it’s getting late, so can you just come back tomorrow?”

Putting his massive hand that wasn’t holding the six-pack of beer on her door he gently gave it a small push. Just enough to get her to back up so he could start stepping inside before she shut the door in his face, as he was doing this he spoke.

“Oh I know I just thought as I was driving home that maybe it was better if we get to know each other a little more tonight; to make our date tomorrow less awkward.”

It was a lame excuse but it was all he could think of on the spot. She couldn’t believe that he had just pushed his way into her apartment. He was now closing the door behind him and turning the locks. He turned around and walked right up to her as he was speaking, standing closer than what was socially acceptable. In fact he was so close she was breathing in his warm breath as he exhaled and she inhaled. Holding up the six-pack of beer in his left hand, he looked down at her face and grinned.

“Dos XX, what better way is there to get to know someone than sit, relax and talk with a cold beer?”

Sara was standing there gaping at him, she didn’t know what to do or say, what was the social norm in this situation?  And as she looked at his dazzling smile and his oh so cute dimples she found her body and her mind were at war. Her body was immediately responding to him, he hadn’t even touched her but the look he was giving her was making her body slowly heat and she was starting to feel a low pull in her tummy. And to her utter astonishment she felt herself growing damp, just from the heat coming off his standing too close body, his radiant smile and his I’m gonna eat you up gleam in his eyes. Her mind however was screaming at her “DANGER, DANGER! You need to make this man leave now! You’re not prepared for this; you’ve only dated one man for pity’s sake.”

Eric saw the war going on inside her head, there were so many emotions flittering around on her face shock, desire, lust, confusion, apprehensiveness. She still hadn’t said anything to him. He knew he shouldn’t but his body was taking over and he couldn’t stop it. He stroked her cheek once, twice then he curled his fingers around her chin tilted her face up more, leaned his head down and placed a soft chaste kiss on her lips. When his lips touched hers he felt what he could only describe as a jolt go through his body. Her lips were soft, perfect and he felt himself instantly grow hard beneath his Levis. He needed to step back slow down or he knew he would be pushing her to hard and too fast.

“I needed that, now let’s go have a beer.”

As he grasped her hand she meekly nodded her head and he began to pull her further into her apartment in search of the kitchen to keep the beer cold. Sara was having an out of body experience. She heard him speak, felt him take hold of her chin and she saw his head start to dip down to kiss her. But she was frozen in her spot she couldn’t move, she didn’t want to move and then their lips touched and she felt a sharp electrical current run straight from her lips to the tips of her breasts to the apex of her thighs.

Sara Stevens is coming out of a mad marriage, she was a virgin when she met and married Michael only to find out 10 years later that he cheated on her. She moves to California to start over with her friend Jo Ann. Starting over is hard especially when you have to start all over from scratch. Sara and Jo Ann decided to go to an auction to help furnish Sara’s apartment.

Eric Morales has had a hard life but managed to come out of life of the streets and gangs. He is a successful owner of a furniture business. He loves to buy antiques and he frequents auction. This one day, he got more than he could bargain when he sees something catches his eyes and shook his world, Sara.

This is a face paced read, instant attraction and love. I am not one for instant love in a book but it worked for this particular book. It is hard for Sara trust considering her failed marriage, Eric sees this and tries to make sure she knows that he can be trusted. Let me just say the sex in this book is so good, and the communication between the couple is refreshing. Now I will get to that part that had me SOLD, hey I am a Latina so any time I hear a “mami tu eres mio, te quiero, that’s all she wrote I because the SUMBISSIVE LATINA (YEP I KNOW SO NOT LIKE ME).

“Tue res mio, solo mio, danie mas, nadie mas, solo mio.” (YEP SCORE…GOALLLLLL!!)

Eric was such a patient man and he knew when it came to Sara, he had to handle things delicately but yet upfront in your face. Sara was always second guessing and question little things.

“I want you and not just for tonight. You want me?”

“Then let’s go to bed.”

As I had this was a fast read and the sex scenes were just so hot, erotic and intense.

“Your ex was a total a** for running around you. I’ve never felt a better sensation then being between your legs buried deep inside you. If you were mine I’d show you how special you are each night before we slept and every morning when we woke.”

“Touch me baby, I want to feel you touch me. That’s rights baby cunm for me on my co*k, yes baby cum, mmmmmm my baby.”

“Ooooooohhhhhhh Aaaaaahhhh God Eric.”

“”I want to do something.”

“What do you want baby?”

“I wanted to use my mouth on you.”

“Honestly baby the thought of your lips wrapped around my c**k has me almost ready to cum, now. Come closer baby and open your mouth.”

Sara and Eric embarked a relationship and it was going so well but there were signs, something was off and things being were indication that something was going to go wrong. Yep to perfect, because Eric was not completely honest with Sara, he was keeping a little secret. A secret in the form of slurry troll mole, named Tracey. Can Eric explain things before he loses the woman that has bought him to his knees? Can Sara forgive Eric for keeping this secret and she really truly trust him? We get those answers and we get some angst in between, who does not love some angst.

I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I love romance books of all shapes, sizes and genres, so much that I was inspired to write. I’ve always loved to write, little poems here and there. Maybe a short story or two but I was always to scared to show my writing; critics can be tough. Well I finally put my big girl panties on and self published. I think there is nothing harder in the world than to create something and put it out for others to build up or tear down. My writing is based off what I like. I would never publish a book I wouldn’t read or enjoy myself. I am a very quirky unique person, there is not enough room for me to get into all my personalities. Yes I said ties not ty, I have lived in six different states and too many cities, towns and villages to name. Partially because my mom never liked to settle and because my soon to be ex-husband was a Marine. He was deployed twice, Iraq in 2003 when it all went down and Afghanistan a year later. I don’t think I slept the whole time he was gone. I have four wonderful spoiled brats. My oldest nearly 15 and my youngest just 5. I am of a mixed heritage, My mother was born and raised in Mexico and my father is second generation born in the US from Sicily. My extended family is a little more than 120 people; at least that was how many was at the reunion a few years ago. So yes being Italian/Mexican and coming from a big family where you have to talk over everyone else to be heard; I have an extremely loud mouth and love big families. I am religious but tend to stay clear of that topic, religion and politics are two subjects where people are too easily offended.

I made a choice tonight; it was my decision to be in Lucca’s company, and I have to say I’ve enjoyed it in ways I never thought imaginable for me. Even though Hazel has been protective, she hasn’t had to rescue me, per se. I’ve been perfectly safe.

Hazel excuses herself to go to the restroom now, leaving me to explain. As soon as she has left, Lucca reaches for my hand again, brushing his thumb over my wrist. “Are you okay?” he asks.

“Yes, I’m confused, I guess, and overwhelmed still.”

“Do you regret meeting me or sharing a meal with me even?”

Do I? I don’t think I do.

“No, I don’t. I said before you have every right to be here, and dinner was lovely, unexpected, but nice.”

“Do you mean the food or the company?”

I blush.

“Doc, I would like to be honest with you, and I would hate for you to walk away tonight before I told you how I feel. I was hurt to fuck earlier when you were distressed, and I am honoured you agreed to eat with me. I know this is a lot for you to take in. When I asked you out to dinner at the clinic, I meant every word. One look at you in that clinic and I was hopeless for you. I admit that I intended to go back to the clinic to try and persuade you to go on a date with me because I have never wanted anything more. Tonight is not how I imagined it would go, or dreamed we would be doing this, here, so soon, but I am delighted we are. I would be lying if I told you otherwise.” He sighs, takes a drink of wine, then continues.

“I know this is not a date, but in a way it has meant more to me and has been most enjoyable.” I must look puzzled because my pathetic sobbing earlier was not my idea of enjoyable.

“You seemed closed and opposed to the idea of ever seeing me again. Tonight was a pleasant surprise because you eventually softened and relaxed, and that is endearing … to watch you flourish. You never shut me out and gave me a chance. When I held you in my arms, it just reinforced everything I have been feeling and thinking since yesterday.”

“Oh?” He has been thinking about me?

“I do not want to let you walk away, Lexi. I want you to agree to a proper date. I want to hold you in my arms and wipe away your tears. I want to get to know you, caress and comfort you. I would love nothing more than to kiss you, taste your sweet lips and cradle you in my arms until you peacefully fell asleep in my embrace. And for the record, about the rescuing … I would love to be the one to rescue you … protect you … treat you … make you feel … show you life through new eyes … teach you to value yourself … make you feel alive.”

Night Games by Collette West Virtual Book Tour & Giveaway

A young couple kissing

Night Games

By: Collette West

The moment Grey Kelleher locks eyes with All-Star shortstop Chase Whitfield, she’s a goner. For years, she’s watched him play on TV, and now she’s gazing at his hard, lean body across a bar in her hometown.

Grey’s crush on Chase goes all the way back to his rookie season. So when she approaches him for an autograph, she’s startled by what a jerk he can be.

Chase is no mood to humor his fans, even one as alluring as Grey. He’s in the last year of his contract and stuck having to prove himself on a minor league team. He’s only there to rehab an injury, nothing more.

But when Grey tells him off, Chase realizes her fiery spirit may be just the distraction he needs to take his mind off not being in the majors. His heart is safe. No one’s going to break his streak as baseball’s most eligible bachelor. Not even someone as irresistible as Grey.

Teaser 2

“Grey, we’re going to stalk his ass all over town if we have to. I’m not going home until I have a picture with my arms wrapped around that smokin’ hot body of his.”

I know she’s trying to overcompensate after what Mark did to her, and of course, she needs to get her groove back somehow. Just not when she’s desperate and inebriated.

“Uh huh, you just want to show off on Facebook.”

“Damn right, I do. I intend to show all those sorry bitches out there that I’ve still got it. C’mon, baseball’s most eligible bachelor? The kids and I would be set for life. What was his last contract for—$35 million? Now that would be sweet. Living in a penthouse. Having a maid pick up after us. Being pampered by one of the sexiest guys in the known universe.”

  “Keep dreaming, Erin.”

“You’re just jealous because you want him for yourself. Admit it.”

Of course, I do. But I’m not telling her that. Her ego’s still bruised. If it helps restore her confidence, I’ll play along. It’s not like we’re actually going to meet him or anything.

“Fine, I’ll give you first dibs. As long as one of us Kelleher girls snags him, I don’t care who it is.” I act like we’ll be in some kind of Bachelorette-style showdown to win him over.

“Now that’s what I’m talking about,” Erin exclaims before whistling loudly. “I bet that boy’s a handful in the sack. Just look at all of the models and actresses he’s dated. It seems like he hasn’t found one yet who’s able to keep him satisfied. That’s for damn sure.”

My throat constricts as she rattles off my biggest pet peeve about Chase. He’s a player both on and off the field. Everyone’s just waiting for him to settle down, but he never does. Erin’s right. No one seems to be good enough for him, and I doubt he’s going to find what he’s looking for in Stockton.

“Listen, Erin. I gotta run or I’ll be late for work. But text me and let me know what time you want me to pick you up.” I grab a brush off my dresser, running it through the tangles the morning breeze left in my hair.

“I’m so wearing that new bra I bought from Victoria’s Secret. It still has the tags on and everything. Hey, you never know. I might get lucky.”

  “All right, see ya tomorrow.”

  “Bye, slut.”

  “Later, ho.”

I hang up, feeling both elated and dejected. I admire Chase just as much for his talent, but all women seem to focus on are his looks or his bank account. Not many know his batting average or his on base percentage. I only hope that the woman he does end up with at least has some interest in baseball. I mean it’s what he does for a living, and it wouldn’t kill him to be a bit more particular when it comes to whom he’s sleeping with.

Not that I stand a chance.

Shanyn's review

3.5 stars

If you are in the mood for a “flirty, fun, make you smile” kind of book, then this is it! There’s some slight angst, but nothing major. And after reading, you walk away happy.

Grey Kelleher is a young, independent woman, from a small town, who loves baseball……especially shortstop Chase Whitfield. She has watched him since his rookie year. When Chase gets hurt, he ends up rehabbing for the minor league team in her town. So when she runs into him, after an unfortunate incident, she is thrown by how rude he can be. Grey is not the kind to hide her feelings, and tells him exactly how rude he is. That’s when the story takes off for me.

I did not like Chase in the beginning of this book. I understood his world, as he knows it, was falling apart around him, because of his injury, but I felt he was a rude, arrogant man. Eventually, he won me over, and I couldn’t stop reading, just to find out if there would be a happily ever after or not.

Chase and Grey live completely different lives. Chase doesn’t know if he wants to drag Grey into this lifestyle, and if she could even survive it.

“I don’t belong here. Chase is right.   We would never work out in the long run.”

There are a number of obstacles for these two throughout the book, and a few moments that gave me “stomach butterflies”, but reading how they overcome the world around them was enjoyable. Chase messes up A LOT, but for some reason, I still liked him and wanted things to work out for them.   There were a few times that I wanted to slap Chase through my kindle, but that is also what made me enjoy this book so much.

“I’m sick of trying to control whatever this is between us. You’re like a force of nature, Grey, throwing me in different directions, keeping me off balance. But at the same time, you make me feel things I’ve never felt before. Being with you has completely upended my life, but in the best way possible.”

This could have been a solid 4 star book for me, but I felt there were some parts that were a little far-fetched for me. Despite that, I really did enjoy reading this book, and always looked forward to getting back to my reading chair and curling up with my kindle, and Chase.

“Earning her love would be something worth striving for. It’d make me want to get up and face the day, regardless if I were still a Major League baseball player or not.”

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball’s biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette’s impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she’s not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. Kim's Review

5 stars

“What a sad, but lovely story. You know it, don’t you?”

“No, I don’t think I do.”

“Well, let me tell you about a brave, young girl.”

THIS BOOK…THIS FREAKIN BOOK! I don’t even know where to start! I guess from the beginning sounds good?!

Ok so as soon as I read the prologue, it had me hooked!! Now I need you to keep in mind when our blog was asked to read this ARC, we had no synopsis yet so I went into this book completely blind. When I read the prologue I was wondering if this was going to be a dark read and wasn’t completely sure. As I went on, I realized it was an MC book but with a bit of a twist. This is definitely not our typical MC story.

“I don’t want in this life anymore. I can’t live like this. I am dying inside.”

Helen aka Keller grew up with her father who just so happened to be the Vice President of an MC Club. One night she gets into a fight with her stepmother and runs to her best friend Holden’s house. When she wakes up the next day something horrible has happened and her life will never be the same.

“Blood in and blood out.”

Ever since Helen was born it was expected that one day she and Holden would eventually be the King and Queen of the MC. Holden has been in love with Helen since they were kids and wants her to want feel/want the same. However, Helen has other plans. She hates the MC lifestyle and hopes that as soon as she can she’ll run from this life and never turn back. One day she finds the out she needs and she gets the hell out of dodge. But not before making a promise that if she’s ever found she’ll return right back to the life she was meant to live.

“The type of past where you pray every damn night that the things you have witnessed and personally experienced haven’t left you irreparably broken.”

Helen was given a few rules to follow before she ran. One of them is to never stay in same place for to long. But Helen is finally sick of running and starts to settle in a place longer than she should.

“What are you doing?”

“Making you feel as alive as I do.”

One day Vin walks in ready to get his first tattoo. There is an instant attraction between them, that is hard to deny. She dismisses him that day, but he doesn’t give up on her so quickly. Helen never lets anyone in and the fact that he’s slowly getting to her starts to break down her walls. But one thing Helen should never forget is that life ain’t always what it seems and Vin has secrets of his own. And sometimes running can only get you so far until your past catches up with you.

“Better the devil you know versus the devil that you know will you without a second though.”

I loved this book! I loved it! I loved it! I loved it! Seriously around 75% I had to message Nicole to let her know just how much I did. My only possible issue would be that there is no epi. I am a BIG fan of epis and normally when a book doesn’t have one I deduct some points. BUT I loved this book so much that it’s getting a solid 5 STARS from me! While I would have loved one, I still loved the end and I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. However, I may or may not be hoping for another book…just saying!! 😉 I read this book with distractions in about 6 hours. I could not put it down! I may or may not have missed bringing my daughter to ballet because of it…YES, it’s that good! I am anticipating this book going live so you all can read it!! You will not be disappointed!!

“No, I would bet that your life story is etched painfully on your skin.”

“Death is not my destination, but my salvation.”

I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Can you really ever outrun your past?

Tuesday Weston’s life was anything but picture perfect. Her mother was “gone” and her father did the unspeakable. Married into the mob, Tuesday had no choice but to run and hide.

Best friends for 5 years, Tuesday and Evan had a rocky roller coaster of a friendship. Disgusted by most of the things Evan does with his life, Tuesday would still give up everything to protect her friend.

Evan is the epitome of a man whore!!! When he realizes his true feelings for Tuesday, he sets out on a mission to make her his.

“I listen because the sound of her voice soothes my soul, because she’s so much more to me than my best friend”

Just when Tuesday’s life is starting to fall into place, her past comes back to haunt her, and all she can think to do is to run to protect those she loves.

“I’m not coming unless I’m buried so deep inside of you that I don’t know where I end and you begin.”

What a fantastic read… I loved the main characters so much, that I was pulling for things to work out with them from the very start. The storyline was great, and I loved how it was written. I would have given this book a 5 star rating but there were some parts of the storyline that were left unanswered, and places where I felt a little more of the back story should have been included ie: Alex, and the relationship with Abby

This book does contain some pretty serious subject matter, but it’s so well written that it is easy to understand.

I absolutely loved Evan, I mean who doesn’t fall for the tattooed, pierced, Tattoo shop owner? slurp =)

“I want you for your future, our future. I just want you.

Overall, I loved this book, it was a pretty fast read, it does contain some pretty steamy sex scenes. It did leave me with some questions left unanswered though, so I’m hoping Katheryn has more to come with these characters.

“I’m happier than I’ve ever been in my life. I’ve also never been more scared. “

NO WORDS LISA EDWARDS!!! Before I go any further if you haven’t read Songbird you need to stop and do that because this book cannot be read as a stand alone. I am going to be honest I wasn’t in LOVE with Book 1. But THANK YOU TINY BABY JESUS for making me read it!!! Honestly, this was everything I wanted, everything I was questioning, there was a reason and you will see. Prepare because sexual tension is something Lisa apparently loves to write and she is really good at it.

Songbird Caged is beyond better then the first book and as soon as I opened it I could not stop reading, I didn’t want to stop reading. So this book starts up where book 1 left off, Tara has promised to wait for Riley and ride off into the sunset when he returns blah, blah let me remind you I am not a Riley fan. From book 1 I never felt Riley was it for Tara. There is something about him that I just don’t agree with. Cole is where she belongs, he’s is different with her and in this book we truly see how much he has changed to prove how serious he is.

“This was the real Cole. This is the man I was hopelessly, desperately in love with.”

But, their relationship isn’t easy in this book…seriously I was trying to take Tara’s clothes off for Cole in this book. I was also ready to shake her and scream JUST TAKE COLE, TAKE HIM!!! By the end of this book I was all YES, THANK YOU and can I kiss Lisa and then it happened?!?! Lisa completely blind sided me and threw in the one thing I was hoping wouldn’t happen and DAMN IT I NEED BOOK 3!!

“I was absolutely fuming. So angry, in fact, I laughed out loud, unable to believe what I’d just read.”

I literally have no words and I am going to end up breaking my kindle if what I want doesn’t happen!! Do you see the emotions I am left with?!?! I think I need therapy and maybe a Cole of my own?!

“I want a boyfriend like that one day,” he said dreamily. “He doesn’t have a gay brother by any chance, does he?”

Or a straight one?

“No sorry, he’s an only child.”

“That’s because when they made that one, they broke the mould.”

DAMN IT isn’t that always the case!!!!

“I’d like to take you out.”

I looked at Cole, slightly amused. “We go out all the time.”

“No, we go to your place, we come here. We go to the gym, for a run on the beach, or we go to Songbirds. We don’t go out.”

We were sitting on Cole’s couch in his apartment, looking at light fittings for Reds on the Internet.

He was wringing his hands. “Would you like to go out with me?” he asked.

I frowned. “What, like on a date?”

“If that’s what you want to call it. I don’t know, I’ve never been on a date. But if going out to dinner and then a club together is a date, then sure, let’s call it a date.”

I looked at him warily. “You do know I’m engaged, right? You haven’t forgotten?”

He shrugged. “In theory. But there’s no harm in letting me take you out. I mean, officially take you out—on a date.”

I had to think about this for a minute. Was it asking for trouble to let him believe we could actually date when I had made a commitment to Riley?

“You know, even if you pay for dinner, I’m not going to sleep with you,” I said with a smile.

“So what’s the point of paying for dinner, then?” he asked cheekily. He took hold of my hands in his. “I wouldn’t expect you to sleep with anyone on a first date. You’re not that kind of girl.”

I exhaled slowly, weighing up how to respond. “Okay, we can go out on three conditions.”

He nodded.

“Firstly, we need to have other people there, so maybe Marcus and Nicole can come with us.”

“Like a double date,” he said, teasingly.

I chuckled, and shook my head. “Secondly, you have to stop calling it a date.”

He grinned at me cheekily.

“Thirdly, you have to wear your Calvin Klein jeans, the ones that fit your butt really well.”

I miss you teaser

I awoke with a start.

My arm had gone to sleep from laying on it all night, and my face was squished into someone’s neck. It was Cole’s. I inhaled his warm cedar and musk scent. Even after sleeping on the couch all night, he smelt unbelievable.

Sitting up, I moved my head from side to side, trying to stretch out the kinks.

“Good morning, sleepy head. Did you just sniff me again?”

I looked down at Cole. He was grinning up at me as I rubbed my shoulders and numb arm.

“Good morning,” I replied with a groan, as I stretched my arms over my head. “You know I’m staying here so I don’t have to sleep on a couch. Kind of defeats the purpose, spending the night out here.”

He sat up and started rubbing my arm, trying to get the blood to flow back into it.

“I disagree. I’m sure I’m much more comfortable to lay on than your lumpy couch.” He moved his attention to my shoulders, and I sighed. “Besides, it’s not every day I have someone dribble all down my neck.”

I wiped my hand across my cheek. It was damp. Oh my God, I had dribbled in my sleep. I checked Cole’s neck and quickly wiped it dry.

“You should be used to it,” I said, trying to make light of the embarrassing situation. “You have girls drooling over you everywhere you go.”

He chuckled. “No one who matters.” He took my hand away from his now dry neck and held it. “Until now, that is.”

Getting close to Tony without allowing herself to become emotionally attached is harder than she thought it would be. Addiction is addiction, no matter what it is swimming in your veins, and Constance finds its Tony she can’t get enough of.

Turned out Gary Steele from Music Line did have a job for me. I almost lost my shit when he said Blow Hole was looking for a replacement guitarist to finish their tour with them. Fucking Blow Hole! As in some of my favorite music to play.

I knew the chords to their songs better than any other band. I liked their sound and I’d always been able to pick up their pace right away. I could hardly believe my luck. So when he told me they wanted me to come to their condo in Los Angeles to audition, I was all over that shit.

I called Shay to bring me some gas money, told her why I needed it, listened to her scream on the other line, and then I drove entirely too fast to the address Gary gave me. I pulled up around the corner and changed my clothes in the backseat of my car before going inside the massive building the boys lived in.

When I finally made it to the top floor, I stood in front of the door and convinced myself that ringing the doorbell was the best thing I could do no matter how badly my nerves were jumping around. I’d never auditioned before since I’d never played for any other reason than I loved it, and I couldn’t lie. I was scared.

When I finally worked up the nerve, I reached out and rang the doorbell. I stood there waiting for someone to answer the door, but no one came. I rang the bell once more, and the door opened quickly.

“Can I help you?” It was Finn, the lead singer.

Everyone who loved music knew who Finn was. His voice was soulful. When he sang, he put so much emotion behind it you could almost believe he was living his lyrics. He was raspy and deep, and I’d be lying if I said he wasn’t attractive.

He was taller in person, and honestly, I expected more muscles, but that didn’t take away from his eyes or those lips that girls seemed to get wet over. He leaned against the doorframe with his arms crossed. A black shirt with cut-off sleeves covered his chest yet revealed his tatted arms, and a pair of drawstring sweats hung from his hips with loose ties that brought my eyes to his crotch.

Quickly, I looked back up at him and my cheeks turned red when his expression told me he’d caught me looking. Turning away, I adjusted my guitar case and shook the thoughts from my head. I wasn’t one to get star struck… ever, but Finn was the real deal.

Looking back up at him, the question in his eyes told me I needed to speak or he was going to close the door in my face.

“I’m here for the audition.” My voice cracked and I wanted to slap myself.

I needed to snap out of it.

I adjusted the guitar strap on my shoulder to show him I wasn’t messing around.

“You’re kidding, right?” His right brow popped up in challenge.

I didn’t have time for the whole females can’t play bullshit I knew was coming. So I went in for the kill.

“Do I look like I’m kidding? Is the word jokester tattooed across my forehead? Yes, I’m a chick. I have tits and a clit, but I have bigger balls than any man you know, and I can play the fuck out of a guitar. Now are you going to keep wasting my time, or are you going to invite me in to play?”

His mouth popped open in a wide, shocked smile. Then he chuckled to himself and stepped aside.

“Then by all means, come in.”

The space was sleek and clean considering it was the home of a bunch of rockers. Abstract red-and-black paintings of different instruments covered white walls, and the place smelled like pot and beer.

The place was huge. I followed behind Finn through three sets of doors until we were in a sitting room, and then I set my guitar case on the counter that split the living room from the kitchen.

A white, leather sectional filled the room. Eyes stared back at me as I entered behind Finn and instantly I recognized the drummer, Chet, and the bass player, Tiny. Finn left the room, leaving me in a silent uncomfortable moment.

Taking a seat on the edge of the couch, I kept my bitch face on. Chet grinned at me from across the room and nodded at me as he licked his lips. His tongue piercing clicked against his teeth. He was the colorful one of the group. Tattoos and piercings everywhere. I did, however, seriously dig his fauxhawk.

I’d been looking at him too long, and he was enjoying the attention. He was definitely the playboy of the group. I’d heard the rumors about him and how he stuck his cock in anything wet. I rolled my eyes and turned my head, and then my eyes connected with the bass player’s.

Tiny’s name was a joke considering there was nothing small about the man. He was huge. His thick tattooed arms were crossed. A look of absolutely no tolerance was plastered on his face. Quiet and mysterious was his game. Every band had one, and I usually dealt best with them, but something about the way he looked at me made me feel nervous.

His dark-brown hair was buzzed short and faded into a set a sideburns that melted into his light mustache and goatee. My eyes shifted to his lips and again, I wanted to slap myself. It was unlike me to even notice the things I’d noticed since I stepped into the den of sin, also known as the home of Blow Hole, and I wasn’t about to let the disgusting pheromones that lingered in the air get to me.

Tiny’s dark, angry eyes dug into mine and I suddenly felt exposed. I sat up and ran my fingers through my hair to make sure I had no strays poking out, and then I turned away from him. Even without looking at him, I could feel his gaze in the side of my face. I didn’t like it.

Just when I was close to telling him off, Finn came back into the room and crashed onto the couch. Behind him, Zeke, the lead guitarist, came limping in. A cast covered his picking hand and instantly I felt for him. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to not be able to play. He looked at me in confusion as he sat down.

As far as I was concerned, Zeke was one of the best guitarists I’d ever heard. His technique was unusual, but the sounds that came from his strings were amazing. I’d practiced his sound since the first time I’d heard them play on the radio. I’d once see them from afar in concert at a bar in Los Angeles, but the boys were playing bigger venues these days.

“So where’s the replacement guitarist? Zeke asked in aggravation.

The room filled with laughter like I was a joke, and it pissed me off. I stood and crossed my arms to show them I wasn’t dicking around.

“That would be me,” I said sternly.

Zeke looked me up and down without a drop of sexual awareness in his gaze, and I appreciated the fact that he was simply sizing me up, not checking me out. It probably had something to do with the petite blond that had followed him into the room.

“Is that so?” he asked.

He was acting cocky, and honestly, he had every right to be.

“Yep. Want me to play or what?” I asked.

Everything depended on this job and while I knew some would call me stupid for being such a bitch, I knew the boys would appreciate it. I’d been a part of their world before. I knew all about the girls that chased rockers around with their legs open. I was sure it was refreshing to have a woman in their presence who didn’t drool all over them. I’d definitely checked them out, but I wasn’t the drooling type. Not to mention, I knew band boys weren’t for me—at all.

Zeke looked around the room at the rest of the guys. “Is this some kind of joke?” he asked.

Again, the boys burst out in laughter, which did nothing but make me madder.

“It’s not a fucking joke. Quit being a chauvinistic asshole. Either you want me to fucking play or not. Say something and quit wasting my goddamn time,” I snapped.

His stern expression cracked into an appreciative smile. “Then play,” he said with a careless shrug.

Stepping over to my guitar case, I flipped it open and pulled out my baby. It was a candy apple-red Les Paul from my dad. I barely played it, but I thought of this audition as a special occasion. The boys of Blow Hole didn’t need to see my normal guitar.

I strapped it on, took a deep breath, and began to play. My fingers dug into the strings and I closed my eyes and let go of everything. Rips and grinds filled the condo, bouncing off the walls and shaking the windows. I mimicked Zeke’s playing perfectly. I even ripped through his unique chords that other guitarist seemed to have a hard time with.

I played an entire song and no one stopped me. When I was done, I unhooked my strap and set my guitar back in its case. The room around me was silent, and when I looked up, looks of shock stared back at me.

The only girl in the room, the tiny blonde with ice-blue eyes, began to clap.

“That was amazing!” she said with a smile.

I nodded at her compliment and turned my attention back to Zeke. He stared at me with angry eyes. That was his thing. I don’t think I’d ever seen a real smile from him ever.

“What did you say your name was again?” he asked.

“I didn’t. No one bothered to ask. My name’s Constance,” I responded.

He looked around the room and then back at me. The side of his mouth lifted in an almost grin. “Well, Constance, welcome to Blow Hole.”

Blow Hole Lyrics

“The Addict”

The addiction you bring

It’s more than I can stand

Feeling your soulful depth

Why can’t you understand?

Bound by sick desires

Reaching for your sin

Body breathing fire

And I can’t let you in

Drugs don’t fail me now

For she’s forever gone

Despising all her strength

Against all that I’ve done wrong

Numb my aching heart

I’ll never be brand new

Finding who I am

In the high that comes from you

I’m addicted to your smile

Withdrawals and frowns are me

Knocked down and I am vile

While you’re forever free

Needing you right here

Jonesing for a dose

Panic turns to fear

Longing for your ghost

Drugs don’t fail me now

For she’s forever gone

Despising her strength

Against all that I’ve done wrong

Numb my aching heart

I’ll never be brand new

Finding who I am

In the high that comes from you
