Holy Guacamole what a ride! By now everyone who knows me, knows I love a good MC story and this one did not disappoint. It had everything I loved and more. We get 3 slurry troll moles (people I’d like to throat punch), 2 crazy as hell mamas, 1 hot as sin sexy biker and the Prez of the Devils Dust MC. The author really hit the nail on the head with this one. There is grit, drama, danger, drugs, angst, betrayal and of course really hot biker sex.

Dani aka Firefly grew up without her father, she was raised by her mother Sadie in the city. Life with her mother was not easy. They don’t have the typical mother/daughter relationship. One night her life changes after her mother informs Dani that their lives are in danger and they have leave. They will be staying with her father Bull. Dani is shocked to learn she has a father and that they are going to stay with him at the MC compound. When Dani sees Shadow there in an instant attraction between the two. However Dani does not understand the MC world or what it means for Shadow to be with the prez’ daughter.

Shadow is the Sergeant at Arms for the Devils Dust MC, there is nothing nice about his lifestyle. They do drugs, kill and steal. Whatever he needs to do he does it to protect the club but most of all he does not do relationships. The moment he meets Dani, she brings outs a primal need in him that he has never experienced. Dani’s innocence, she lacks the experience. She doesn’t’ understand the way things work around there. He won’t betray his club or his Prez. The president’s daughter is off limits and the more he tries to push her away the more he is drawn to her. He finds himself having a hard time staying away from her. Shadow seeks out Dani needing be with her, next to her one but then he pushes her away. I swear I got dizzy with this.

“Dani, don’t read anything into this, there’s nothing between us. Being together is a hell we can’t afford to explore.”

Here is the catch, Dani is nothing like he pegged her to be, she is not a stuck up princess. She has a dark side and when Shadows pushes to far he is not prepared for what happens. Much to her mother’s dismay, she is a force to be reckoned with. After all she is the daughter of the President and she takes after Bull. She is a fighter and will do what is necessary to survive. The more they are at the club the more her mother, witnesses the change in Dani and her mother becomes more angry,

“This is wrong. I raised you better than this. I gave you a better life than this; hell, I gave you life. Look at you; you are nothing more than biker trash!”

“The only time you were there was to tell me what a fu*k up I was. Well, no more. I realize now I could have never made you happy anyway. I’ve always been biker trash to you; that’s what pisses you off more than anything.”

“I couldn’t stand the sight of you past the age of seven! NO matter what you did, you reminded me of him!”

Shadow is such biker man, he is totally alpha but when he is around Dani he feels different, he wants more and feels more. The problem he has is if he can put in all on the line and go against club law. When he pushes too far and Dani doesn’t want to be around him he really starts to feel remorse. The thought of not having her there scares him. Dani proves over and over that she is not a city girl, she has the MC in her blood and he is turned on by it.

 “I still want to explain thing,”

“I think it’s a little late for that, don’t you?

“No, it’s not too late if you will stop being a stuck up bitch for a second and hear me out.”

“You were right; I shouldn’t have gotten involved with you. I expect a little more than to be someone’s sloppy seconds.”
“You can’t avoid me forever, Dani.”

Shadow and Dani can play a mean game of cat and mouse. I can tell you the author spared no angst in that department. I was angry, excited and wanting throat punch a slurry troll more than a couple of times. Dani gives as much as they throw at her. The author did not sell this character short, she wrote a heroin true to her upbringing in NYC and that of a Prez’ daughter. Dani has spunk, class and a mean right hook.

“Then I got to know you a little better, and now, after that little charade in there, I know you have Devil’s Dust blood in you, and I think you know it, too. I’ve never done this before, so be warned. I’m going to be a shitty romantic, and you’re going to be pissed more than you actually like me. If we decide to go forward, you are mine! I own you, do you understand? I won’t let you go, and I sure as hell won’t let you go back to New York. Say it Dani. Say you’re mine and you understand.”

“I’m your and I understand.”

The author gives us some damn hot sex scenes with these two and also some pretty big blows up that will get your blood boiling (And panties wet). Shadow is one dirty biker (Swear to God) and Dani is not that innocent. She likes it just the way Shadows gives it to her.

“Say it!”

“Spank me, Shadow.”

“Fu*k yeah, just like that, baby. Eyes on me Firefly.”

The author did an amazing job with this book. I could not put it down. I was drawn from the start and completely invested till the very end. There was not once that this story fell short or deviated from the MC genre. Something happens (you need to read it because I will not spoil it) within the MC and let me tell you I did not see that coming. Left me in total shock. When Dani’s life is in danger and the way of life of the MC is jeopardized, who will save them both or can they be saved? Can Shadow and Dani find their HEA? Will Shadow be able to make the ultimate sacrifice to keep the woman he loves safe and by his side? I loved the way the author ended this book and I cannot wait to see what happens in the future for them and the Devils Dust MC’s. I want more! If you love a good MC story then this one is definitely one you want to be picking up. You do not want to miss out on this one.

High Class Harlot

(Switching Tracks Series, Book Two)

By

Delia Steele

Synopsis

People spend their whole lives being condescending cockstars. Assuming they know something when they don’t. Assuming they know who someone is when they have no idea. Assuming that, because they can see something, they understand it. Let me tell you right now, STOP ASSUMING! Until you walk a day in someone’s gold-studded hooker heels, you do not know them or their story. Do not assume your struggle is worse simply because it’s yours. Do not assume they are ok just because they look to be so. And do not assume you are a better person simply because someone chooses to sin differently than you.

My family has money. We buy what we want without fear of being destitute, and we will never worry about having food or any other necessities. My struggle in life is not with the money, but where it comes from. My father’s secret is carrying a hefty price tag that I can no longer afford. My soul is priceless, and he is stripping it away from me. My world isn’t all rainbows, sparkle, and diamonds falling from my exit hole like Rory’s story portrayed. For every high, there is a low, and the higher you go, the further you have to fall.

I have the best things in life, except for life itself. Everyone I love has moved away; my passion to exist has deflated; my job is a joke; but more than anything, I hate who I am allowing myself to become. Is there anyone strong enough to hold my hand on this road to self-preservation, or am I to travel it alone?

If you start my story, please find it in yourself to finish it before you judge me. Don’t assume you can know where I am headed without seeing where I have already been. I am Amandolette Riaz, and I am a glitzed-up glitch in today’s delicate world.

**High Class Harlot is Book 2 in the Switching Tracks Series. It can be read as a standalone but most characters are introduced in Book 1, Trailer Park Princess. High Class Harlot picks up in timeline where Trailer Park Princess ends.**

Delia is Mexican-American, or in her words, “brown!” In her spare time, she enjoys singing extremely loud, dancing around for hours, and watching her kids just be kids. If she could be anything when she grows up—because she is currently refusing to—she wants to be a fulltime superhero. excerpt

Walking behind Axel, I gripped his arms and wrenched him back. “Back the fuck off, Axe,” I ordered as Axel stumbled back. Looking over Axel’s shoulder, a pair of huge green eyes glanced up at me, and I stilled.

Hell. It was that cheerleader. The one I’d spoken to after the game.

I tipped my head up to the sky. Someone up there really fuckin’ hates me.

Axel was suddenly in my face. “The bitch saw too much. She needs to know she can’t talk. I gotta deal with this shit now! Can’t have no loose ends,” he hissed out, his hands fisted at his sides as the cheerleader seemed to sink her tiny body back even farther against the wall, eyes darting everywhere but on us. She was crying, for fuck sake. Her black makeup was all over her pale face.

“She won’t.” I looked at the chick. “Will you?” I practically growled. She was frozen with fear. “Fuckin’ tell him!”

More water filled her eyes and she began shaking her head. “I-I-I won’t.”

Spinning Axel around by his arm, I said, “The cops are just about here. You need to split. I’ll make sure she doesn’t squeal.” Axel spit on the ground at her feet before pushing past me, but not before I grabbed his bicep again, my mouth at his ear. “You and me need to talk. You’ve fucked up, brother—Levi dealing for the crew, bringing this to my school, everything! I’m not gonna let this shit go.”

Scoffing a laugh at my threat, Axel ripped his arm from my hand and marched off in the direction of the parking lot. I watched him go, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. I wasn’t getting a good feeling about something. Like some big fuckin’ omen was following my brothers. It was obvious Axel was getting in deeper with the crew, moving up, getting in tighter with Gio, and by the looks of things, dragging Levi with him.

Dragging him straight into hell.

A shuffling sound from behind me pulled my attention.

  1. The chick. I’d almost forgotten about her.

Just as I turned around, I caught her edging away, trying to make her escape. That is until she saw me watching and froze, like a damn deer caught in headlights. I had to sort this shit quick, protect my family. No matter the cost.

“What the fuck did you see?” I snapped coldly.

“N-nothing, I saw nothing…” she whispered, all huge eyes on her tiny face. She must have only been about five feet flat.

“You’re lying,” I said coldly.

“No… really…” she whispered. I could see her pulse slamming in her slim neck.

What the fuck was she doing here in the quad, on her own, at this time of night anyway? Only reason I was even lifting weights this late was because Rome and me always put in extra sessions, way more than anyone else.

I pushed my chest against her body and heard a short sharp inhale of breath. “You saw my brother. What was he doing? And don’t fuckin’ lie.”

I knew she knew what was going down, of course, but I needed her so fearful of me that she wouldn’t say shit even to her closest friends. I had to make sure she kept her mouth shut. Couldn’t go spreading rumors around campus.

With a slump of her shoulders, I saw the fight leave her body. “Drugs. I think he was selling drugs.” She sighed in defeat. “No. I know he was selling drugs.”

Breathing in through my nose, I tipped my head back.

Fuckin’ A.

 “I’m so scared too. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to fall. But I don’t know how to win”

I fell in love with this series from the moment I first read Sweet Home, which is the story of Molly and Rome. And to be completely honest, my wanting to read Sweet Fall, was mainly driven to see more Rome and Molly. Well that was until I started reading it, I immediately fell in love with Lexi and Austin’s story.   Sweet Fall takes place at the same time Sweet Home does, and please note that if you have not read Sweet Home, you don’t need to read it to read Sweet Fall, this can be read as a stand-alone. Although if you plan on reading Sweet Home and Sweet Rome, you need to read them first as Sweet Fall will contain spoilers for these first two books.

Lexi has just lost her best friend Daisy to the same demons she battles with daily. But to her friends, she is the perky college student that always seems to have a smile on her face. But beneath the makeup she wears is a girl who struggles to one day be normal and happy.

 ‘She Concealed her tears but shared her smiles’

Austin and Rome grew up together playing football but lived very different lives, Rome grew up with money and privilege where Rome came from the wrong side of tracks only knowing double wides, gang life and struggling to put food on the table. Like Lexi, he too never shows the people around him the real him and hides behind his tattoos .

“Why the tattoos?

We all have secrets, Austin. Some people’s are bigger than others, that’s all.   Wouldn’t you agree?”

When these two first meet, it’s on the field after a winning game when all is quiet, and they make a connection. They then meet again but its due to her being in the wrong place at the wrong time and it’s not so nice and she is left terrified for her life and even more, terrified of him. But as time passes and circumstances keep throwing them together, they soon learn that even though they have lived very different upbringings and live very different lives, they truly are a lot like. They hide behind their makeup and tattoos, never showing the world the real person they are, never showing the demons they fight and their daily struggles.

And that’s how we fell.

Fell into sleep.

Fell into trust..

Fell for each other.

Both these characters were so amazing, it truly was hard to not feel so connected to them. We got to see a different side of them, one they never let anyone else see except for each other but they don’t even show each other 100% of their true self.

Sweet Fall was written in dual POV and I really loved that it was, you truly got to see both their struggles, it wouldn’t have shown a true picture of their story if you saw it only from one point of view, you wouldn’t have felt nor understood what both of them were feeling and experiencing, the internal struggles that they battled as well as the external ones.

This book was such an intense emotional read that really took me by surprise. I truly did not expect this book to be so intense and have them struggling with such dark troubling demons. I also truly didn’t expect it to also be this amazing and to love it so much more than Sweet Home. I absolutely fell in love with Molly and Rome and didn’t think any of the other character could even measure up to be as good but I must say, I loved Austin and Lexi so much more. I became emotionally connected and invested in these two right from the start and could not get enough of them. As much as I loved this book, I must say there were a few times I had to put the book down to take a breather due to the intensity at times. Although I found myself not able to stay away for long and picking it right back up soon after putting it down, I needed to know what was going to happen to these two.   I pretty much inhaled this book within a 24 hour period, but now I am left with a serious book hangover and so looking forward to Sweet Hope, hope it’s going to be Ally’s story.

Synopsis

Lauren Layne’s New Adult novel tells the story of a girl with secrets, a guy with scars, and a love that could save them both… or destroy them.

When Olivia Middleton abandons the glamour of Park Avenue for a remote, coastal town in Maine, everyone assumes she’s being the kind do-gooder she’s always been. But Olivia has a secret: helping an injured war veteran reenter society isn’t about charity—it’s about penance. Only, Olivia’s client isn’t the grateful elderly man she’s expecting. Instead, he’s a brooding twenty-four-year-old who has no intention of being Olivia’s path to redemption . . . and whose smoldering gaze and forbidden touch might be her undoing.

Paul Langdon doesn’t need a mirror to show him he’s no longer the hotshot quarterback he was before the war. He knows he’s ugly—inside and out. He’ll do anything to stay in self-imposed exile, even accept his father’s ultimatum that Paul tolerate the newest caretaker for three months or lose his inheritance. But Paul doesn’t count on the beautiful twenty-two-year-old who makes him long for things that he can never have. And the more she slips past his defenses, the more keeping his distance is impossible.

Now Paul and Olivia have to decide: Will they help each other heal? Or are they forever broken?

“Two completely shattered souls doing a weird approach-and-recoil dance around each other.”

Yup that quote pretty much sums it up.

Olivia Middleton is running from her problems in NYC.  After destroying her relationship, and dropping out of NYU.  Olivia accepts an offer to move to Bar Harbor, Maine to care for an injured war veteran.  Assuming she is going to tend to an older man, she is shocked when Paul Langdon turns out to be everything she wasn’t expecting.

Paul Langdon is hiding, away from the world, away from his problems.  Living in his family’s summer home in Maine, Paul’s days are filled with bourbon and books.  After successfully chasing off several caretakers, the Senior Langdon pulls off a last ditch effort to help his son live some semblance of a normal life. What Paul doesn’t realize is just how much Olivia could help him if he just let her in.  With his father threatening to cut off his funding, Paul has to find a way to keep Olivia around long enough to collect on his inheritance.

Paul is a super alpha male, angry at the world, and pissed off that his father would send Olivia to tend to him.  She is beautiful, funny, smart, everything in a women he would have dated “before” his life was turned upside down. He tries everything at first to get her to run including a very passionate kiss that knocks Olivia on her knees.  And so it begins…the dance…

“There’s a dull roar in my ears.  Oh my God, This isn’t happening.” I am not being flat out rejected by the guy I just let finger me.”>

Olivia puts on a tough girl exterior and does her best to nuzzle her way into Paul’s life, she inserts herself into his everyday life uninvited, joins him on his daily activities, barters for information, all in the effort to help heal Paul.  As much as Paul does want to let her in, fear and self-deprecation have forced him to build a wall of boulders around him.

“There has to be a human being left under the cold savage.  I just don’t know how to reach him…yet.”

“I want to lose myself in her.”

~~~~~~~~~~
I really loved this book, it was very fast paced, the storyline was strong, and it invoked so many emotions in me.  One minute I would feeling like things were finally going to head in one direction and <b><i>BAM</b></i> I would be hit something that would knock me back and have me gasping to catch my breathe.  The characters were easy to relate to, although it would have been a solid 5 star read for me if Olivia’s back story was just a bit more detailed and realistic.  Her reasoning for running didn’t feel serious enough for me to drop out of school and flee her life in NYC.
“You made me whole.  You took a wretched, broken soul and showed him how to take his life back.” le sigh
More times then not I wanted to just slap Paul, but I could totally relate to him at the same time.  After the things he had seen in the war-zone, I felt his emotions were justified, but his behavior to push Olivia way would really piss me off, in a good way, if that makes sense.  Fear of rejection, especially in his physical condition, made it much easier to understand Paul.
Overall, this is a great read, I would highly recommend it.  There is some very descriptive sexual scenes, but nothing over the top.
excerpt
“So what is it?” I ask, tentatively sitting in the chair across from his even though I’m uninvited and clearly unwelcome. I study him. Paul has just a bit more stubble than he did yesterday. Normally I prefer a clean-cut guy, but this slightly rough look really, really suits his golden-boy-meets-jaded-war-hero vibe. I wait for him to look at me, mentally bracing myself for the shock of it.
As though he’s sensed my thoughts, his gray eyes flick to mine, and I’m not sure why I thought bracing for it would make a damned bit of difference. It still sends ripples of want from my eyelashes right down to my toes.
“What is what?” he asks.
It takes me a moment to realize that I asked him a question. “The precious liquor I threw out. What is it?”
His eyes flicker in irritation and I think he’s going to tell me to get the hell out, but something seems to stop him, and he very slowly lifts the crystal glass from the table and hands it to me.
I sniff. “Scotch.”
He nods. “A thirty-year-old Highland Park. Not the best we have, but not something to be tossed down the drain, either.”
“Very alpha.”
He rolls his eyes, and I take a tiny sip, knowing from past experience that I don’t really like Scotch. Turns out I don’t like the $500 one either, and I hand it back to him with a little shrug.
“Want anything?” he asks. “Wine?”
“I’m good.”
Actually, water would be great right about now. Between the hot look in his eyes and the heat of the fire, I’m a bit, um, parched.
“What are you reading?” I ask.
He groans. “Not this again. I know we’re stuck with each other, but do we have to do the get-to-know-each-other chat? Can’t we just sit in silence?”
The way he says stuck with each other gives me pause. I know why I’m sticking this out, but why is he? From what I’ve heard from Lindy and what I inferred from his father, Paul has no qualms about driving people away.
Is he treating me differently? Or just biding his time until he figures out how to add me to his list of banished caretakers?
I really, really want it to be the first one.
I march to the beat of my drum. Can you hear that? That perpetual bang, bang, bang that’s continually drumming relentlessly inside of my head. Oh, that’s just me? Never mind then, carry on…
Beautiful words, lovely plot lines, and COFFEE…Three of my favorite things.
I savor the weird, embrace the pervy, and willingly open both arms to anything that will make me laugh.
My obsession is books. I like to read them, write them, and inhale them in any way my ravenous mind will allow.
I’m awkward and sarcastic and can’t take a proper selfie if my life depended on it.
I was once told by my high school English teacher that my colorful ability to state the obvious would be my biggest weakness. I thanked him and made it my life’s mission to make that my biggest strength.
At times, I’m bordering on obscene and have strongly considered tattooing the words Approach With Caution on some part of my body.
Josie's review
*If you have not read book 1 in the Life Series, Where Life Takes You, please do not read this review it will have spoilers.*
OMG, where do I begin!!! Claudia Burgoas, my hat (If I wore one) goes off to you. Next to You, is amazing, emotional and heartwarming journey. This one picks up right where the first ended. After getting engaged to Dan, Becca ran away from everything she knows and only leaves a letter behind explaining her exit. This story is told in Danny’s POV and let me tell you I love it! The author did an amazing job with bringing his POV to light and needless to say he is not happy that the love of his life walked out on him.
From reading the first one, we know that Becca was raped by her ex-boyfriend and was blamed for her step sister’s death. She was treated poorly by her mother and step-father and never recovered from the violence she experienced. In order for Becca to truly move on with her life with Dan and find a sense of normality and balance in life she goes to Geneva to attend intensive therapy. Dan is a controlling man and takes over every aspect of Becca’s life, but he does this because he wants to protect her and keep her safe. After Becca takes off Dan really starts to spirals out of control.
“Never mind, she left. As in she’s no longer a part of the company or my life.”
“Setting the Subaru on fire was a once in a lifetime thing. A way to….fu*k she’s going to go nuts when she learns about it. She’s going to crack my nuts.”
Although this story is told in Dan’s POV the author gives parts of what Becca is going through as well. I think the author did an amazing by offering readers’ letters and email correspondence between them during their time apart. It really made the story not feel all one sided and I really liked knowing what she was going through at the time. Becca can see the trepidation, sadness, anxiety, loneliness, hurt and anger that’s going on with Dan. He does not understand that Becca asking for this time to heal is not a reflection on her love for him but more for her. She needs to love herself but he reacts bitterly, rash and vengefully which only pushes an already fragile Becca away. I understood Dan’s frustration, but at times I was so upset with him. The author really lets readers get into his head and let me tell you something, he is a riot (Swear To God).
“She asked me to email her, even if I’m upset. Did I show you the fu*king essay like letter she sent me? It was pages and pages written front and back. It is easier via email like what I send her on a daily basis.”
Although Becca is not around Dan, he is still protective and a total alpha male when it comes to Becca. He starts to take out all those that had a part in destroying her soul. I loved that author gave us bad Dan, funny Dan and Alpha Dan.
“This is my house and you bullying us—“
“Not bullying, only protecting my own. Protecting the woman who’s a fu*cked up mess because neither one of you gave a sh*t about her. Your son had no right to tell you what happened to Becca, your wife shouldn’t have gone to our house and give her sh*t…the lack of parenting on your part destroyed my girl. Let me repeat this one more time so it’s clear for the two of year. If you contact my girl again, I’ll destroy you. The two of you have two weeks to leave, or I’ll make sure your life becomes a living night mare, like the ones Becca has nightly because of your fu*king son.”
Months later when Becca comes back to the states Dan realizes that he really pushed Becca away. When he finds out through friends and family that she has been back for months he slowly to starts to realize he pushed for control for his needs and hers. He starts to repair the damage he has done and works to be a better man but Becca is not the same fragile girl he met years ago. She is stronger and only gave him what he pushed for. Dan is so cute, he is jealous of any man that comes near Becca and all buts pees on her leg.
“Dan you barged into my house without saying hello and kicked out the nice guy –”
“Who was staring at your ass.”
“There’s not much to stare at.”
“There’s plenty to look at, princess.”
“I’m fu*king branded by her and my body responds to hers with only being a mile from it. This is not healthy. I stare at my hand. It’s going to be you and me for a while.”
“Friends, I guess Dan. I like the sound of it better than being nothing.”
“But be away, that won’t last long. To be blunt, I want more, including getting in your panties, Rebecca. Not long ago I discovered that you and I are vined together, branded and there’s no way in hell I’m spending the rest of my life like I’m missing a part of myself. Don’t ty to confuse me with your brother this time, because I don’t need more siblings.”
This is the conclusion of Dan and Beccas’s story and I think the author did an amazing job! I could not put this book down. I cried, laughed, swooned and was left panting. The way she gave readers drama but added humor was awesome. I was not bored or lost with this story at any time. The epilogue was EPIC – What can I say she ended in a way that was perfect for this couple!!! I really loved this story and would highly recommend everyone picking up this series.
“Why don’t I prepare her a hot chocolate with extra foam? That fu*king elephant she described is getting huge and one of these days we’ll have to move to a new building so he animal has room to grow.”
“Tony? What’s with him, should I fire him?”
“Yes. Well, no, I mean why he is guarding my butt? “
“What happens to you at night?”
“You really want to know Rebecca?” I go to bed without you, needing you and then of course. I wake up with you next to me. I detest it. I love you, Rebecca Trent; please fight for this with me. I don’t want to lose you.”
Jodie's review
3.5 stars
This book isn’t your typical love story, in fact it is one you absolutely need to go into knowing you are in for a dark ride.  This book wasn’t pretty with the hearts and flowers, it was more.  This was a story about survival, about how far a person will and can go to survive.  This is a book that lets you instantly connect with the characters and even when you know what is going to happen you still find yourself hanging on every word.
It starts with Lily and her sister ready to go out and explore the states outside Australia where they were born and raised.   They decided their first adventure will be New York, were they sightsee and have an absolute amazing time never knowing they are being watched.  And that’s when this story goes from light to dark.  They are taken and forced into a world they have no idea even exist.  A world they are desperate to survive and escape.  But figuring out this world isn’t so easy.  Lily becomes a collection piece in this world and her sister becomes a slave.  They need to escape but in this world it seems impossible.  The one thing Lily didn’t see was her falling for her guard, Jake.
“There’s bad men and there’s good men, but Jake keeps swinging like a pendulum between the two, and I can’t fit him into a category where I feel he belongs.”
Jake was a mystery!! I almost instantly fell for him and was intrigued by him.  He is so much more then what you see and the way Evie wrote him made it impossible not to love him.  Jake is the perfect solider for Marco until he encounters Lily.
“She’s the fire, and I am a stupid motherfucking moth who wants what I can’t have. And what I can’t have is Lily Morgan.”
Lily, is exactly what she needs to be but it is also what can get you killed you in this world.  She is feisty, determined, and she is loyal to her sister.  I was in complete awe of this girl’s strength.  I broke for her, I cried for her and I just wanted to hug her.   These two together were like a match and flame you just knew there was going to big fire once they were came together.
This is a book for those that love that dark romance, those books that take you on a journey of a world you never even wanted to know existed.  This is a journey that stays with you even after you finish and one that shows you just how deep a sister bond runs.  AMAZING debut by Evie Harper and I absolutely can’t wait to see whose story we get next!!
Jen's review
Something In The Way He Needs
4 stars
The beginning of this story started off really strong for me. The way Asher and Daniel met had me smiling and anticipating fireworks for sure. The saying opposites attract holds very true for these men. I was very interested to see how these men could co-exist together being that they are so very different.
I mean we have Asher who is a Dom, loves having absolute control over everything in life, from his job to his love life. I use the term love life loosely. He doesn’t do relationships. He plays out sex scenes with men he just meets. Never seeing the same man twice. Until Daniel walks into his life everything starts to change. Feeling like he has no control over Daniel it really strikes a chord in him. Asher is a complex man and we quickly learn that he’s an extremely jealous person. An emotion he’s not familiar with. There were times where his anger got the best of him so much so that he really came off as abusive in ways.
Then we have Daniel, he marches to the beat of his own drum. He’s a drifter of sorts, never really staying in one place for too long. However, Daniel doesn’t have sex unless he’s in a relationship. He’s clumsy, directionally challenged, hides behind clothes that are 4 sizes too big. There were times where Daniel came across to being younger than his 33 years, but I figured that he was because of his carefree nature. He loves feeling needed but at the same time you can feel his insecurities. He’s lived in a lot of places, done a lot of things but he’s never really felt like he just fits.
I really loved watching these men change and meld together. Their relationship definitely isn’t an easy one. They have to overcome their differences and their insecurities to make it work. And that road definitely came with some bumps. I have to admit I wasn’t as understanding as Daniel. I honestly wanted to throat punch Asher for his little episode and I don’t think I could have been so forgiving.
“What you want is to be worshiped. You want someone who’ll follow you around and bow at your feet.”
“Do you know what that’s like?”
“To be with someone who shines so brightly he’s all you can see?”
Over all I really enjoyed this story. I would have like to know what happened with Daniel’s brother since he plays a big enough role in the story. If we had gotten an epi or something that showed more of their future I would have given this a higher rating. The ending was nice but I was left with wanting to know how things were for them down the road.
Strong Enough  4.5 stars
I’m not usually a fan of insta love or when characters hook up pretty much from the get go and this one definitely has that going on in many ways. However, I have to say it really worked for me. This story is a very sweet, romantic, feel good kind of book with some steam mixed in.
Normally the books I’ve read in the past that have characters where there is a big age difference, the older male is usually the one who is more dominate, the care taker, the protector. I found it so refreshing that the roles were reversed in this one.
Spencer is a 38 year old man who’s been through a lot in his life. He’s damaged in many ways and because of what he lived through, it has left him insecure with a lot of hang ups. He’s very successful but he’s lonely and doesn’t have a lot of confidence in himself. Outside of a few friends he really just keeps to himself, not really having the courage to put himself out there even when he finds himself lusting after one very hot construction worker. He doesn’t trust easily and assumes he’s not good enough for anyone because of his past.
Emilio is not your average 22 year old. He’s really mature for his age. He knows what he wants and he’s not afraid to go after it. While reading I really started to understand why this man was the way he was and honestly it really made his maturity level that much more believable. Honestly I have never met someone that young to be that focused and determined. He’s so patient and so loving I absolutely fell in love in him.
“there’s something about him that makes me feel like he needs me, like maybe even though he’s older and shit, I can take care of him and he’d let me.”
“He wanted Spencer in a way he never wanted another, and there was no way he could give that up.”
“It might not stay… you know…and you’re so…”
“I promise to make sure you always feel good when you’re with me”
I really loved this couple, the age difference didn’t bother me at all. Once I got to know these men I couldn’t help but really route for them. They may have gotten together really fast but you could honestly feel the respect, trust and love they had for each other. It really left me feeling really good. I definitely would recommend this book.
More Than Everything
4.5 stars
“I’m putting together an album of the life I never saw coming. The life I never knew I always wanted.
Confused? Well, hopefully I can help clear it up for you. Oh, and don’t freak about the flashbacks, okay? Think of it more like you’re hearing a story from beginning to end, with a little bit of narration in the middle. It’ll be okay; I promise.”
I thoroughly enjoyed the way this book was told. It’s not your typical multi pov kind of book. When you start reading it you’ll see what I’m talking about but the way Cardeno C. has told this story is actually quite brilliant. I love the fact that as it’s being told the main character is speaking to you as if you were sitting right there with him having a conversation. It really was engaging as well as refreshing. From the start of the story I was completely invested in Charlie’s journey.
Charlie is the narrator of this story which spans over a 15 year period, however, we do get instances where we see Scott and Adan’s pov’s mixed in as well. I really commend this author on how she wrote these men. All 3 men each had their own distinct voice, different personalities and issues. There wasn’t a time where I was confused on who was talking or who did what. They aren’t perfect but you’ll fall in love with each of them along the way.
This story brought out a lot of emotions in me. Charlie goes through a lot and I couldn’t help but feel for him every step of the way during his journey. Love, heartbreak, anger, sadness are just some of the things I felt while I sat here listening to Charlie talk about his life. You really do feel like you are listening to his story vs reading it because you start to look at Charlie as your friend. I know sounds crazy right but really it was just so well written the pages come to life.
I’m definitely a fan of this author after reading this series. They all have that sweet feel good feel to them, a coming together of family with some hot men and steamy sex. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I’d highly recommend you reading them in order because it’s nice to see how all 3 books tie in together. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Excerpt
MORE THAN EVERYTHING BY CARDENO C.
I was so lost in thought, I had the door open before I looked up. I raised my head when I saw two sets of feet walk in.
And there, standing in my apartment, were Scott Boone and Adan Navarro. I gasped and leaped back from the physical embodiments of the ghosts who had never stopped haunting me.
“Charlie!” Scott shouted happily, and at the same moment Adan excitedly cried out, “Chase!”
It was like a fucking nightmare.
“Fuck,” I muttered and turned my head quickly from my first love to the only other man I’d trusted with my heart. They’d each eviscerated me once upon a time, and though I’d healed, mostly, being faced with both of them at the same moment was still too much…way too much. I suddenly felt as nauseous as Stacia.
Adan slowly turned his head to Scott, whose mouth was gaping open.
“Charlie?”Adan asked weakly.
Scott closed his mouth and gulped. “Chase?”he said.
“Fuck,” I groaned, as my brain started catching up to the comedy of horrors unfolding in front of me. It wasn’t just that they were both there at the same time. They had been standing close together when I’d opened the door. Really close. And was Scott’s arm around Adan’s back?
They both looked over at me and stared.
“Charlie?” Scott asked, his voice hesitant, the question clear from his tone.
“Chase?” Adan asked, sounding equal parts incredulous and horrified. Their tones and body language had already clued me in to what I was seeing, but when I shifted my gaze from Scott’s eyes to Adan’s and then back again, my suspicion was confirmed. I knew them well enough to recognize what I was seeing.
I’d loved two men during my thirty-five years on this planet. Only two. And I’d lost them both. Wouldn’t it just figure that they’d found in each other what they had both deemed missing in me?
I dropped my face into my hands and whispered, “Fuck.”
Cardeno C. – CC to friends – is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few “awwws” into a reader’s day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.
Cardeno’s Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, “You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day.”
ONE_NIGHT_STAND
excerpt
My name is Grace Kinsella and I’m a filthy tweeter.
I can turn a hundred and forty characters into living sex. I can string words together in a way that will make you wet your panties with lust. I can make a man blush before he even gets to the hashtag. I am famous for pithy filth.
In fact, my girlfriends and I have an online Facebook group called the Filthy Blue Birds. And we’re not the only ones. The world of pithy filth is booming, friends. There are endless groups like ours. There are legions of shy girls who come alive when faced with the hundred-and-forty-character challenge. And there is a very special place online where we meet, challenging each other to achieve a new level of smexy typing.
I call that Twitter list Dirty Heaven. I made it up, like literally I’m the freaking founder. So Dirty Heaven is my kingdom and I’m the queen.
I’ll stop here to take a bow.
Besides being a list, Dirty Heaven is an online competition that happens on Twitter every Saturday night across the world—yes, we have filthy tweeters from all walks of life. At 8 PM Eastern the FT’s come alive and each league puts up their best and brightest. You get one tweet, one hashtag, and one chance to shine.
I don’t win anymore, it’s simply not fair. I’m now the judge. But back when we were first putting this together my tweets took me to Dirty Heaven time after time after time. That’s back when we used to have the competitions nightly and the group was small. Just fifteen or twenty of my closest online stranger friends. Each competition we had an online muse and we took turns choosing who would benefit from our blush-inducing prose. Sometimes the girls picked models or rock stars.
I only ever had one muse and his name is Vaughn Asher.
Yes, the Vaughn Asher. A Hollywood legend. He started out in the boy band 2 Far Out, then when his angelic voice changed as he hit puberty he graduated into Disney sitcoms. Most child actors would fade after that, never able to make the transition. But Vaughn Asher doubled down on the workouts—gaining the title of Most Envied Body in Hollywood six years in a row from Buzz Hollywood Magazine—and the preteen wannabe turned into an action-hero heartthrob overnight.
Just thinking his name makes me sigh. He’s so freaking gorgeous. That messy dark hair that makes him look like he just rolled out of bed. Those tight abs that just make you want to drag your tongue all over them to see if they taste as good as they look. And that package, boy. He’s never done any nudes so I have to use my imagination, but my imagination is vivid. I have a very clear picture.
Besides, you know what they say about a man’s thumbs, right? Well, Vaughn Asher has incredible thumbs. And large feet. They say that too.
Yes, doing filthy things to his six-foot-two frame has been my idea of Dirty Heaven for almost three years now. I’d like to say I’ve said everything imaginable about him, but that’s not true. I never run out of ideas. It’s like my brain only exists to compose a one-hundred-and-forty-character sentence that will turn him red.
That’s my fantasy. That’s my fairy tale. Vaughn Asher doing things to me that can only be said in a hashtag.
#WhatADick
Vaughn Asher. I’ve stalked him relentlessly. I shaped and formed my lust into the perfect dirty hashtag…day after day… weekend after weekend. He was my prince. My fairy tale. My fantasy.
I gave him the best years of my online life and what did he do for me?
Ruined my social media experience one tweet at a time. That’s what.
#Fantastic #BackToNatureFucking
#MissingSomething #You
And now #TheDickWhoIsVaughnAsher thinks he can weasel his way back into this filthy blue bird’s Twitter account? He’s wrong.
His public fantasy is about to collide… ah, fuck it. He’s hot as hell, bitches. I need more than a free sample. This time I want it all and I’ll do whatever it takes to get it.
JA
J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).
She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.
