No question here, this is not some new plot we’ve never read before. Nope, but, what we do have is a tried and true plot with the right type of characters. The right kind of wit & humor. The right kind of nerdy….something I am really enjoying reading at the moment 🙂

That’s what college is for, right?

Drinking, dancing like an idiot. Falling for your hot guy friend and then getting over it by hooking up with someone else.

I normally don’t like the ‘list’ type of books, but, I do like to read about the friends to more category. Beck and Lyla did it for me here. Her list of becoming a new ‘college’ person is a list that has all the normal college do’s. Her way of explaining them so they match her personality.

Do a keg stand—simple right? Nope, Lyla has given it another level Remember to not wear a skirt that night

Make out with a beautiful stranger— ah, rules…we need rules- Exact level of making out TBD as the kissing happens

This was cute, likable story. I didn’t end up falling as wished I would have.  I loved their internal thinking about each other but kept wanting them to vocalize it in someway.  A little bit here and there.  I think for Lyla, her thoughts were all new for her but for Beck though, he’s been around girls before so I expected him to slowly show some interest- besides thinking!  When it was time to move along it was cute to see Lyla and Beck get to the next step.

Hope was so dangerous. It beckoned to me now, whispering to just let go with the guy whose breath was warming my neck. Be bold. Twist my face a couple inches so that our lips met. But if I jumped and discovered no safety net waited for me at the bottom, I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to get back up.

That next step is when I started to loose focus. Not them, but the extra added storyline. The last 20% I skimmed and skipped a lot. I found I wasn’t interested in this part of the story.

**Imperfect Truth by Ava Harrison Cover Reveal**

I’m a blogger. He’s a writer.
He was my weakness.
I was his muse.
Once upon a time my marriage was built on love…
Until it wasn’t.
Where had we gone wrong?
I had given up hope…
But then he messaged me,
And his words intoxicated me.
Made me believe in love again.
Made me believe in truth.
My imperfect truth…

The Beginning…
I don’t remember the last time I could truly say I loved my husband. To be completely frank, I believe it was before we even got married. You can hate me for this, but until you’ve walked a mile in my shoes you will never really know why I’ve done the things I’ve done.
Often I stare at him from across the room and repulsion courses through my veins, a feeling of dread, that this is what my life has become. I wonder why I can’t just leave him. Why I can’t find the strength to love myself enough and simply be happy.
Was my life pleasant before I met him? Was I content? What’s missing now? I’m pretty sure I’ve never truly been happy. I’ve always struggled to find where I belong, but how can I belong somewhere when I don’t fit anywhere?
Sometimes I find myself picking a fight with him just so he will talk to me. All I want is a little attention from him. Good or bad.
It’s sick.
I know.
But living in the land of indifference has changed me. I reside here day and night until the moment I snap from his indifference. Then I lash out, rebel against what has become this norm. Although it’s not right, the reprieve from the emptiness when we argue is welcome.
If I left, would he follow me?
Would he fight?
Would he even notice?

I thought the worst was behind us, but what if we’d just delayed the inevitable?

They say love can overcome any obstacle. But can it survive death?

The breathtaking love story of Lailah and Jude concludes in Beyond These Walls.

Beth's Review

4.5 stars

What started out as a simple friendship within the walls of a quiet hospital had blossomed into a love so unlike anything I could have ever imagined

WOW, JL Berg has done it again in writing this beautiful and touching story.   She has made me stop and truly take a look at my own life, making me put all of the little things in life really into perspective. JL Berg fist did this very thing to me with Within These Walls and somehow and has did it again with Beyond These Walls.  Seeing life and the day to day normal things, the things we take for granted, through Lailah’s perspective really makes me see life in such a different and whole new light, a much clearer one, one that I appreciate more now because of both these books.

When given a second chance, you shouldn’t fade into the background. Rather, you should explode like a rainbow of colors dripping down a canvas

Beyond These Walls is an absolute beautiful conclusion to Lailah and Jude’s story who we first meet in Within These Walls where. This book picks right up where we left off in the first one where Jude has taken Lailah to Ireland and proposed to her and they are now planning for their big December wedding while they are living in New York, Lailah still going to college and Jude running his family business. Life is perfect, Lailah’s health, although it will always be an issue they have to keep an eye on, it is doing great, she is living a normal life checking off items of her list. But all that can change in an instant and both Lailah and Jude realize that and at times are silently waiting for the other shoe to drop. When things suddenly change, Lailah and Jude are left on opposite sides and their love and their commitment to each other will be tested greatly but will their love survive it and what if Jude saving Lailah only delayed fate a little bit longer.

”I love you, more than anything in this world, Lailah, and as you can see, I would give you anything to make you happy…but not this. Please don’t ask this of me.”

Jude was such a broken man in Within these Walls after losing his fiancé in a terrible accident. Meeting Lailah changed everything, she healed his broken heart and saved him from the dark place he had spiraled to. IN Beyond these Walls, we get to see the Jude we first fell in love with but we see him become the man he was meant to be, the amazing, thoughtful and loving husband but also the smart and powerful business man that saved his family’s company. Jude was Lailah’s white knight who came riding in with chocolate pudding cups and stole all our hearts. But Jude whether he was a hospital orderly or a billionaire CEO, he always remained to be just Jude, the man who made it his life’s goal to spend the rest of his life making his wife happy any way he could and to appreciate every second he got to spend with her.

”But don’t let the world change you. Change the world, Lailah”

Lailah was such an amazingly strong heroine in both of these books. Lailah lived a life mostly inside a hospital room or her bedroom living only have a life, never being able to do all that she wanted. But rather than give up, she dreamed of a normal life and made her list of all the things she was going to do when her life one day did become normal. She was a person that truly appreciated everything and everyone in life and even after finally getting to live a full normal life, she never that change her, still appreciating to be have the ability to do the simplest things in life even the she had and amazing amount of wealth now thrown at her. She never took anything thing for granted and she never gave up, no matter what the fight. She truly was one who made a difference in the world and her character’s outlook on life truly made me stop and take a look at my own. And last I must say I loved the special bond she had with Roman, she saw the good in him and it seemed that she brought it out of him. The author has really intrigued me in his character by doing this and must say I find myself wanting to know his story and very excited to know we will get it.

I loved my life and the constant amazement of it all. I would always be that girl who loved taking taxis just for the thrill of it and who never stopped looking at the ocean because it was too beautiful to turn away

This book was such an amazing conclusion to Lailah and Jude’s story, I am so glad the author didn’t finish their story where it ended in Within These Walls and that we get to see the next chapter in their life, seeing them as a married couple but also see them still dealing with Lailah’s health issues that will never truly go away, and how they adjust to it all trying to live a normal life in New York. I must say that going into this I was apprehensive about reading this book, I knew it was going to be so emotional and at the end of Within These Walls we were left in a good place with their story and it did feel complete. These two went through so much heartache, both before they met and after they fell in love, I just didn’t know if my heart could take anymore, I wanted to stay in that little happy bubble with Lailah after Jude proposed to her in Ireland, they deserved to have their fairytale and live happily ever after. But I stepped out of my bubble because I needed to know, I needed to once again feel the amazing connection and love these two shared and I must say I must say the author didn’t disappoint. Even as emotional as this story was, I loved being sucked into this book and feeling the love these shared, which seemed to only grow even more with time, and to see them not take a second they shared for granted. I loved their outlook on life. I loved that he continued over and over again to check items off her list, and that they stayed grounded to who they were when they first met, even with all that they now had. The story was written so well and I couldn’t help but connect with both of them to the point I felt every emotion they felt as if they were a close friend part of my life.

Overall I loved the story the author told in this book, it was an amazing read. Although I must say I that in the second half I found myself wanting more story, I found the time passage to be too quick and would have loved to see more of what was happening along the way, rather than have weeks pass in between chapters it felt rushed at times, especially the last several chapters.   We got more of the slow time passage and detail in the first half leading up to the wedding and I did enjoy it but would have rather less here and more focus on all that took place after the wedding.

”Love isn’t about perfection. It’s a beautiful chaotic mess, and there isn’t anyone I’d rather spend my life with than you.”

Josie's review

4.5 stars

Shattered Lies is a Trilogy and not standalones, you need to read The Unraveling of Raven and Darkness into Dawn before reading this review and book.

Shattered Lies is the 3rd and final book in this series, I can’t believe this is it. I have fallen in love with this series, characters and this magnificent story. Theresa has kept the flow of the story line steady and it’s been intense. In this final book, Raven and Jaxson have shown so much growth and their love and faith is stronger. The author writes this story in several POV’s. Some might think this is too much but for me it worked. Every character plays a role in this story and getting their thoughts made things easier to follow and identify with them. However true to form the author keeps readers on the edge of their seats with so many secrets, twists and turns and unknown danger.

Shattered Lies start off where the 2nd ended. Jason, Maxwell and Bella are all stunned with Anwan’s revelations. Bella, Jaxson’s sister needs to know the truth. She is determined to go to the original source with or without Jaxson and Maxwell. Bella’s determination to seek out the truth means Jaxson will need to make sure security is tight not only for his wife Raven but also their newborn child and the rest of the family.

Jaxson is the best, he is protective, caring and loving. He has finally gotten what he never dreamed possible, something that he never knew he wanted – his own family a beautiful wife and a daughter. Jaxson is scared to leave Raven and Antonia behind because there is still a very credible threat against Raven. If he leaves without them he does not know how long he will be gone, which means he will lose time away from his newborn daughter.

Raven is as strong and fierce as ever. She knows Jaxson needs to seek out the answers his sister and family so desperately need. It kills Raven to see Jaxson going through all this chaos. Instead of being needy she is supportive and reassuring. Raven becomes Jaxson’s voice of reason, his strongest supporter. She will do and go wherever Jaxson needs her to go if it will bring the peace and knowledge they so desperately seek.

Maxwell and Jackie are the best friends of Jaxson and Raven. Jackie’s character for me was not as strong as I would have liked to be. She kept things bottled up and is wasn’t honest about her feelings with Maxwell. I loved Maxwell. His was loyal, fierce and a fighter who never backed down from a challenge.

Despite all their plans, forces that refuse to go away want revenge. They were willing to go to great lengths to make Raven suffer the way they did. Raven is no longer alone. She has her mother Rose and she is willing to sacrifice her life to make sure her daughter and granddaughter are safe. Rose and Raven have been fighting the devil for years that kept them apart and has killed people they love. Jaxson is focused on finding out the truths his mother has locked away for years that he falters while trying to protect Raven and this could cost him everything he holds dear.

What can I say that I have not already said about this series. It is filled with danger, threats, surprises and twists and turns. Just when I thought things were somewhat under control something else would pop up. This read for me was longer than the first 2 books. You can tell the author took her time to end this trilogy perfectly. All my questions were answered. When things start to finally fall into place, or shall I say the climax, I felt it in my bones. The author kept me engrossed in this marvelous story and I wanted more and more. Even when the SH*T was hitting the fan I just knew things would come together somehow. Someone will make a crucial sacrifice to end the devil’s need for revenge, who will it be? Loyalties are tested and new relationships are formed. Read this book and find out how it all ends for this family.

WOW, what another fabulous hot hockey hunk from Elle Kennedy. I absolutely fell in love with Garrett in The Deal, so when I saw that the author was writing Logan’s story I was so excited that I have been pretty much counting down the days until we got him.

John Logan is a junior at Briar university and one of their star hockey players. He is living the life, drinking, partying and having a different girl every night. But it’s all just a distraction, from his best friend’s girl, Hannah, who he can’t stop thinking about and from the life that is waiting for upon graduation. One night by accident he knocks on the wrong door and ends up meeting a freshman, Grace Ivers, who becomes his newest distraction until he realizes it and feels bad about that fact. He ends up making a mistake that only pushes her away. Too late he realizes that she really wasn’t just a distraction and what his real issue was with Hannah.   Grace almost made her own mistake by giving Logan her V-card but is now back for her sophomore year and she’s not the same person she was her freshman year. Logan wants her back and she’s going to make him work for her forgiveness.

I really loved Logan’s character, he was a typical jock, a man-whore who liked to party. But what most didn’t see, was that behind the jock who liked to party and have a good time, Logan was a really great guy, a guy who had the ability to have a great future in hockey but due to his family situation and a deal he made with his brother, he was having to give up that dream. He was also a guy that was confused, who couldn’t see what he really wanted and thought what he wanted was Hannah. And when he realized what he wanted was Grace, he was going to do anything he could to get her back, she was his “ONE”. I loved that he was the typical Alpha jock but he also had that caring sweet side and he wasn’t afraid to show, even though he took a lot of ribbing for it from his fellow teammates. I loved how thoughtful he was, even just after meeting Grace, when she was the focus of an attack by a bunch of childish and jealous girls, he came to her rescue, and from that moment on I was totally swooning over him.

I really loved Grace and I loved seeing her character evolve from her freshman year to her senior year, she was such a great heroine. She met Logan and was so meek and mild. She always took a back seat to Ramona, her life long friend, she was always the good friend who went along with everyone else. After both Ramona and Logan made mistakes that really hurt her, she had gone off to spend the summer in Paris with her mom and came back a different person. She was her own person, she wasn’t going to be the pushover anymore and I loved seeing her evolve into this. She forgave them both but she made them work for her trust and to win her back and that really spoke to how much her character had changed and I really loved that she did. She really liked Logan and she knew she was going to let him back into her life but she wasn’t going to let him back in easily.

I absolutely loved the storyline and how their relationship played out. It was so different from The Deal in Grace and Logan hookup right away, their chemistry is instant and off the charts but as quick as their casual relationship heated up, it ended just as quick. But as quick as it was, Grace changed him and his ways and he was determined, even many months later to win her back, he wasn’t going to let her get away. I really enjoyed all the hoops she made him jump through before she would go out with him and I loved that he did every one of them. These two were great together, they were hot and sexy but also sweet and funny. It truly was a great mix, and they were not only two people going out, they were friends that could talk about anything and everything.  I loved seeing how their relationship developed, from a causal hookup with great chemistry, to then trying to start over as a couple dating to then so much more. I also really enjoyed some of the storylines that were going on in the background and were entwined with the main storyline. I loved the storyline with her friend Ramona and how from it she finally stood on her own two feet and decided she wouldn’t let anyone make a decision for her again, she became a much stronger person. I also enjoyed the storyline of Logan with his Dad and brother. Both really added more substance to the story so that it wasn’t completely all about the two of them and their relationship but also how the many other things going on around them and those that were close to them all on played a part of their story.

Overall another really fabulous read that I thoroughly enjoyed and could not put down, I devoured it pretty much in one sitting. It was sweet and funny, it was sexy but also has some drama and angst, a great mix of a little bit of everything that along with the great storyline, kept me engaged with the book starting on the first page right to the very end. Elle Kennedy truly knows how to write an amazing book and some really great characters, there are so many in this book that I am truly hoping this is not the end of the series and here’s hoping we will get to see both Dean’s and Tucker’s story and get to see more of both Garrett & Hannah and Grace and Logan, not ready to let them go just yet.

What a really great story that had a different twist to it. I always love a story with a hot hunky suit wearing professional, especially a really sexy lawyer and with having heard great things about the author’s Tangled series I decided I would check this new series out. I have to say I wasn’t completely sure what to expect or how the story would play out after reading the synopsis but I will say I was intrigued. I am not a huge lover of Love Triangles so after reading in the synopsis about him taking his “friend with benefits” to the wedding of his high school sweetheart (who was also the mother of his 10 year old daughter) I wasn’t sure how it would play out but was pleasantly surprised.

Stanton Shaw has known Jenny Munroe for most of his life and has been in love with her just as long. They were high school sweethearts, the perfect couple, he the football jock and her the head cheerleader. They had dreams of what their future looked like but all that changed with 2 blue lines. Jenny not wanting him to give up his dreams of making a life for them convinced him to head off to college to get his law degree. Now 10 years later Jenny and Stanton still love each other but live in separate places while they raise their daughter and have an unconventional and very open relationship. Once again everything changes with the news that Jenny is to be married, not willing to give her up he heads home to fight for what is his. Knowing he will have a hard time keeping his head on straight and keeping his cool he takes his co-worker and good friend (with benefits) Sofia to help him. Sofia is a hard worker lawyer at Stanton’s firm that is driven to make partner and who knows about Stanton and Jenny’s relationship and is okay with enjoying her friendship and it’s “benefits” that she has with Stanton.   The question is what will happen when they both realize there is more to this “friends with benefits” between them.

There truly is nothing better than a great story with a really strong confident heroine and I must say Sophia did not disappoint. Sophia is a hard working woman trying to make a name for herself in a very dominant man’s world and I love how well she holds her own. She beautiful and confident, she knows her assets and she doesn’t have issues using them but best part, her biggest asset is her brain. She’s funny and sassy and she knows what she wants and has no problem going after it. But she also still has that female side that makes her want more than just work and sex, she wants that special someone, and she has found him, only problem is, his heart belongs to someone else.

Stanton Shaw is truly a fabulous book boyfriend. He’s cocky and confident and he’s a smooth talker but he’s good at it. Damn he’s good at anything he does and boy can he make your panties wet. You know he’s all talk and is using charm to win you over but you can’t help but fall under his spell, he’s just that good. His life is perfect, he’s got his high school sweetheart and his daughter still living at home where they grew up and stays in constant contact with. They have an unconventional open relationship, he’s got a great job in the city at a great firm working towards becoming a partner with his great winning streak in court. He’s got great friends, especially one in particular who they have added benefits to the equation the last 6 months. They are perfect together, neither want a relationship, both are career driven and she gives up all control in the bedroom and he is able to let the sexy Alpha side of him out to play. But all that changes when he gets a wedding invitation to the other women in his life, the first women for him to ever love. And at that moment we then get to see a different Stanton, we get to see the Alpha caveman Stanton who is off to Mississippi to lay claim to what is his but we see how passionate he is, the great dad he is to Presley and see a softer side to him but as well we get to see how pig headed and stubborn he truly can be.

This story had two really awesome main characters that I couldn’t help but connect with but it also had so many other great characters that I fell in love with. It was such a great fun group of characters that I can’t wait to see more of, I think this series is going to be a great one read. I loved their co-workers Brent and Jake, they added a lot of fun and humor to the story. I really loved Jenny, she truly loved Stanton but I loved that she was the one to move on and make him wake up. She was such an independent woman, yes she had her family to help her raise her daughter but for them to have the relationship they had over the past 10 years it really spoke to her character. And I loved getting to know both Jenny’s and Stanton’s family, especially Nana, she cracked me up so many times and I loved her at the end!

Overall this was a really fabulous read that I thoroughly enjoyed. The story was told from both Stanton and Sofia’s POV so we got to get in both of their heads and I loved that. The characters and the storyline was so well thought out that the book had a really great flow to it and from the moment I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down and it was over way too soon, I wanted so much more of Stanton and really hope in the coming books we will get to see so much more of him. The book was such a great mix of sweet and sexy, some funny moments but also moment where I was on the edge of my seat biting my nails needing to know what was going to happen. This was my first book by this author but it definitely won’t be my last and after getting a glimpse of Drew Evans, I will definitely be checking that series out next while I wait for the next book in this series.

“You met me right?” I’m Ethan. Late-night drunk –dailer. Complusive ass-groper.  Shameless boob-ogler.  Forever-erect-in-your-your-presence serial masturbator.”

Well before I begin I am going to figure  you have met Ethan.  If not go rectify that immediately!!   At the end of Bad Romeo, we were left saying NOOOOOOO!!! Thankfully this book picks up right where I was screaming. Ethan is standing there letting it all out and Cassie was keeping herself guarded. Basically in this book she is Ethan.

“On a scale of one to wanting to-to-kick-me-the-balls, how much do you hate me for dumping you? Be honest.”

Okay so I was a little bitter with Ethan and maybe I had trust issue with the author.  But I was ready for the roller coaster that is this couple.   What I was shocked with in this book was how much Ethan has changed he was so open and yet he still had that thing about him I loved in book 1.  He so serious in this book and so willing to show Cassie his heart.  I don’t know some how Ethan became…

Ethan. Bastard Ethan.  Beautiful Ethan.  My Ethan.  Forever Mine
I LOVE HIM!! This book is told in Cassie’s POV and we jump once again from present to past.  But we do get some of Ethan’s POV so it made it interesting.  I loved the journal entries, I loved knowing what Ethan was thinking.  I loved watching Cass come to terms with things and face the past.  Bad Romeo and Broken Juliet together are unlike any love story I have read, it is one that completely moves you and gives you such a deep connection with the characters.  I loved that even with all the intensity it still gave me moments where I was laughing out loud and it also had the ability to have me wanting to flip to the end and find out what was going to happen because I just needed to know and FYI I didn’t cheat.

This book left me with a complete sense of complete, I was happy and everything I wanted answers to I had.

“There is beauty born from tragedy.  Look at these precious fault line of experience.”

Writing has always been a passion for Leisa, and even though she originally intended to be an actress, it wasn’t long into her time at drama school that she began writing plays.

Those plays were bad. Very bad. Well, her friends thought they were good, but that’s because they were always cast in them and any opportunity to be on stage was met with an obnoxious amount of enthusiasm.

Since then, she’s honed her craft, and several of her plays have been produced and toured throughout Australia.

These days, playwriting has given way to fiction writing, and Leisa’s debut novel, BAD ROMEO, will be available in a worldwide release through Macmillan Publishing in December 2014.

Leisa lives in Australia with her husband, two little boys, three cats, and a kangaroo named Howard.

(Howard may or may not be her imaginary marsupial friend. Everyone should have one.)
