Racing The Sun by Karina Halle Release Day Launch & Giveaway

From the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of Where Sea Meets Sky comes a new adult novel about a young woman who becomes a nanny in Capri and falls for her charges’ bad-boy brother.

When I’m traveling, I feel like the secret to my life, to myself, to really becoming, is one step ahead. It’s in the next destination, the next town I get lost in, the next stranger I talk to. It’s always next but never here . . .

After six months of backpacking and soul-searching across the world, Amber MacLean is flat broke. There are worse places for a twentysomething to be stuck than the Amalfi Coast, but the only way she can earn enough money for a plane ticket home to California is to teach English to two of the brattiest children she has ever met.

It doesn’t help that the children are under the care of their brooding older brother, ex-motorcycle racer Desiderio Larosa. Darkly handsome and oh-so-mysterious, the young master of the crumbling villa tests Amber’s patience and will at every turn—not to mention her hormones.

When her position turns into a full-time nanny gig, Amber grows dangerously closer to the enigmatic recluse. But can she give up the certainty of home for someone whose closely guarded heart feels a world apart from her own?

Beth's Review

3.5 stars

I am new to Lauren Layne as Frisk Me was my first book that I read by her but the synopsis caught my eye and must say I am a sucker for a man in a uniform. So when I read that this was a new series about a family of brothers all police officers, I knew I had to check it out and I am really glad I did, it was a well written story that was a great mix of sweet yet sexy with a great cast of characters that I can’t wait to read more of.

Luc Moretti is the youngest of 5 siblings, 3 brothers and 1 sister and comes from a family of cops, his father a retired police officer and his three older brothers all police officers so being a police officer as well is just part of the family business. But what most don’t know about him is that he currently struggles with a few aspects of his job, first that he recently saved a young girl and is now the latest media frenzy and the subject of a 3 hour TV special but also that two years ago he lost his partner as well as a little girl that was kidnapped and bother were killed by the suspected kidnapper. He doesn’t want the fame, he just wants to do what he loves, being a cop that serves and protects people. And after watching his partner die, leaving a wife and child behind to grieve, Luc has sworn of relationships and any thought of marriage, he refuses to do that to a woman. All that changes when TV report Ava Simms walks into his life and he gets to spend the next two months having her follow him around to gather info for the TV special. These two are instantly at odds, having already met once before 3 years prior, but the attraction and chemistry is instantly felt between these two. As these two start to spend more time together, especially after hours, getting to know each other, they soon realize they can no longer fight the attraction and both agree to a no strings relationship. But Luc is hiding his past from her in hopes it doesn’t come out and Ava knows there is more to the story of Mike’s past partner.

I really loved Luc, he was hot and sexy and a little gruff around the edges but when he showed his true self, he was sweet and caring and a true family man that had a heart of gold. Luc was also a man that loved his job, he took is seriously, never crossing the line and did his job well. But he was also an officer that was left with guilt and remorse for the loss of his partner and a little girl that has left him questioning what he did that day 2 years ago.

Ava was sweet yet sassy and I loved her. She was a great character that was trying so hard to be something she wasn’t, the dressed to the nines, 4 inch stilletto’s wanna-be anchorwoman but deep down in her heart she was just the sweet and down to earth girl who loved her flip flops and yoga pant. And I must say I loved who she was when her and Luc were together, they made such a great couple. I loved what each brought out in the other person. Also the attraction between them was instant and it slowly built up so when these two finally came together they were off the charts hot.

Overall I enjoyed the story and how it played out, it had a great level of drama that wasn’t overdone and kept me engaged in the story. I really loved the cast of characters in this story and really looking forward to more of them all throughout this series. I absolutely loved Nonna, she was an absolute hoot, everyone needs a grandmother like her. And I really enjoyed Luc’s parents and siblings, getting to see them interact with each other at family dinners. They gave each other a hard time but deep down they loved each other immensely and had each other backs. The whole Moretti family truly added so much depth and fun to the story that I can’t imagine what the story would have been like without them. The story was written in third person POV and I really enjoyed the writing, just found it took me a bit to get into the story and get connected with the characters. The only other thing I found is that the first half fell a little flat at times for me and found the pace to be a bit slow. I understand that the storyline and the relationship needs to time to build, and part of it may have been it taking me a bit of time to connect with it being in third person, I just found at times the pace to be a bit too slow for my liking. As I approached the 40% mark and after that point, I found the storyline to really pick up and move at a much better pace and really keep me engaged in it. It was a really enjoyable read and must say at times a very hot and sexy one as well and I am definitely looking forward to more of these hot and sexy Moretti brothers and the Moretti family. Can’t wait till Anthony’s story and hope we will get the rest of the clan’s stories including Elena.

Pandemic Sorrow Series on Tour
(all 3 books are available individually or in a box set)
Genre: Contemporary Romance
by Stevie J Cole

Pandemic Sorrow are on Tour.

Oh Boy this is going to get messy!

Jag & Rush are taking the band on tour they will be sharing their sex crazed and downright dirty life with you all.

The life of a rock star is dirty but someone has to do it.

Start with Jag Steele. the lead singer and guitarist of the band Pandemic Sorrow, and he has a drug problem.

He’s Famous, a rock star, a legend, drug addict & womanizing man-whore.

Then there is Rush, it’s his job to play music that makes girls wet, and then to screw a select few of them.

He is a professional rocker. He’s rich, famous and one lucky son-of-a-bitch. He has everything – except control.

Come and meet the band if you are brave enough ladies in this exclusive interview:

Interview written exclusively for the Blog Tour

Stevie J. Cole on what it would be like to interview Pandemic Sorrow.

“They’ll be in a few minutes, Tiff. You ready?”

I nod and smile. “Yeah.” Shit. I’m nervous.

Todd opens the door to the conference room but stops to look back at me. “They’re a lot to handle. Just don’t….provoke them or anything.”

“Provoke them, what are they freaking rabid animals?” I laugh.

His gaze trails down to my chest, and his lips lay flat across his face. “No, that’s enough to provoke them. Might want to pull that up a little.”

I huff, and Todd walks out the door. Muffled voices filter through the other side of the door, laughter. Shit. Shit. Shit. I’ve interviewed countless rockers since starting at this magazine company, and I have never been this anxious. I mean, hell, it’s Pandemic Sorrow. Jag Steele, Stone Steele, Rush…and that drummer whose name I can’t ever remember. Jack, Travis…Pax!

The door swings open and my breathing ceases for a second.  Jag struts in. I have never in my life seen a man with so much swagger. He’s dressed in a tight black v-neck, jewelry draped all over him, and his jeans—my eyes instinctually fall to his crotch—holy shit, those pants are tight.

I‘m so focused on how tight Jag’s pants are that I completely miss the other guys trail in and take their seats.

“It’s real, wanna touch it?” Jag chuckles and I feel my entire face redden.

“Ah, no. Nice gesture and all.”

He shrugs and yanks out his chair, turning it around as he adjusts his junk before straddling it.

I sit, staring around the room. I realize I must look like a complete idiot, and I clear my throat. “So, let’s start with a simple question for each of you. What was the driving force behind your pursuit to fame?

Jag’s lips curve in to a delicious smile. “Pussy. Lots of pussy.”

Rush laughs as he leans over the table toward me. “For me,” his eyes skim down to my low cut top, “the promise of nightly orgies.”

Oh, fuck. I am in for it. I need to divert my attention away from these two whores. Where’s that drummer? I eye Pax, who’s not even looking in my direction. His chin is slumped to his chest, and all I can see is his spikey blonde hair. I think he’s asleep.

“Uh, Pax?” He slowly raises his head. “What drove you to fame?”

“I dunno, money?

“I actually have a worthwhile answer, unlike these shitheads.” Stone taps his fingers on the table. “I wanted to do something everyone told me I couldn’t.

I can’t stop the ridiculous smile making its way over my lips. Damn, Stone is hot. Those brown eyes, those cheekbones, that hair. I’m swooning, not going to lie. “Okay, next question is for Rush. Rush, if you had to be something besides a rock star, what would it be?

“Oh, that’s easy.” He stands up, grabs the edge of the table and pelvic thrusts against it so hard it scoots an inch across the floor. “Hands down, a porn star. James Deen can go fuck himself because his measly nine inches don’t have shit on my man-cock.” He laughs as he collapses back down in his chair.

I giggle, and his face goes all serious.

“No, really. A porn star.”

Jag shoves him so hard he knocks him out of his chair. “Rush, you couldn’t be a porn star. You don’t have any fucking stamina.”

“I’ve got loads of stamina.”

“Like shit you do—”

“Hey!” I shout. They both turn to look at me, and for a moment, I’m afraid I just really pissed them off. I timidly clear my throat. “Next question. Stone, what’s it like working with your brother?”

He smirks. “I mean, when I’m not babysitting his ass, it’s tolerable.”

Jag is too busy making lewd hand motions at Rush to be offended by that, so I go on to the next question on my list. “So, guys, what’s it like to be Pandemic Sorrow? It must be incredible to be so famous?

Pax shrugs as he mumbles, “It’s cool.”

Rush tosses his hands in the air. “Fucking amazing! Are you kidding me?” He shakes his head as he grins. “I can’t even explain to you how amazing this shit is. I keep thinking I’m going to wake up and find out I’ve been in a coma or something, and that I’m still just fucking up drive-thru orders at Burger Boy.”

“Yeah, it’s pretty awesome.” Stone nods. “Surreal. That may be the best word. It’s surreal. It’s weird to be flipping through the radio and hear your song on there. Sometimes, I don’t even feel like I am that dude.”

I smile politely. I love all of his down to earth comments. Unlike the other perverts in this room, he seems so adorably sweet. I glance over at Jag. It seems like he has checked out momentarily. He’s staring down at his hands as he fidgets with one of the rings on his finger. “Jag, what about you. What’s it like to be so famous?”

He glances up at me, his face completely void of any emotion. “Oh, uh. It’s great. Really.” Pausing, he wipes his hands down the legs of his jeans. “You know, paparazzi following you around, so you can’t even shake your dick without it making a headline. Always a party, always a show, always fans screaming at you. Yep. Couldn’t be better.”

That didn’t seem authentic in the least. Honestly, he looks miserable. What do I say to that? Nodding, I say, “I can’t imagine. It must be tiring.”

There’s an awkward silence. I flip through my tablet and find the next question. “So, we had some fans write in with questions they wanted you guys to answer. One fan asked that each of you describe your perfect mate.” I look over at Rush. “Why don’t you go first since you want to be the porn star and all?”

His lips curl, his eyes twinkle, and then he smirks. “A girl that likes company in the bed. Kinda like—” He narrows his gaze on me as he arches a brow. “You gonna publish all the stuff I say, right?”

“Yeah, unless you ask me not to.”

“Oh, no. I want this in there more than anything else I’m gonna say.” He clears his throat, smiling proudly. “A complete freak, kinda like I imagine Jules would be. She’s our assistant manager. We all know she likes being treated like a dirty slut.”

“Uh, Rush, you probably shouldn’t—“

“Oh, no, she expects shit like this. Seriously though, I need a freak.”

Jag groans. “Yeah, sure, Tink looks like a freak. Rush, she looks like she’d be a damn lame lay.” He leans over the table as he thumbs his lip piercing. “I need a girl that would put me in my place every once and a while.”

“That’s a good answer, Jag.” I turn to Stone and my cheeks heat. “What about you?”

“Honestly, I can’t even think about that. I’m so consumed with my career, I know I would be a shitty boyfriend, but I do like short girls.”

Yep, swooning again. “Pax, what about you?”

He shrugs. God, he has no personality whatsoever. “Oh, just give me a girl that hasn’t been rammed by these three fuckers and I would be good.”

Jag flips him the bird. “Fuck off, Paxton.”

“You sick of sloppy seconds, drummer boy?” Rush asks as he shoves him.

Pax swats Rush’s hand away. “Fuck you dick dribbles, don’t get all pissy just because I didn’t want to join in for your orgy last night,” he shouts.  “I don’t like slapping dicks with you sick fucks.”

I can feel my jaw hanging open. They are arguing with each other; yelling, cursing.

The next thing I know, Stone is waving his hand in the air to get my attention. “Tiffany?” He whistles.

I glance over at him, and he is sitting there so relaxed like none of this phases him. He smiles sweetly at me. “I assure you, none of them know how to use their dicks the way I do.”

Oh, hell. Compose yourself, boo. I think I’m getting sweat stains under my arms! Oh, crap! I hear a loud bang. Jag just threw Pax on the floor, and Rush is laughing. This is a disaster. Smile, smile…

Stone stands and walks over to me. “They’ll knock each other out eventually. And while they are…” he swats a stray piece of hair from my face. “Why don’t I go knock the fuck outta you?”

I shouldn’t, I know I shouldn’t, but this is Stone Steele. I take another quick look at the three guys rolling around on the floor, then eye the door.

“Come on, you pretty little thing.” Stone barely touches his warm lips to mine before pulling me toward the door.

I am most likely going to get fired from the magazine now, but I don’t really care. I mean, who in their right mind would turn this guy down?

Jag (Pandemic Sorrow #1)

WARNING: This novel contains explicit language, sexual situations, and is the story of an addict. This material is intended for a mature audience.

“My name’s Jag Steele. I’m the lead singer and guitarist to the band Pandemic Sorrow, and I have a drug problem. Well, I mean it’s not really a problem – unless you count the fact that I almost made my heart explode from all the blow I shoved up my nose a few weeks back…”

That was my introduction during my first stint in rehab. I’m messed up. If you asked anybody who I am there’s a list they will go down: Famous, rock star, legend, drug addict, womanizing man-whore, but if you asked me, I wouldn’t have the first idea of what to say, because I don’t know who Jag Steele is. Really, I’m living every other damn person’s dream, and all I want is reality.

Roxy Slade, that girl was my reality. My brutally flawed and beautifully broken reality. And she hated everything I stood for. To her I was just one of “those guys”, and she’d rather be buried alive with poisonous snakes than give someone like me a piece of toilet paper to wipe their ass with. Brutal. Life. Is. Brutal. And it is just a giant pain, which is why I chase after anything to make it numb, anything that can fill this void. I just want anything that can make me not feel. I just don’t want to feel.

Rush (Pandemic Sorrow #2)

It’s my job to play music, to make girls wet, and then to screw a select few of them. I’m a professional rocker. I’m rich, I’m famous, I’m one lucky son-of-a-bitch. I have everything – except control.

The industry owns me. And the only thing I have a minuscule grain of control with is women, but not that dominate, tie you up and gag you kind of control. No, I want to govern how I make them feel. I need them to feel like a goddess while I’m in them, and I love being able to control the fact that they’ll never really have me. Love is complicated. It is bullshit. And even if I thought I needed it, the rules of being a rocker won’t allow it.

Sex is all I need.

I don’t need love.

But for some reason I want her. For some reason I can’t get her out of my mind. And lately, every time I’m with any girl besides her it feels wrong.

I can practically have any woman I want, but I can’t have her. She’s off limits because she’s part of that industry that owns my ass.

Sex was all I had.

And sometimes I thought maybe love was all I needed…with her

Rush (Pandemic Sorrow #2)

Roxy (Pandemic Sorrow #3)

My life had been no fairy tale. Actually, growing up, it had been something more like a nightmare, which is why I ended up so hard. When you don’t want to hurt having the ability to be numb is your best defense mechanism. And for a long time all I was doing was existing.

Jag Steele, the lead singer of the international rock band Pandemic Sorrow, was the epitome of everything I despised: arrogant, entitled, but the thing I hated most about him was that he was an addict. Drugs had been the demon that had ruined everything in my life, and anyone who had a love affair with them pretty much made my stomach turn. It brought up memories I wanted to stay buried. Needless to say, I wasn’t exactly a fan of Jag.

Funny thing is, people aren’t always who you expect them to be. Never in a million years would I have thought the night I meet Jag would have any significance on the rest of my life, but it did.

I found out that sometimes something that screams utter destruction might actually be your saving grace.

Some people may say our story is too screwed up to be a romance, but for two broken people, we made the pieces fit together perfectly.

Jodie's review4.5 stars

“It should be clear that life is not pretty, that love is not always kind, and that the kind of romance that is shoved down our throats is a crock of shit.”

I am all about the Rock star life style, the ugliness of it, the ability they have to captivate you with every bad boy word they say. This book was no different but to me this was Rock star without the light fun. THIS WAS REAL, it was dark and honestly it was shattering.   I think this was my first true glimpse into what they really feel.

“In fact, this may not even be romance because it is raw, it is ugly, and it will make you hurt, but that’s what makes it beautiful.”

Roxy had such a bad life growing up, she literally was handed when of the worst cards I have ever read.  I don’t know a single woman that wouldn’t have a wall up after knowing her back story.  She is an individual that has witnessed drugs and its power it can take over your life.  She wasn’t a stranger to the reality of the world, the dark reality that so many think is only written in movies or books.

“Addiction. It is ugly. It is hard. And it ruins lives.”

Jag Steele  is a lot of things and all of them scream Rock star dream.

“Jag Steele was a fucking rock god. He looked like a rock god, he talked like a rock god.”

He is everything I love to hate and love to love. He is arrogant, cocky, damaged, confident but as layers where taken away I fell in love with the man he was off stage. And when that man meets Roxy OMG What can I say…

“As they like to say in romance novels, I had come undone, but in a way that pretty much was unraveling each last piece of my being.”

I fell more in love with this story the more I got into the relationship.  The more I read, the more this book became real.  There was so much pain, so much brokenness .   This is a book that proves sometimes you have to fight and sometimes you have to walk away.  This story isn’t perfect there are things that are repetitive and there are parts that I felt myself skimming.  But as a whole …

“This is a raw, gritty, very real fairy tale. It may not be perfect, but it is fucking beautiful.”

Josie's review

4.5 stars

For the Love of Ash is such an emotional and uplifting story. Ms. Lavati has written a book that has very strong characters and it is well paced. I love it when you can tell that the author researched and created this story methodically. The details and build up were perfectly written. I was completely entertained and engrossed in this book and did not want to stop reading. I laughed, cried and screamed throughout this book, the struggles of these 3 characters are heart felt and believable.

Maggie is a character that I was so proud and inspired by. She and her 9 year old bother, Asher lost both their parents in a car accident. Maggie did not want to lose her brother so she stepped up to the plate to become his guardian. Let me explain my love for this young woman, it cannot be easy to be a sister one day and become a mother the next.   She puts his needs before herself, takes care of him and makes sure he has a stable, strong and loving environment. She has times when she feels that she is not good at parenting but she never gives up and rises to the occasion. It is not easy for a young woman to take care of a young boy, the house, bills and herself but she never once complained. Asher was her life. Maggie no longer dates, her main goal is Asher and giving him a better life. Let me say it is not easy for her especially when she has a crazy grandma on her back, constantly trying to tear her down.

Luke is character that at first comes off as conceded and cocky, but that changes. He recently become the PE teacher at Asher’s school and is his teacher. Luke is also attending college and has a class with Maggie. As soon as they meet Luke sees something in Maggie that he wants. Luke’s character is nothing at all what I thought. Luke and his siblings live in a very violent home, he wants to protect them from their abusive fathers so instead of being on his own he stays home. I found that such an admirable and selfless quality. Luke has so many inner issues. He and his siblings have an amazing relationship, they support each other and help out when they need it.

Luke’s and Maggie’s relationship is a slow build up. Maggie is very cautious with her heart and what man will enter Asher’s life. Luke was relentless, he sees Maggie as a strong, funny and independent beautiful woman and wants to be a part of her and Asher’s life. For me the friendship and build up made me fall in love with them as a couple. It did not feel rushed or forced, it just felt natural. I really loved Luke’s relationship and connection with Asher.

For the Love of Ash is not your classic romance novel, it is much more. The book deals with issues such as child abuse, anger management, how to become a parent when you are young yourself, how to deal with the loss of parents and how much a person can and will sacrifice for love and family. Real life issues affect them and they have to find a way to navigate through them al. We all know how life has its way of surprising you. The books most redeeming points for me was the development of these great characters and how they genuinely matured and adjusted throughout the book. Another bonus for me was the epilogue, it was brilliantly written and gave readers everything that they would want to know later on in these characters lives.

The blood of their enemies coats the leather of their cuts and a trail of bodies lie in their wake, but the Forsaken Motorcycle Club isn’t done yet. Carlo Mancuso still needs to pay for his sins. Nobody knows that more than Ian Buckley, the Treasurer for Forsaken.

Ian prefers his pleasure mixed with pain and he’s only ever at peace when he’s doling out justice. Convinced that he’s too unstable and sadistic to take an old lady, he keeps his trysts, like all of his relationships, brief and anonymous. But with his club at war, and the stakes being so personal, Ian’s feeling the events around him more deeply than he expects.

Mindy Mercer is the sweet daughter of Fort Bragg’s most respectable cop. At least that’s how the town sees her. Very few people know the Mindy who hides her tracks and battles her cravings by lying to everyone around her. She thinks she has control of her addiction until she suffers an attack that leaves her searching for a way out of her own personal hell.

Mindy has never been more desperately in need of a savior and Ian has never seen a more beautifully destroyed creature in his life. Their attraction is intense, but their damage is extreme. Some scars never heal, and some people never get better.

Please make sure you read all the Bayonet Scars books prior to this review, it might have some spoilers and you will want to have Mindy’s back story.

I loved this book! Hands down Burn is the best one to date. If you have kept up with this series you know then you know that this story will be a very powerful, dark, and intense read. The story and characters will grip at your heart and have you completely engulfed with in the story. I am a huge fan of this author and I have read all of her work. She has a way of writing stories where I find myself completely connected with the characters and the words that she uses to describe scenes and events, just completely memorizes me. I feel as though I am right there in the story. Ian and Mindy’s story is not an easy one, it is filled with a lot of pain, anguish, blood, violence and self-pain. Not only is this Ian and Mindy’s heavy and dark road to romance but also the continuation of the Mancuso’s reign of terror.

Mindy’s character and story is one that will stay with me forever. My heart literally broke for her so many times. She was left completely broken and destroyed by a horrific attack. It is hard for her to live day to day with the horrible and graphic memories. Mindy cannot stand to be touched. She has a hard time eating, and even being around people but with Ian it is different. Mindy sees and feels something in Ian. He makes her feel safe. I loved watching her grow throughout the story. She becomes this strong woman who comes to terms with what happened to her. She is determined not to be a VICTIM but a SURVIVOR.

Ian, Ian, Ian – where do I begin with him. Ian is a total badass, hands down. After Mindy’s attack there was something that called to him to protect her. He needed to be there for her. He vowed that he would eliminate anyone or anything that would hurt her or cause her any grief. Ian’s life has not been an easy one. He carries the scar of an attack from the head of the Mancuso family and lives with dark and dangerous demons. He fights his attraction to Mindy because he knows what he is capable of. And let me say he puts up a good fight. I was not prepared for what was revealed. I broke for this young boy and for the man that he is today. He lives his life a certain way and he makes no excuses for it. His life in the club and what he does for Forsaken is something many cannot handle. Ian is a total alpha and dominant man when it comes to Mindy. I mean seriously even when he put distance between them he had this sense of power and control over her – it was so hot!!!

I really loved how deep and intense Ian and Mindy’s connection was and how much they in common. Mindy accepts the darkness in Ian because she too has darkness inside of her and together things are beautiful and full of promise. The danger of the Mancuso family is rearing its ugly head and the members of the Forsaken have the ultimate battle on their hands. The men in the Forsaken will do anything to keep their women safe and the club intact, but is it enough? The ultimate battle is fast approaching, with traitors in their midst will the members of the Forsaken survive? Can Ian and Mindy make peace with this darkness and find light? This is one book you don’t want to miss out.

“I like talking to you. I want to get to know you.”

“What’s the point in getting to know me when you’re just going to end up hating me eventually, anyway?” This is why I don’t want to bond with her. I don’t want to let her in and to love her the way Ma does, the way Michael does. Even Ryan loves her and I’ll be damned if Pop doesn’t love her too. She’s squirrelly like that.

“I can’t hate you. If I can’t hate my father, then I can’t hate you either. I won’t ask you not to hurt him, and I can’t tell you how I’ll feel when he dies because I don’t know how I’ll feel. But I can tell you this— he stole you and my mother from me. My father hurt you, and he hurt me in a different way. He hurt Michael too, but he might be too proud to admit that just yet. Carlo Mancuso has his family and I have mine.”

She takes a step closer and reaches out, grabbing my arm. The tears she was holding back slide down her cheeks as she stares up at me.

“I don’t like violence and I hate to see people get hurt, but no matter who I am today, I was a principessa, a Mancuso. I understand the need for justice and deep down I know that this war goes back further than last year and that it was only a matter of time for my father to get what’s coming to him.”

“I don’t want to hurt you,” I find myself saying. My chest aches and my jaw is tight. I reject the emotions that make me weak and force myself to think about anything but how good it feels to get this gift from her. “Every year on your birthday, we have a party. It used to be just me and Ma, and then when Pop and Ryan came around, they’d join in. It was always just something we did. Ma never wanted to forget either of you, and she made sure I never could. I don’t want to hurt you, but I have to make this better for her.”

Carter POV – Chapter One – Steel and Lace #1

Nikki had been hounding me about this opening for weeks. I knew I couldn’t keep it from her, we’d been fucking for months and as much as I tried to keep her out of my business life, she always managed to weasel her way in. It didn’t matter, showing up with someone was good in a social situation; and Nikki wasn’t a bad date to have. The press made more of an effort to turn up at these events if they thought the beautiful and bitchy supermodel Nikki Vilanova would be on my arm. She was always good for a little drama in the tabloids; not that I liked the drama but I could appreciate the role the press played in my line of work. They’d been following our relationship for a while, if you could even call it that. When she was in town we spent time together, we were never anything more or less. I walked the line with keeping her at a comfortable distance and keeping her happy because she was a great fuck. That had been established the first night we were together.; she was wild and uninhibited and never wore out her welcome. She didn’t require any post-coital cuddling– just the way I preferred it. I had a bedroom attached to my office for late nights that had the added benefit of serving as a fuck pad. She’d asked once or twice for me to take her home, but I’d been able to put her off easily. The truth was, I wasn’t comfortable bringing anyone home. I was wary of who I could trust and wasn’t comfortable inviting them into my house and my life any more than I had to.

Nikki and I had shown up just a few minutes before to the opening of a new boutique on Newbury and it wasn’t long before I was bored out of my skull. Nikki giggled and kept a predatory hand on my forearm as we sipped champagne. My eyes scanned the room for faces I knew and wanted to avoid, and for those that I would need to mingle with tonight. Madeleine would have been my first choice for a date, she was great with these things; she had the ability to direct conversation and knew intuitively when I wasn’t interested in talking to someone. Nikki on the other hand was interested in talking to everyone; she liked to keep as many connections in her back pocket as possible, never knowing when they would come in handy later. I guess at the end of the day I was just another connection for her, albeit one that she fucked when it was convenient.

I tightened my jaw when Nikki’s fingertips trailed up my forearm suggestively. I ignored her intimate gesture and brought the champagne flute to my lips before my gaze settled on a pair of dark green eyes that were focused on mine. Striking, soft, gentle green eyes. My heart rate accelerated and the conversation around me seemed to fall away. The world halted as my eyes focused on the dark-haired beauty staring back at me.

My gaze dropped to the chestnut tendrils framing her beautiful, heart-shaped face. Her full lips were curved in a soft frown as she looked at me. What could she be thinking that would have her frowning at me? Perhaps my reputation had preceded me, it wouldn’t be the first time.

But this girl– I knew I had to meet her, to talk to her, to hear her voice; those lush lips curving around sensual words. I envisioned soft lips locked on my ear lobe, whispering breathless moans along the skin of my neck, hearing her call my name as I sank into her.

Fuck me, this girl is affecting me.

But I knew I was affecting her too. I could see it. She couldn’t break our intense stare down any easier than I could.

Finally the world started to spin again and I arched my eyebrow at her, a silent acknowledgment of the moment that had flared between us. I watched her take a quick breath, her full breasts perfectly outlined in her fitted white dress. Fuck, I wanted to feel them in my hands, suck on them, tease them until her nipples hardened. What color would they be when I coaxed her body into arousal? The same shade as her dark, rosy lips?

Her eyes widened for a moment and then she turned back to her friend and tried to pretend that I hadn’t just swept the air from her lungs.

I had to meet her.

I waited until the party cleared out later that night and Nikki was tied up with someone else. I didn’t know with who and I didn’t care, I was just glad to have her off my back so I could seek out the brunette beauty that I’d been consumed with all night. She’d never been far from my sight. I’d followed her with my eyes, insuring she didn’t leave and watching her mingle. In my perusal, I’d noticed every single server pass her flirty glances as they gave her champagne. Jealously poured through my body when she smiled sweetly back at them. I’d have to call the company that provided the waitstaff and make it known in no uncertain terms that if the servers couldn’t refrain from flirting with the guests, they would no longer be getting my business.

I watched as she spoke to her friend, a smile spreading across her face, her eyes crinkling in the most captivating way. My heart skipped a beat every time she laughed because her entire face lit up and her green eyes danced. I swear that smile had every guy in the room falling at her feet, but I knew intuitively they weren’t her type; they couldn’t make a girl like that happy. And even if I wasn’t her type, I’d make it my mission in life to be.

Fuck if I can’t keep my eyes off her, I’m ruined.

“Great view.” I breathed in her ear as she stood at the windows looking out over Boston Harbor. I wouldn’t know if the view was great or not, all I could think about was running my hands through her hair. Twisting my fingers in it, feeling the silky strands caress my skin. Fuck, my dick’s getting hard just thinking about her hair.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

She spun around and a spray of champagne landed on my herringbone suit. Her burning green eyes traveled up my body. I held my breath as she took me in.

“Oh my God, I am so sorry,” she finally spoke before setting her glass down on a nearby table and digging through the tiny purse she was carrying. My eyes flicked from her flushed face to the liquid dampening the arm of my suit. I frowned for a moment and wondered how I could work with this situation. The thought crossed my mind that I could coerce her into a date in return for spilling on my suit. A smirk played across my lips at the thought.

“It’s alright.” I placed a hand on her arm and fire sparked in my system. Her soft skin beneath mine had the blood pumping through my veins at a punishing pace. She took my fucking breath away and I hadn’t even gotten her dress off yet.

“I’m sorry, I’ll pay to have it cleaned. If you send the bill to me. Here…” She said before she was off digging in her bag again. Fuck that bag. Look at me.

“I’ve got it. Really,” I said as I squeezed her arm reassuringly. My eyes couldn’t help but trail down her curvy body; past her defined waist, her lush hips that I couldn’t stop thinking about digging my fingers into. I imagined those shapely legs wrapped around my hips as I plowed into her soft body. Fuck, my dick grew impossibly harder as my brain shut down.

“Carter Morgan.” I held my hand out to her.

“Evangeline Austin,” she replied as she placed her small hand in mine. I was lost in the swirling green depths of her eyes as we gazed at each other. The world fell away and all that existed in that moment was her hand in mine.

“Hey Eva, are you ready? Everyone who’s anyone has come and gone.” I heard a voice burst our perfect, hypnotic bubble. I didn’t care. I was choosing to block everyone else out. Nothing mattered more in that moment than the beautiful, green-eyed angel whose hand was locked in mine. “Uh… hi, I’m Cate Evans.” The voice at my shoulder intruded on the moment I thought I was having with this girl– Evangeline, Eva. I glanced to see the friend she’d been with all night. Short, blonde, bubbly Cate Evans; my mind registered the name and filed it away for later.

I only nodded at her and then my eyes searched out Evangeline’s again. I couldn’t stay away from her for long. I knew nothing about her and yet I was sure of that. I was consumed with the beautiful, flustered, carefree Evangeline Austin.

“Well Evangeline, despite the fact that you may have ruined my favorite suit, I hope to see you again.” Fuck if that didn’t come out wrong. Here I’d met a beautiful, dark-haired angel and I may have fucked it all up before it’d even begun. I flashed her the confident smirk that generally gets me out of trouble in any given situation and hoped I could rectify the bad impression I’m sure I made on her.

“Ms. Evans.” I addressed her friend before giving Evangeline one last lingering glance. Then I dropped her hand and turned to walk out. I scanned the room for Nikki and saw her drinking with a large group by the bar. Nikki was a party girl in the truest form and tonight wouldn’t be the first time I’d ducked out before midnight while she stayed out ’til dawn.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket as soon as I hit the pavement and found Parker waiting along the curb.

“Mr. Morgan.” Parker nodded as I slid into the backseat.

“Evening, Parker.” I mumbled as I scrolled through the list of contacts on my phone before I found the number I was looking for and hit send.

“Johnson? Find me everything you can on Evangeline Austin and Cate Evans in Boston. May be connected to the fashion industry. It’s time sensitive. Thanks.” I hung up as Parker pulled into the traffic of the Boston night.

Evangeline. She was an angel after all.

Beth's Review

4.5 stars

I am a huge lover of Sawyer Bennett’s hockey hunks and really enjoyed Tenn’s story in Shaken, Not Stirred, so when I heard that Tenn’s brother, Woolf was getting his own story and it included him owning a sex club, I knew I had to check it out. And I am so glad that I did, this was definitely a very hot sexy read.

Upon Tenn and Woolf’s father’s death, left behind is the family cattle and oil business for them to run. As we saw in Shaken, Not Stirred, Tenn had no interest in having any part in it and it is now left for Woolf to run it, but like Tenn he has his own passions and running the family business is not one of them. Knowing it is up to him to run things, he does what is expected but he also decides to follow his passion with his friend Bridger when they decid to build a new bar with a private and exclusive sex club, The Silo, attached. A year late once thins are up and running all is good in Woolf’s life but everything quickly changes the moment he hears that voice talking into the microphone, the voice of his best friend’s sister, the girl who offered up her virginity and he turned down so many years ago. Callie Hayes is back in town trying to start fresh, trying to be the new and improved Callie. But these two quickly realizes that no matter how hard either tries, they are both still very much attracted to the other. Woolf can no longer fight the attraction he has to his best friend’s little sister and finally gives into temptation but he quickly learns that Callie is no longer sweet and innocent Callie he once knew and when she finds out about The Silo she wants to see what it’s all about.

This story was filled with so many great main and supporting characters. I loved that we got to see Tenn again in this story as well as getting introduced to new characters as well, especially his friend and business partner, Bridger. And then there is Woolf, your typical cowboy; hot, sexy and all Alpha male that I must say totally swoon worthy and I thoroughly enjoyed. But at the same time, Woolf was also very caring and loving when it came to Callie, which I totally loved. And the connection he had with Callie was such a strong and I must say totally off the charts hot, when these two were in the same room you could feel the magnetic force between them and you could feel the temperature rise.

I must say when I started out reading this book, I found the story to be very interesting but I did find myself worrying if this was just going to be another book filled with sex and a story would fall away to the sex and fizzles out. To my delight, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the story between these two, both their past and their present, play out in a great way with a good even pace that keep me fully engaged in the story.  And I must add that this book was OMG Holy Hotness, it should really come with a warning of severe panty wetting because the scenes taking place at the sex club and the scenes between these two were amazingly written. They were not over done at all, they were very hot but at the same time, these scenes were filled with passion, desire and even though they didn’t know it first, love and that’s what made it even hotter. The scenes weren’t about two people attracted to each other finding pleasure in each other bodies. It was about two people who knew each other since they were kids but for years never did anything about their feelings because of her brother. But finally one night she decided to act upon the feelings and Woolf couldn’t bring himself to take the virginity of his best friends little sister but was always left wanting and wishing to know what even one kiss would have felt like. Finally that all changed, but so did many other things, especially Woolf’s outlook on life, on The Silo and on the family business.

Overall, this book was a really fabulous hot and sexy read, that had a bit of a second chance love story to it that I absolutely love. Woolf’s and Callie’s story was so well told, giving up glimpses into their past while we watched them once again get to know one another and finally act upon their feelings. It was a great book with sweet and tender moments and very hot and sexy ones that I really enjoyed and I can’t wait to see what the rest of this series will bring.

Never Loved
Dark Obsession # 1

By: Charlotte Stein

Releasing July 21st, 2015

Perfect for fans of Abbi Glines, the first novel in the Dark Obsession series tells the story of a beautiful wallflower who falls for a chiseled street fighter—and learns just how dangerous love can be.

Beatrix Becker spent most of her life under the thumb of her controlling, abusive father. And now that she’s free and attending her dream college, she has no idea how to act like the normal crowd: partying, going on dates, even having a conversation. Then she meets Serge Sorensen. Big and surly with a whole host of riotous tattoos, Serge is supposed to scare the hell out of her. But beneath his harsh exterior, Beatrix discovers a kindred spirit who knows what it’s like to be a misfit. Most exhilarating—and terrifying—is what he does for a living: illegal street fighting.

There’s nothing like the rush Serge gets from the intense athleticism and brutal glory of combat—though his chemistry with Beatrix comes close. Slowly at first, he introduces her to his world, where he lives by instinct, passion, and desire. He even helps her out with her equally traumatized brother. But when Serge gets in too deep with the wrong people, he ends up paying in blood. And suddenly, just as Beatrix has been drawn into Serge’s perfectly sculpted arms, she’s thrown once and for all into the fight of his life.

“I tell you what, girl. How about you hop on, and I’ll take you to where he is.”

Some of the guys around him laugh. Hell, he seems to be laughing a little, too. He even slaps the back of his bike like the punch line to this whole crazy joke—he knows I’m never going to climb up on that thing. Everyone knows I’m not going to climb up on that thing. I’m a soft little kid, in corduroy.

Though for once in my life, I don’t want to be. I want to say yes, just to show him. Just to make up for all the times when I went back to my room and changed and changed and changed until my clothes were suitable, or stayed silent because silence was golden and talking back got you the basement. I don’t have to stay silent here, if I really don’t want to.

But that only makes it more disappointing when my sad little mouth leaks out, “I can’t do that.”

In fact, it’s so disappointing that he seems to catch some of it. He snorts, of course, as though he expected that answer all along. Yet beneath that snort I think I see something else, just sort of drifting around down there. A bitterness, I think, that carries through his otherwise amused and rather withering words.

“Afraid of bikes, huh?”

“Yeah, you could say that.”

“And maybe afraid of me?”

“I’d have to be insane to be anything else.”

“Oh, yeah? Why’s that?”

“Think it’s pretty obvious.”

“Try me.”

“Mostly it’s the size.”

He makes a face like Yeah, that makes sense.

But the shadow of that odd disappointment is still there.

“What can I say? I’m a big guy.”

“And maybe the tattoos.”

“I sure got them.”

“And the hair.”

“You don’t like it?”

He runs a hand over that thick black stripe right down the center, like some lady at a salon showing off her new hairdo. And it’s funny; it really is funny. It’s so funny that the assembled crowd laughs again to see him do it. This is probably the kind of show he does all the time, and I’m sure none of them ever question it.

But I’m questioning it. I can still see that serious undercurrent beneath his jokey manner, and it makes me answer him in a more impassioned way than I intend. “No, no, it’s not that at all,” I say, though it’s only afterward that I realize how true that sentiment is.

Yeah, he’s scary as fuck. Yeah, the thought of riding off with him on that bike almost freezes my blood. But if I’m honest with myself about liking that hair . . . I can’t exactly say no. I do like it. I like a lot of things about him, in a way I don’t fully understand. He should ping just about every aggressive-man fear I have, but every time I try to think of him that way, something else happens instead. I see the contrast between those black stripes and his pale blue eyes, and the way he waits for my answer in this actually interested manner, and how strange all of his clothes are and that flash of bitterness or weariness in him again, and then suddenly there it is:

The word handsome.

Dear God, I think he might be handsome, though I’m not going to stick around long enough to find out for sure.

“I’ve got to go,” I blurt out, but I immediately regret it. I should have just turned and run really quickly—not given him warning. Now he’s got time to punish me as I ever so slowly start to walk away. Oh, look at the little college girl. She’s frightened, he’ll say, and then someone will throw a rock at me. All of them will throw rocks at me, until I’m a bruised and bloody pulp on the front page of tomorrow’s newspaper. Idiot Student Finds Angry Biker Handsome, I imagine, though I’ve no idea why I’m doing it.

That doesn’t even make any sense. People don’t write reports about girls randomly noticing attractiveness. They write reports about girls being murdered, so really, that should be my headline. Idiot Student Has Arms and Legs Pulled Off by Handsome Biker, I try, but I can’t help noticing that the word handsome is still in there.

God, I wish it wasn’t still in there.

It’s hard enough as it is to walk to my car without glancing back. Putting the word handsome in there makes it nearly impossible. My eyes want me to double-check, and not just because I probably hallucinated how good-looking he is. They want me to check because I’m almost positive I can feel his gaze pressing into my back. I can feel it the way people in books say they can feel it, even though I usually snort and roll my eyes when I get to stuff like that. You can’t sense someone’s stare in real life. That’s just not the way it works.

So how come I’m right?

I dare to glance up once I’m inside the safety of my car, expecting to see him going about his business. Maybe he’ll be in the middle of some awful drug thing, I think. Maybe he’ll be making some kid pay for wanting to do something other than come right home after school. But he isn’t doing either of those things—not even close.

Instead I see those frostbitten eyes still steadily on me, as everyone around him returns to their rowdy and brutal ballet.

Less Than Forever (Love Always #3) by Jacinta Howard **Megan’s Review**

Raven Daniels and Dorian Thomas have been best friends since college. But while the free-spirited bond they share holds their relationship together, it’s also the reason they both know they’re better off as friends—flirty friends, but friends.

So when Raven decides to leave her old life and cheating ex behind in Fort Worth and move to Dorian’s turf in sunny Miami to take a job as a middle school art teacher, they’re both excited about the prospect of being around one another full-time. As the social media manger at a prominent company, Dorian knows his city, and he’s eager to show his girl the ropes.

But one night, emotions run high and everything about their platonic relationship is put to the test. A series of events is set in motion that neither one of them is prepared for, events that force them to answer the question… is love always worth it?

Megan's review

4 stars

Friends to more is always a hard concept for me to fall hard for when reading.  I have certain key elements that have to come across for me to really connect and feel the fall for the couple.  With Less Than Forever, I am starting with an added bonus… it’s part of a series!  Which means I already have a fond love for these characters.

less than forever 2_edited-1

Although, the blurb tells you this is a standalone, I think you are doing yourself an injustice by not reading the other books in the series (let alone ALL of the books by this author). Even though Dorian and Raven weren’t the main couple/characters in More Than Okay and More Than Forever, they were the BFF’s to Brian and Destiny and you are privy to their beginning friendship. You follow their friendly banter all the way through to their time in Less Than Forever. You’ll learn that it is just how they are!

If you read the two other books in the series you’ve waited for this moment.  For Dorian to finally throw out his play book and for Raven to be Dorian’s only play. Their friendly structure made their questionable jump sturdier than giving an outsider a chance. But, even though their getting together was a no brainer for all involved, letting that final all-in-compassed last string was the hardest to let go.  They struggle with the obvious want of each other but also with the knowledge of just how the other person is. And most importantly WHAT that other person wants and expects. I loved when Dorian and Raven were themselves, LOVED it when they had awesome fun conversations. But most of all of loved when it wasn’t nice and lovey dovey. I loved when issues arose that sometimes they went with it and other times it was just enough to break the camel’s back. I hate that it had to happen but at the same time as a reader I enjoyed their struggles all the while biting my nails.

less than forever jacinta howard_edited-1

It’s all about what happens when you decide to take that leap. I’m all in…but what does that mean. For men and woman, oh how can that mean so many things? Dorian was Ravens and Raven was his. No mistake there. No question. But to the outside world? Do you shout it at the roof top? Or do you let them all figure it out?

“It’s not that simple. You don’t know what you want,”

“But what does that even mean?”

“It means I want you and I only want you. I don’t just want you. I crave you, Raven.”

There is just something about Jacinta’s writing that the instant I see her name I am signing up on any list I can to read her words.  I like how she makes me feel, I like the way she tells her story and I love her characters. If you want crazy childish drama, or drama fantasized up just for the sake of having it, then you have the wrong book and the wrong author.  Jacinta gives us the definition of real.  She doesn’t need to play up anything.  Life isn’t always that crazy drama, it’s real and I love that her books are just like that. When people are just trying to figure out if she/he is worth the risk there is enough drama just with that. Learning to trust.  To let go. Jacinta did amazing at telling this awesome friends to more story for two characters who we all knew were meant for each other but not until they were in their right place.

Their right place is finally here!

Playing with Trouble (Capital Confessions #2) by Chanel Cleeton **Beth’s 5 Star Review**

The author of Flirting with Scandal presents her second book in a sexy contemporary romance series about three sisters in a powerful political family, the scandals that threaten to destroy them, and the passion that drives them…

The daughter of one of the Senate’s most powerful figures, Blair Reynolds was ready to become the ultimate political wife—until she caught her fiancé cheating on her wedding day. Law school is a fresh start, her shot at putting the pieces of her life back together. That’s the plan, at least. Until trouble comes in the form of her Torts professor, the man whose arrogance infuriates her in class but haunts her private fantasies.

Graydon Canter had a fortune and a place on all the hottest “Thirty under Thirty” lists, until a series of personal missteps nearly destroyed his career. A year teaching at a D.C. law school is just the break he needs to get his life back in order, as long as nothing—and no one—trips him up.

When Blair and Gray are forced to work together, their explosive attraction becomes impossible to resist. But Gray’s demons have drawn him dangerously close to the edge, and Blair has spent her life playing by the rules. Will she break them for a shot at love?

Beth's Review
5 stars
What another fabulous political romance from Chanel Cleeton, I have absolutely fallen in love with this series.  It was so well written from both POV’s and a great mix of hot and sexy, sweet and funny but also with the taboo professor/student romance along with the great political theme to the book.

Playing with Trouble is the second book in the Capital Confessions series and it can be read as a standalone easily but so much more enjoyed when you get to fall in love with Jackie and Will’s story in Flirting with Scandal first.  The first book also give us some back story on the Reynolds sisters as well as Blair’s situation.  This book picks up shortly right where book one leaves off with Blair picking up the pieces of her life by heading off to Law school as well as getting to know her newly introduced half-sister Jackie.  Enter Gray Canter who is making a fresh start teaching first year law after wrecking the life he had in Chicago with booze and drugs.  Gray has an addictive nature to him and the moment he sees Blair in his class he can’t stop thinking and fantasizing about her.  Blair, although she considers Professor Canter as her most hated professor. she finds him very sexy and can help but fantasize about him doing naughty things to her.  When these two have to now work much closers together on the first year pro-Bono project things start to heat up and the chemistry is off the charts.  But acting on feelings and having it come out would ruin both of their careers, his current one where he is trying to start over fresh and her future law career.

Once again this author has sucked me instantly into the story and I ended up reading this book in one sitting, it was just that good.  I really enjoyed how the author progressed the development of their relationship, it was a great build up between these two with the not only he chemistry building between them but also a friendship.
I really enjoyed Blair’s character and how strong she was.  She was the oldest daughter in a very powerful political family where they expected a lot from her.  Her life was never truly her own, and her mother constantly reminded her of that, trying to control her every move.  But Blair was lost, all that she had once known was just a dream, a fiancé that didn’t love her, couldn’t love her, a mother who was constantly disappointed in her choices along with her being in law school even though she wasn’t sure this was really what she wanted to do.  Even though she thought so very little hot herself she was so strong and brave to face it all and I absolutely loved watching her slowly find herself and her voice and finally fighting for all she wanted and for the ones she loved.

I really loved Gray’s character; he was the hot sexy yet very gruff professor that when I finally got to see the real Gray he was sweet and caring. I loved how he had made mistakes but owned up them and didn’t shy away from telling her.  So many times when reading books there is always this huge secret that one of the main characters is keeping for most of the story only to add drama once it all comes out. So the fact that he came clean with her and put it all on the line in the beginning not knowing if she would walk away was such a nice refreshing change from the same old same old.  I also loved that he knew he would never be good enough for her but he wanted to try to be a better man and when the time came he was willing to do what he thought was the right thing to do, he loved her that much.

Overall this was a fabulous book that I really enjoyed just as much if not more than the first one!  It was a great mix from the professor / student relationship to one of friendship with great banter between them which the. Turned into the flirting and teasing that really made the build-up between them grow at a great pace so when these two finally gave in and came together it was explosive, hot, sexy and totally off the charts panty wetting. I loved the political theme to the story and I must say, I loved the “Capital Confessions at the beginning of each chapter in book one but I found myself in this second book anxiously awaiting each new chapter to see what the next one was going to be.  And I will say there was a bit of a twist in this one that I totally didn’t see coming till it happened and I absolutely love when that happens in a book, it makes the story so much more enjoyable when it’s not predictable.  This book was a sweet yet sexy captivating story that I absolutely fell in love with and so happy to know this is not the end of the story for the Reynolds family, although I would love to see much more of Jackie and Blair stories, I am so glad that I don’t have to say good bye to these great characters just yet. I am very intrigued to read Kate’s heartbreaking story, and find out if she will finally have her revenge and once again find love.  These were my first books I have read by Chanel Cleeton but definitely won’t be my last, she will be going on my automatic one click list for sure!
