Excerpt

“I love you unbrokenly,” I whisper with my heart firmly stuck in my throat. He tilts his head and smiles that turn-my-knees-to-jello smile. “Why unbrokenly?”

A slow smile plucks at my lips. “Cause before you my life was broken, shattered to smithereens, but now it’s unbroken.”

His eyes soften and he presses his forehead to mine. “I love you …” and then he adds, “unbrokenly.”

My heart melts to a puddle of goo. “For reals?”

He nods, his eyes shimmering with emotions. I’m doing a little happy dance inside my heart because those emotions are all for me. And then he whispers, “For reals.”

Troy Brennan.

Every southie in Boston knows that name. The son of a dead mobster. The heartthrob with steel blue eyes. “The Fixer” who can make or break you in this city.

Oh, and my new husband.

Sparrow Raynes.

No one seemed to remember my name up until he barged into my life. And me? All I ever wanted was to get a decent job and to run away from the damn neighborhood Brennan and I grew up in. Run away from him and his likes.

I have dreams, big ones, but I doubt he’d ever let me chase them. I have no idea why Brennan, practically Bostonian royalty, decided to kidnap me, marry me and cage me in his beautiful penthouse.

But I do know this: pissing off this man will not do me any good. At all.

Warning: This book contains graphic violence and adult situations some may find offensive.

Debbie's review

4.5 stars

Holy Cow!!!! What an insane ride this book took me on! I was at the edge of my seat reading this one. This book pulled me right in and had me hooked until the very end.

Troy was one of the main characters and good lord was he cold and ruthless but yet you just knew there was a softer side of him that he kept hidden.  Sparrow was the other main character in this book and I loved everything about her. Regardless that she had a rough upbringing she didn’t let it stop her. She was strong and held her ground. The chemistry between these two was off the charts fantastic. The back and forth banter was just unbelievably funny at times. She really knew how to push his buttons. Troy was pretty cruel to Sparrow especially in the beginning and I wanted to hate him for it but Troy was hot as hell and I just couldn’t. From the first time they met I don’t think Troy had any idea exactly what he was getting himself into with Sparrow. She went toe to toe with him and wasn’t going to let him walk all over her.

“ People called Troy “The Fixer”. He fixed stuff.”

“So, if you’re looking for favors, you better start reciprocating. Start acting like a goddamned wife and not like a prisoner. Oh, and a few more days of that magical period of yours and I’m sending you for a checkup in the ER. Don’t want you to bleed out, huh?”

I have to say the authors writing style was fantastic. I felt like I was right there living the story along side of them. A majority of the plot twists I would never of guessed and all the secondary characters added that extra layer to the story.  All of the characters felt real and I loved that Troy and Sparrow’s relationship had growth.  You got to see their relationship build and it was at the perfect pace. Not to quickly or not drawn out where you want to just skim the boring nonsense. Everything written in this book just fell perfectly in place.

I caught myself several times yelling at my kindle or wishing I could crawl into it and junk punch a few of the characters. I was emotionally invested in this story from cover to cover.  So if you are looking for a book with a unique plot that will have you guessing what the hell is going to happen next and drained by the time you are finished reading it then you will really love this book.

His lips press against mine again in a soul shattering kiss. It’s slow and gentle, soft. This kiss is unlike any we’ve ever shared before; unlike any kiss I’ve ever had in my life. It is pure love coming off both of us, melding us together as one.
Slowly pulling away, he pushes me over onto my back. He makes his way down my body, only stopping to place a kiss on both of my pebbled nipples before pulling my legs apart. His talented mouth covers my core as his tongue slips between my folds and runs over my sensitive clit. He sucks my clit into his mouth, scraping his teething over the sensitive nub. One of his fingers slips into me, gliding in and out at a leisurely pace.
His tongue circles my clit once, then again, before he sucks it into his mouth. He adds another finger, then curves them up to reach my G-spot. The gentle suction, along with his finger rubbing my flesh, pulls an earth shattering orgasm from my body.
Bringing my hands to his dark locks, I moan out his name. “Boz.”
I’m still catching my breath as he makes his way up my body, once again stopping to place a kiss on each of my breasts.  Then his lips are on mine again, for another gentle yet deep kiss. I can taste myself on him. The flavor of the two of us combined is completely intoxicating, causing an aftershock to course through my body.
He pulls away long enough to grab a condom and roll it on, then brings his mouth back to mine. His hardness is nudging at me, asking for entrance.  Instead of sinking in, he runs the head of his cock through my juices before settling back where he belongs.
Lifting my hips just enough for the tip to ease in, I look him in the eyes. “You are amazing.”
His eyes are locked on mine as he enters me inch by inch, slowly sliding deeper. “Never felt anything better, darlin’.”
I lift my hips again, forcing him to move with me. He slowly pulls out of my depths then glides back inside. He pulls out again and again, thrusting back in a bit harder each time. I wrap my legs around his waist, resting them right above his ass, then lock my feet at the ankles. After that, I simply hang on and enjoy the pleasure of him filling me.
“Nothing could be better than this,” I say with a sigh, closing my eyes.
His thrusts gain speed, going a bit deeper each time. His hips rock back and forth, grinding against me each time he bottoms out. When he changes angles, causing his pelvic bone to brush over my clit, the constant friction has me getting closer and closer to coming again. When he finally goes all the way in again, my entire body is on fire as pleasure fills me.
I toss back my head and moan out my love for him. “Only you.”

Genre: M/M Romance

A man without memories, and the cop who never gave up hope.

When he wakes up in hospital, the victim of a brutal beating, John Doe has no memories of who he is or who hurt him. The cops can find nothing to identify him and he can’t remember anything to help… except the name Ethan and one recurring place from his dreams. Two words, and they’re not much, but it’s a start. Crooked Tree.

Cop, Ethan Allens, has never stopped searching for the two boys who vanished. When a report lands on Ethan’s desk that may give new leads he jumps at the chance to follow them up. The man he finds isn’t his brother, but it’s someone who could maybe help him discover what happened twelve years ago.

What neither man can know is that facing the very real demons of the past could very well destroy any kind of future they may think they have together.

Ethan must have nodded off at some point, waking to another coffee from Clare and a ten-minute warning that breakfast was about to be brought up to the patients. His neck ached, and he was semi curled up in the hard chair.
“Thought you needed this. If you want to go to the cafeteria, I can keep an eye on Adam.”
“No, I’ll stay here. Thank you, though.”
“I’ll see if I can get someone to bring you up something.”
A quick glance at his watch showed Ethan it was a few minutes after six. He checked his email. He’d only sent the information to Navy Liaison at late last night, but there was already a message back saying all efforts would be made to get the information to Cole Strachan. There was a group joke sent by one of the shift officers back at the precinct, and some spam. Other than that, nothing.
Ethan stood and stretched tall, sipped his hot coffee, and watched the April morning unfold before his eyes. Clare managed to scrounge up some pastries, and he ate them at the window, a hundred thoughts racing through his head.
A nurse disappeared into Adam’s room, and Ethan tensed in expectation. He desperately wanted to go in there, but would Adam even be interested in talking to him?
“Are you Ethan?” the nurse asked. The tray in her hand carried untouched food.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“You can go in. He’s asking for you.”
As he started to walk past her, she thrust the tray at him. There was a plate of eggs, and a sorry-looking pancake. “Try to get him to eat some of this,” she said.
He took the tray, because he didn’t really have a choice, and went into Adam’s room, kicking the door shut behind him. There was no one in the bed, but the bathroom door was closed, so Ethan assumed that was where the errant Adam was. He placed the tray on the table and waited, looking out of the same window Adam had been standing at last night. From this angle and at this height, Ethan could see the water of Lake Michigan and watch the hospital parking lot grow busier by the minute.
The bathroom door opened. Ethan instinctively turned and wished he hadn’t, because now he was staring. Not so much at the pajama bottoms that rode low on slim hips, or the broad chest that had a smattering of hair, tapering to a happy trail downward, nor to the muscles in Adam’s arms. No, Ethan was staring at the scars—new ones and some way older by the look of them—bruises purple and yellow and green, and the tattoos.
Tribal tattoos circled Adam’s arms, over his right shoulder, and down onto his pec: big swathes of dark ink with finer detail in curls around muscles. Something that looked like old burns marked his neck. A body that had seen a lot, felt a lot.
“I don’t remember them,” Adam said, his voice lost. He ran his fingers over the tattoos as if touching them would bring back memories. “They must have hurt, don’t you think?”
Ethan thought of the small tattoo over his heart and recalled the discomfort of getting it. His hadn’t hurt; the million tiny pricks into his skin were nothing.
“Maybe,” he offered.
Adam turned a little and checked the tattoos in the mirror, peering close. “I wonder what they mean?”
When he turned, he exposed more marks on his back and the fine lines of a horse standing on his hind legs. Ethan inhaled sharply.
“What?” Adam snapped, attempting to see his back even though he couldn’t get the right angle. “What is it?”
“Your horse.”
Adam frowned. “That is my horse? I want to see that again, the detective took a photo but he didn’t have a copy for me.”
Ethan pulled out his cell and snapped a shot of the beautiful tattoo, then passed the phone to Adam, who stared at the picture.
“Why is it—” Any energy seemed to leave him in the exhalation of a sigh, and he slumped to sit on his bed. “—I remember this is a cell phone, but I don’t recall patterns on my own skin?”
From his research Ethan learned terms like brain centers and retrograde amnesia, alongside traumatic stress, he didn’t understand a lot of it. “I have no idea.”
Adam curled into himself, hunching over his knees, looking utterly defeated.
Compassion welled inside Ethan, and he sat next to his old friend, pushing the tray toward him. “Eat your eggs,” he said gruffly.
Adam side-eyed him and huffed before taking the tray and resting it on the small hospital table. He forked some into his mouth, grimacing as he chewed and swallowed, but at least he ate half of what was there, and one cold, dry pancake.
“I need a proper breakfast,” Adam grumped.
“Like what?”
“Hot fresh bacon,” Adam said immediately, paling at what he was saying. “I think that I love bacon. I’d eat plates of the stuff if you gave them to me.”
“And real pancakes,” Ethan added. He reached over and poked at the sorry excuse for one that had been served. “But not like this one. Fluffy, steaming pancakes.”
Adam nodded and darted his tongue out to collect a small piece of egg resting on his lips. “Maple syrup,” he added softly.
“You always liked maple syrup.”
Adam finished the eggs and grimaced again. “When we get out of here, will you find me bacon?”
“Of course.”
“Real bacon, and pancakes with maple syrup. That sounds just like what I want to eat.”
Ethan’s chest tightened as Adam looked up at him under his eyelashes, his dark eyes holding humor. Adam and Justin had spent their childhoods getting Ethan to do what they wanted: the older brother with money from a part-time job, the one with the car. And he’d done everything they asked.
“I wouldn’t take you anywhere bad,” Ethan said
Adam pushed the tray to one side. “I need a shower, and then we go, right?”
“Right.”
“You should take photos of all my tattoos, so you could maybe find out more about me.”
“I know who you are. The rest will follow when your memories return.” He didn’t want to say that he’d already decided to email the tattoo of the horse to Jen, just in case she could track down where it had been done. It was a beautiful piece of work, and likely whoever did it would have it in a portfolio somewhere. Of course, that was a needle in a haystack. Who knew where Adam had been in the last twelve years? Chicago, where he was now? Or had he traveled from Montana to another city?
Adam looked at him, confused. “You said I disappeared. How old was I when that happened? Fifteen, you said?”
“You were nearly sixteen.”
Adam glanced down at himself, “And I’m twenty-eight now, so what happened in between?” He stood up and half turned. “You should get them all.”
Ethan did as Adam wanted, and pulled all the photos into one email, sending the whole lot to Jen with a particular request about tracking down the artist. Meanwhile, Adam went into the bathroom, closed the door, and left Ethan staring at the wood.

Josie's review

4.5 stars

This is my first time reading a book from this author and I can assure you it will not be my last.  I am a huge MC book fan and what I love in a good MC read is some grit, danger, bad ass bikers, drama, angst and of course when there is an  alpha male. Rough and Rowdy was everything I look for in a good MC read and more.  I am not a huge fan of insta-love, but Hayley Faiman made it work really well within the plot and the overall character development.

Fury is the President of the Notorious Devil’s MC and holding the that title comes with heavy expectations. Fury has his share of women but he is tired of the emptiness and the lack of emotion that that comes with the women.  He knows that they only want to hold the title of his “old Lady” but none of them really want to know the real man.  Fury wants so much more in life, but with the kind of life he leads, he thinks he can never have anything more in life.  Dreaming for more turns into a reality when he sees Kentlee, one day.

Kentlee is a woman that I related too in this story and really liked because she is an independent woman.  Her parents want her to marry a rich man and play the role of the perfect house wife, but that is something she does not want to do.  Kentlee wants to find a man that loves her for who she is. She wants a man that will cherish her and take care of her.  One that will make her feel things she has never felt before, and she starts to feels those things when she meets Fury the President of the Notorious Devils MC.

Man oh man, Fury was so frustrating at times but I loved him.  Fury saw Kentlee as innocent, classy and pure.  He did not want to taint her with the comings and goings of the club life, so he kept her away from the club.  I loved Fury’s rough façade, his charm and his dominance.  The conflict and inner battle in this book held my interest and the desire between this couple was crazy hot. What I loved most was watching Kentlee grow during this story. She handled some tough situations and she kept on moving.  There were plenty of times that Kentlee really, really irritated me with how she easily accepted some of Fury’s explanations.  I felt really proud of her when she turns a corner and doesn’t make it easy for him when he really screws up. I really liked that no matter what she wasn’t walking away either. This is where we see Fury grow.  He knew he messed up and he had to let go of his fears and show Kentlee just how much she meant to him.  He was no longer the big bad biker, but just a “man” fighting for the forgiveness of his woman.

I would highly recommend this book. It is worth the ride and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

It’s time to come home, Finn.

It’s been seven years since Daniel Finley left his hometown in Florida for the hustle and bustle of Chicago’s city life.

Since then, he’s worked hard for his position at the prestigious law firm Leighton & Associates, even when it’s caused distance and isolation from his family and friends. But that’s all about to change.

On his thirtieth birthday, he receives the one thing he never dared hope for. Something that was promised to him years earlier—a note. One simple sentence from the man he’s never been able to forget.

Six words will forever change the course of their lives.

Brantley Hayes has it all. Or so he thinks. When he first made the decision to take a job down in Florida, his family thought he was crazy. But, after years of living in the quiet beach town, he finally feels a sense of community. He’s surrounded himself with friends who are like family, has a job he loves, and owns a spectacular beachfront property that is his sanctuary.

Yet he still feels unfulfilled, as if a piece of the puzzle is missing, and he knows exactly which piece it is. On an impulse, he follows through with a promise he made years earlier. A promise to call home the one he sent away.

Nothing is as simple as it seems.

After years of separation, the former lovers are reunited, but Brantley wasn’t expecting to encounter the high walls now guarding Daniel’s heart.

Daniel may not be the same person he was when he left, but he knows that the first step to healing is the note in his hand.

BRANTLEY KEPT A discreet eye on the final student to leave for the morning as Mr. Finley strode down the stairs to the front of the classroom. They were three weeks into the semester and he was ashamed to admit that, with every day that passed, his fascination with the young man grew.

At first, he’d tried to convince himself that it was purely academic. The kid was smart. He’d aced all the weekly quizzes, and Brantley was more than aware of the way he watched him lecture with keen, intelligent eyes that never strayed from him.

Oh, he was fascinated, all right, but he made sure to tell himself at the end of every class that it had nothing to do with the mischievous grin Daniel would flash at his friends or the easygoing laugh that would bubble up out of him at any given moment. But he knew he was lying. Daniel was quite possibly the happiest person he’d ever met, and his joy of life lit up the room and everyone in it. Including him.

When Daniel stopped in front of him and dropped his paper on the desk, Brantley acknowledged him with a glance before returning his gaze back to the notes he was going over.

“Any big plans this weekend, Professor?”

The question had been so unexpected that he didn’t think to catch himself before he replied, “Nothing too big. Just going out with some friends. You?”

Daniel smiled at him as he shoved his arms through the loops of his backpack, and Brantley couldn’t help but look at his shirt as it stretched across his broad chest.

“I’m going to hit the beach. Such great waves right now.”

“Ahh, you like to surf. That explains it.”

When the side of Daniel’s mouth crooked up, the effect was charming as hell. The kid was a knockout.

“Explains what?”

Annoyed that he’d made such a stupid slipup, he looked back at the papers in front of him, hoping Daniel would get the message and leave. No such luck.

“Explains what?” he asked again.

Brantley sighed and rested his arms on the desk as he studied Daniel’s inviting face. “It explains your hair.”

“My—oh,” he said, touching the ends of it. “Do you like it?”

Stunned by the direct question, he sat back in his chair and fought the smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “Do I like your hair?”

“Yeah.

“Does it matter?” Jesus, fuck. Stop it. Stop flirting with him.

But it was too late. Daniel put his hands on the desk and leaned forward, Brantley toed the ground, shoving his chair back.

“It could…”

“No. No, it couldn’t,” he said as he got to his feet, shaking his head.

Daniel straightened and tucked his thumbs into the straps of his backpack, no doubt to taunt him. His eyes were too knowing for someone his age, and when they held his longer than was acceptable, Brantley’s heart skipped a couple of beats.

“Was there something else, Mr. Finley?”

“You said you were going out with friends this weekend…”

Shit, did I? “Yes, that’s right.”

As Daniel ran his thumb down the left strap of his bag, he admonished himself for noticing every little move he made. He needed to get a fucking hold of himself.

“Are any of them more than a friend?”

If he hadn’t been watching Daniel quite so closely, he wouldn’t have believed the words that had just come out of his mouth. But he had been. So he did.

“I don’t believe that’s any of your business. You better hurry or you’ll miss your next class.”

Satisfied that he’d firmly dismissed Daniel, he sat down and made a show of focusing on the books lining his desk and didn’t dare look and see if he had left this time or not. He wasn’t sure what he’d do if he was still standing there.

He reached up to adjust his tie, which suddenly felt a little too tight around his neck, and with each passing second that he was consciously not checking to see if he was alone, he swore that it was getting tighter.

“Professor Hayes?”

His head snapped up at his name, and when Daniel had his attention, he continued.

“Are you gay?”

Brantley’s eyes widened, and he wondered how his mouth hadn’t fallen open at the blunt question. Instead, he went with, “Excuse me?”

“I asked if you were—”

“I heard what you said. But I don’t see how that is any business of yours, either. You should think before you speak, Mr. Finley. I’m your teacher, and it’s time for you to leave. This conversation is over.” He flipped open one of the books on his desk and shook his head. He couldn’t believe the audacity of the kid—or the fact that he was so damn forthright. As he sat there, grinding his teeth in an effort not to look at his student—who was still standing in front of his desk—a bead of sweat ran down his collar and he cursed the fact that his nerves were getting the better of him.

“I only asked because, well, I am too. And I thought it would be nice to have someone to talk to.”

Well, hell. He couldn’t fault him for that. The only problem was…talking wasn’t what sprang to mind when he was around Daniel Finley.

He clasped his hands on the desk and stared into the anxious face peering down at him. Daniel was worrying his lower lip with his teeth, and he suddenly looked very much the young man he was.

“Are you?” he asked again, and there was no way he could deny that hesitant curiosity.

“Yes, Daniel. I am.”

As his words drifted between them, Daniel’s mouth slipped into a smile. “Oh.”

Brantley laughed at that. He wasn’t sure what Daniel was thinking right then. He’d thought for sure with the way he’d been looking at him earlier that, if he’d admitted this, he would be fending off—or at least putting up a good show of fending off—an unwanted pass. But, instead, Daniel appeared thoughtful.

“Does that bother you?”

Daniel adamantly shook his head. “No.”

“Are you sure?” he pressed, and the look that entered Daniel’s eyes then was so hot that he thought he may overheat.

“Yes. I’m very sure.”

Oh, fuck. Okay. Where the hell did the nervous guy disappear to? One minute, Daniel was endearingly awkward, and the next, he was looking at him like he wanted to strip him out of his clothes and—“Stop right there,” he said, and he wasn’t sure if he was telling himself that or the contradiction eyeing him with newfound knowledge. “Whatever you’re thinking, stop thinking it.”

“Why?”

Yep, he was fucked. That wasn’t a word he generally used, but in this case, he was well and truly fucked. He should’ve just stuck to the runalongnow speech.

“Because I’m your teacher.”

“This isn’t high school. I’m an adult.”

He sighed. “That may be true. But I’m your professor and this conversation is inappropriate.”

“How? I just asked if you were gay and you said yes. I don’t see what the problem is.”

When Daniel aimed a mischievous grin at him, Brantley knew he was very aware of what the problem was.

“Out,” he said, pointing to the door. “Time to leave, Mr. Finley.”

This time, he made sure to watch Daniel so he knew he was actually leaving. He walked to the door, but at the last minute, he turned around to look back at him. Not willing to back down and show weakness, Brantley kept his eyes on his student as Daniel ran his tongue along his lower lip.

“You should call me Finn. Everyone else does.”

Christ. The kid was going to drive him to an early grave, but damn if he didn’t laugh at his audacity.

“Out,” he said again, and this time Daniel pushed out the door and disappeared into the hall.

Ella Frank has once again delivered a book that will have your heart jumping for joy and melted in a pile of goo. So many feels in this book and the sexual tension!  You can slice a knife through how thick it is and my god it oozes from the pages. Finley and Brantley’s story so well written, the emotions these characters pour out isn’t something that can be easily over looked or not felt as it pulls at every heart string and there is no letting go. A story that has so many tender moments and sexy scenes that there is no walking way. I loved every single moment I got to experience this story. Ella Frank has mastered the art of creating brilliant, intriguing characters and storylines and she certainly did not disappoint with Finley.  I’ll be honest, I don’t really remember Finley from the Temptation series but it really didn’t matter. If Ella Frank writes it I’ll read it.

This story is a wonderfully written book about second chance love with a professor/student dynamic tied in. It definitely had me on a bit of an emotional roller coaster. This story tells us of a love affair that is all consuming, real, honest and very intense. Finn and Brantley have been apart for 7 years, haven’t seen or spoken to one another since they’ve parted. A simple note changes everything for these men.

“It’s Time to come home, Finn.”

I loved that right from the beginning you can you tell where each of these men stand even while they work out what they really want. I loved that there is no denying where they hearts lay and what they are thinking. This story is a very character driven story, so even though this story mainly takes place in the present time, Ella gives us the perfect window into their past through flashbacks. I love that we get to be a part of that time because it really helped to understand them a lot better. There is no doubting that you can’t feel how strongly these characters really love each other. It also helped to understand why things went down the way they went down. My heart truly ached for the time lost between these men. There is no question that these men belonged together then or now.

There is so much I loved about this story.  There are so many hot sexy moments and of course Ella Frank can write some pretty steamy sex scenes. I loved how the roles were reversed between these men. How dominate Finn was and how much Brantley loved giving up that control for his Finn.  I loved how tender and honest these men were with each other. There wasn’t any unnecessary drama or games played. There is a time where my heart completely sank and broke, but thank god Ella quickly made it right. These characters were just incredible, I loved everything about them.  I would definitely recommend this book.

Beth's Review

4 stars

I am a huge fan of BN Toler and have loved everything I have read of hers.  This lady can truly write an amazing story, whether it’s a heartbreaking emotional roller coaster or just fun and flirty read.  Her creativeness with her characters and storylines just astounds me.  But as great as all that is, trying to then write a review for her books without giving anything away and keeping it spoiler free is s no easy task.

Clara Bateman has lived on her own raising her daughter and running the business she partly owns, both of which she shares with Paul James.  Paul James doesn’t do forever, nor does he do babies and white picket fences.  He only does EPIC adventures and left 13 years ago and has never looked back.  Now many years later, his twelve year old daughter is dying of cancer and before she does, she wants to meet her dad and places a Craig’s List ad looking for him that ends up going viral.

This story, like all the rest of her stories, was a unique and fresh contemporary romance that was a mix of everything.  It had some great cute and funny moments, it had sad and heartbreaking moments and it had some really hot and sexy moments.   From the moment I picked this book up to the moment I was done, this one was an absolute emotional roller coaster, but that is all I will say in regards to the storyline as I do not want to give one bit of it away.

Paul and Clara always seemed to have a love/ hate relationship right from the moment they met. It eventually grew into a much stronger connection and now thirteen years later, it is still there with all the same feels and emotions happening between them.  Clara was such a strong amazing woman, she never had it easy.   At a very young age she lost her parents and was raised by her grandmother.  Then as an adult she comes home to find her husband having an affair.  She is constantly losing the people she loves and it doesn’t stop when Paul James walks into her life.  She finds herself alone, with Paul, her friends hundreds of miles away, pregnant and left to run a business she knows nothing about.  But thirteen years later, she has turned it into a successful business, raised a beautiful daughter and made a home for themselves in this little town.  She may have not been adventurous, chickening out and not jumping out of the plane.   But she truly was a strong adventurous women when she did her own jumping into a brand new and scary life.  And not only that, to spend the last four years watching her daughter be so sick, knowing there was a chance that she could lose her, but staying strong through it all.

I must say in the beginning I truly wanted to hate Paul but the more I got to know them and know more about their past and seeing him now with Neena, I couldn’t help but love him.  He was the typical macho stubborn pigheaded male, but seeing him now with both Clara and Neena, he truly was a sweet and caring man, a great big teddy bear, who would do just about anything for either of his girls.

Overall a really good story that truly had me fighting the tears many times.  This one truly gave me a totally different perspective when possibly losing someone you love.  So many times I have read the story that had the chance of the person possibly losing the love of their life.  In this one, it was the story of two people who loved each other so much and found their back to each other thanks to the daughter they shared but were now faced with the fact that they may lose the one thing they created together.  No parent should ever have to have that worry of possibly burying their child and reading the things they had to deal with and face as a parent who might actually have to do that, was truly at times gut wrenching and the author did an amazing job writing exactly that.

B N Toler lives in Virginia. When she’s not reading and writing, she’s thinking about reading and writing. Before she became a self-proclaimed writer, she worked as a real estate agent and as an orthodontic technician. **She will notice your teeth before your eyes or hair or anything.**
She enjoys shopping (way too much) and is on a first name basis with several employees at the local Target in her town.
She loves music,(bluegrass, country, 80’s, actually she loves most music ~her favorite song is American Pie by Don McLean and she worships anything that is Elvis and Johnny Cash and Eric Church) dancing, (even though she sucks at it)reading, writing, eating (too much) sleeping late, (which she rarely gets to do) and laughing. If you can make her laugh, she will love you forever.

An hour later they stopped by the Glenn River, eight miles downriver from Ginger’s house and two from the distillery where Cain had partied last night.

“We should water them,” he said, reining in Thunder and dismounting with the ease of a lifelong horseman.

She reined in Heath, who nickered in protest, and grinned down at Cain who reached up for her. His hands lingered for an extra moment on her hips as she slid down the front of his body. Leaning her head back, she stared up at him, daring him to pull her closer, to kiss her, to admit that this whole “friends” thing was bullshit on fire. But, he clenched his jaw, cleared his throat and dropped his hands.

“Thanks,” she murmured, her voice husky in her ears as he stared down at her, his eyes flinty and dark.

Taking Heath’s reins with a grunt, he turned away from her, leading the horses to the river’s edge and leaving her to follow behind. She leaned down to pick up a flat stone and skipped it across the slow moving water.

“Not bad,” said Cain.

“You were always the best.”

“Nah,” he said. “Woodman was better.”

“Nope,” she countered, picking up another stone. “Woodman was good, but you were better. Remember that Fourth of July that you skipped eleven times? Eleven times. It was a record.”

Satisfied that the horses were calm and drinking their fill, Cain leaned down and grabbed a rock of his own, skipping it over the dark water.

One-two-three-four-five-six-seven…

“Wow!” she said, clapping lightly. “You’ve still got the touch!”

He turned to her, grinning. “You always get excited about the littlest things. What’s it like gettin’ a kick out of everythin’, Gin?”

“What’s it like gettin’ a kick out of nothin’, Cain?” she asked, her voice full of sass.

“I’m gettin’ a kick out of you right now, princess.”

A charge zapped between them as the words left his mouth, and her breath hitched and held for just a moment, but she looked down and picked up another rock. She was enjoying today too much to go back to Awkwardland.

She skipped her rock, which sunk after three measly hops.

“Remember when you saved my Cabbage Patch doll from certain doom in this river?” she asked him.

He screwed up his face as her. “Wasn’t me. Must have been Woodman.”

“It was you!” she insisted. “Not Woodman!”

“Savin’ a dolly? Please. That has Woodman written all over it. I couldn’t have cared less if it drowned.”

“But I cared,” she said softly. “Which is why you saved it.”

“Fine. Have it your way,” he said, sitting down on a large rock near the water’s edge.

She sighed, squatting down to wash her hands in the clear water before looking back at him. “Why do you do that?”

“Do what?”

“Let Woodman take credit for all the good things?”

He shrugged, looking away from her, out at the water. “I don’t.”

“You just did. Twice.”

He sighed, giving her a long-suffering look. “If somethin’ good happened, chances were, it was Woodman’s doin’.”

“How do you figure?”

“He’s the better man, Gin,” said Cain, his eyes severe, his words deliberate.

She stood up slowly, turning her body completely to face him. “Do you really believe that?”

He looked away. “It’s the truth.”

“Cain. Cain, look at me.” Her words didn’t feel like enough so she beseeched him with her eyes too. “You’re just as good a man as he is.”

“Ha!” scoffed Cain, standing up and moving away from her. “Not in this life, princess.”

Josie's review

Let me start off with this first… That cover! Wow just wow!! Really love it!

I adore this author’s Modern Fairytale series.  Katy Regnery’s writing is so unique that I know her story will be amazing and leave a lasting impression on me.  She has this amazing sense of writing where I am transported to a time and a place where the story actually takes place.  Ginger’s Heart is the modern retelling of Little Red Riding Hood but in this case the woodsman and the wolf are cousins, who both fall in love with Little Red.

Ok so based on my past sentence, you can see we are in for some family drama, angst and some heart ache. And boy do we ever get some here.  Once I started this book I could not put it down. I really was not sure how things were going to turn out, and I wanted a HEA for everyone.  Once you get to know the characters in this story, you are going to love them as much as I did.  These characters are very well developed. Each will suffer by their own-doing but they are trying desperately to make the best of their situations.

Ginger McCaid is a character I could not hate. You know when you have a love triangle going on there is always that one you may be on the fence with? Well I just couldn’t hate her.   I really liked how this character had a lot of depth to her and we got to see that through her intensity, her loyalty and her openness.

Cain Wolfram is the typical bad boy that we look for in books. He is good looking and has a dirty mouth.  He lives behind a persona that everyone believes him to be.  But Cain is anything but that ‘bad guy”.  He has a soft side and he sacrifices so much just to see other people happy, even if that means he has to live a lonely life.

Josiah Woodman is the good guy. He is the town hero and loves Ginger with all his heart.  Josiah is the sweetest guy out, there but don’t take that sweetness for being soft because when it comes to Ginger the man he is possessive and does not hide behind any walls.

I have to admit I was just as conflicted as Ginger. I mean Good Lord Josiah and Cain can charm the panties off of me with just a sentence, how could she choose?  As I was reading this book, I knew someone was going to get hurt. How could it not happen, someone always gets hurt in when it’s a triangle. It was there in the writing and I knew it was going to crush me. HOLY SMOKES!! Ms. Regnery killed me, my heart broke, ok I am lying it did not break it SHATTERED – LIKE I THREW A WINE GLASS ON THE FLOOR SHATTERED!

Ginger’s Heart was fascinating and awe inspiring.  There was not one point in this book that I did not feel what each of these three characters were feelings. I felt like I was there with them on this very angst filled journey.   This book is going frustrate you, you will laugh, you will cry and scream but if you stick it out the ride is so worth it.  It won’t matter which team you end up on. Team Cain or Team Josiah, it really makes no difference because the right man won. One woman, two men, one will lose and the other will walk away with Ginger’s Heart, the question is who?

They are both void of love, both not even searching for anything else. Fate brings them together, and thirty-six questions ignite a spark in them both. Could thirty-six questions lead to love? It was an experiment worth exploring.

Josephine (Jo) is that person that watches the world turn, studying the characters that exist in life each day, finding different personalities, traits and attributes that can be worked into the stories that flow into her head.

She loves the escapism of writing, finding the time to create new characters whenever she can. With the support and encouragement of her husband, Jo has completed her second novel.

Delicate Love is an adult contemporary romance, with just a touch of anguish. Its real life, mixed with angst and romance. The story revolves around 36 questions that were originally written as an experiment by Arthur Aron, 41 years ago. His aim at the time was to have a couple fall in love within his laboratory, to prove that intimacy could be encouraged. The laboratory part sounds romantic doesn’t it?

Chasing Butterflies was Jo’s debut novel, and is a story she decided she wanted to tell after her own experience with breast cancer. In July 2012, Jo decided that a Bilateral Mastectomy was the best option for her after being diagnosed. Thankfully she was given the all clear after her surgery. It is a story based loosely on her own breast cancer journey, a story of a young woman who faces decisions that no one should have to and finds love along the way.

Jo lives on the Gold Coast, Australia, with her husband Rob, and pet dog Paris. Together they love entertaining, good times with friends and enjoying life.
