Politically Incorrect by Jeanne McDonald Release Day Blitz, Review & Giveaway

Young couple flirting with legs at the restaurant under the tableRelease Date: August 16, 2016

Sex. Lies. Greed. Power. Scandal. Politics.

Political strategist, Elizabeth McNeal has been called a lot of things throughout her career—bitch being at the top of the list—but she doesn’t let it get to her. She’s bold, she’s blunt, and she takes orders from no one. This is how she’s survived working in a man’s world. She’s the master of diversion, and her specialty is winning an election—no matter the cost.

That is, until she meets her new client, Democratic candidate, Congressman William Baxter. Kind, considerate, insanely handsome, honest, and ten years her junior, he’s a unicorn among politicians. He infuriates her. He challenges her. Most of all, he makes her see past the scandalous world of politics and helps her to discover the heart of the woman inside her.

With sparks flying between them and the election rapidly approaching, the last thing either of them need is to be caught in a compromising position. Some lines are meant to be crossed and some rules broken, but for Elizabeth and Liam is it worth the cost of being politically incorrect?

Although I don’t read political romances very often, I must say I do really enjoy them.   There is just something about a hot and sexy Politician that I absolutely love.    I also love finding new authors to read so when I saw the chance to review this political romance, it intrigued me and I jumped at the chance to read it.  So glad I did as I really enjoyed this one and will definitely be checking out more by this author.

Elizabeth McNeal  is the best of the best when it comes to being a political strategist and her good friend Guy Harper has found her next client, Liam Baxter.   Liam is ex-military, young and currently a congressman but he has decided to put his hat forward for the vacant senate seat for Texas.  The chemistry is instant between these two but there are two issues for Elizabeth when it comes to her and Liam.  First she is 11 years older than him and second he is her client and put those two together, it is complete political suicide for these two to cross that line.

I must say this is the first book I have read by this author and I was so pleasantly surprised when I was immediately drawn into this story.  I loved Elizabeth’s character and do have to say I disagree with the author’s description of her character of being a bitch.  Elizabeth was a strong, hardworking, determined and very successful woman who was very good at what she did.  She was truly in a man’s world and women like her tend to be labeled as being a bitch but she was anything but.  I absolutely loved so many things about her but most of all, even though her career was important to her, first and foremost, she was a mom.

I absolutely loved Liam.  He wasn’t your normal political candidate.   He was a breath of fresh air, he was caring, hardworking and most important, honest.  And I must say he was so hot and sexy, truly swoon worthy, I couldn’t help but fall instantly in love with him, he truly had my vote!

I really enjoyed the dynamic the author built between these two right from there very start. The chemistry and attraction between these two was instant but it was also so very hot.  I loved the banter and innuendo going on between them and I loved how it slowly built things up between these two until neither the reader nor the characters could take it anymore and the coming together of these two was inevitable and totally off the charts hot.

Overall this was a really fabulous read that had some really great hot and sexy scenes, some really enjoyable banter along with some really great angst and possible political drama happening.  It was very well written and had great flow, the only down fault I found was that the storyline as great as it was, it was very predictable and it took away a bit of that suspense in wonder how it would all play out but still a great read to pick up and enjoy.

Release Blitz & Review: Ripped by Lisa Edward

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of dance [da:ns] is “to move rhythmically to music, typically following a set sequence of steps.” Technically, that’s true, but dance is so much more. What the dictionary doesn’t mention is that the movement comes from within you, from the very depths of your soul, that place that holds all your hopes and fears, all your loves and losses. Dance is a form of expression, of all the emotions that make us who we are.

Jasmine Wilkinson

I’ve finally made it … only six years later than expected.

New York promises to be the experience of a lifetime, and if I’m lucky enough, a chance to dance on Broadway and fulfill a lifelong desire.

After graduating from Boston Conservatory, I’d intended to meet the love of my life, Baxter Sampson, in the city that never sleeps, and share the rest of my life with him. But sometimes dreams don’t go as planned, and we have to make new ones. I know Bax would have made it big; he was such a phenomenal dancer. I wish I could have been there to see it happen, but I can’t wait to catch a Broadway show and see his name in lights.

Maybe he’ll still remember me.

Baxter Sampson

Eight years in New York have all but stolen my dreams from me.

After years of auditioning for every contemporary ballet production in New York, I had to admit defeat. I wasn’t good enough to make it on Broadway. I wasn’t good enough for Jasmine, the only girl I’ve ever loved, to keep her promise and meet me here after she graduated six years ago. So my plans changed—they had to. But when there’s an inexplicable force driving you to perform, you have to catch the spotlight wherever you can, even if it’s in the last place you expected to find it. My life had always revolved around Jaz and dance, my two true passions. I’ve already lost one—I can’t lose the other.

I first fell in love with this author’s writing when I read her Songbird series so when I saw that she had a new standalone coming out and the characters were dancers I couldn’t wait to read it.  Her writing in that series was so beautiful and full of emotion and angst.  So I must say going into this one I had very high hopes.

Jasmine (a.k.a.  Jaz) is finally making it to the big city to make her dreams come true.  Only problem is it’s 6 years after she originally planned and she is on her own.  Baxter , her once boyfriend, dance partner and love of her life has been in the city for eight years now but for the past 6 years they have not spoken.  Baxter moved there eight years ago and waited until Jaz was done school to be able to join him two years later but that never happened, plans changed and things ended with them.  Now, many years later, in a city so large, these two past lovers find themselves running into each other and finding a way back to what they once had.  But with Jasmine finally making her dream come true but Baxter never getting that chance, can these two find their way back to the love they shared now that they no longer share dance.

I really liked both Jaz and Bax’s characters and their storyline was good but I struggled to stay engaged.   I adore second chance romances so along with that, the fact that the main theme of the book is dance,  I couldn’t wait to read this one and I really wanted to love it.  Sadly though I had several issues with the storyline.  First I found myself wanting so much more out of the story and out of the characters.  I liked the storyline but it just fell flat for me.

Second, I had issues with the premise of the storyline.  These were two people who were madly in love, and planning on spending their lives together and to have it all end because something changed and that Jaz didn’t get to fully explain what the circumstances were as to why things changed just seemed off for me.  Why would they end things and never speak again without a full explanation.   Then to have them meet up 6 years later, finally get the explanation and immediately pick up right where they left off, just didn’t work for me.  And I think with the start of the book not really working for me, it set the tone for the rest of the book.

Last, I found there to a few inconsistencies in the storyline that I struggled to get past and really pulled me out of the story, which even further set the tone for me.

I know  I will most likely be in the minority with my thoughts here and hate to rate this book low but this one, although had a good premise, the actual  execution of it, just didn’t work for me and had me actually contemplating not finishing it.  I am glad I did I just wish I could have loved this one.

COVER REVEAL & GIVEAWAY: El Diablo by M. Robinson

I was ruthless.

I was feared.

I had sacrificed. Myself. Her. Everything…

Living in a world where I was worth more dead than alive was a choice. I was a bad man, never claimed to be anything else. I’ve done things I’m not proud of. Seen things that can’t be unseen. I’ve caused pain that I can’t undo.

It was all my choice.

Every decision.

Every order.

Right and wrong never mattered.

Until her.

She was under my protection, until she became my obsession.

But who was going to save her…

From. Me. The devil himself.

Fate brought us together. Destiny destroyed us.

I lunged forward, clearing all the contents off the table, to the floor. The sounds of the glass crashing onto the hardwood was mocking me… my heart shattering the exact same way.

It was everywhere and all around me.

I couldn’t run.

I couldn’t escape.

I had no one.

I kept moving because I knew once I stopped I would crash, and possibly never get back up again. I darted around the dining room, my feet stomping with every step, leaving a path of destruction in their wake. Throwing candles, dishware, and chairs. Flipping the table over. I went after anything I could find, demolishing the perfect night.

“I hate you! I hate you!” I yelled, punching the mirror that I caught my reflection in. Not even flinching from the pain. I repeated that mantra over and over, letting it sink into my pores, and making it become a part of me. Destroying everything in my path, the future I would never have.

I pulled my hair back, taking in the destructive scene before me. “Get yourself together,” I rasped, making my way to the bar. Taking four swigs of whiskey from the head, not bothering with a glass, and repeating it several times until the bottle was empty, and I felt nothing but the burn through my body.

I couldn’t take it anymore. I grabbed another bottle, wanting to drown myself in the amber liquid. Leaning my whole body against the wall, I started sliding down, wallowing in the despair of what my life had become. I don’t know how long I sat there, drinking my life away when I heard the front door open, footsteps coming my way.

“Sophia?” I slurred.

A part of me hoped that it was somebody that was coming to put me out of my misery.

Reapers Fire by Joanna Wylde **Josie’s Review**

reaper's fireBlurb

New York Times bestselling author Joanna Wylde returns to the “wild and raw”* world of the Reapers MC with the story of Gage and Tinker…

The club comes first.

I’ve lived by those words my whole life—assumed I’d die by them, too, and I never had a problem with that. My Reaper brothers took my back and I took theirs and it was enough. Then I met her. Tinker Garrett. She’s beautiful, she’s loyal, and she works so damned hard it scares me sometimes . . . She deserves a good man—one better than me. I can’t take her yet because the club still needs me. There’s another woman, another job, another fight just ahead.

Now she’ll learn I’ve been lying to her all along. None of it’s real. Not my name, not my job, not even the clothes I wear. She thinks I’m nice. She pretends we’re just friends, that I’ve still got a soul . . . Mine’s been dead for years. Now I’m on fire for this woman, and a man can only burn for so long before he destroys everything around him.

I’m coming for you, Tinker.

Jodie's review

4.5 stars

This is a Joanna Wylde book so it’s pretty much a guarantee that I’ll love the story. It’s about The Reapers MC so what’s not to Like!  I love how we get to see the lives of new Reapers members as well as the older ones we have fallen in love with.  I loved how we get to see not only the depth of love these men have for their women but also their love for the club.  In true spirit Joanna gives readers the grit, intense and emotional side of loving a man in a MC. We also get to see the lighter and playful side of these men.

Tinker has suffered a lost so intense and painful. I truly admired her for her strength because I don’t think I would have ever come back from it but she does.  She comes back stronger and more put together than before.  She leaves her cushy and extravagant life in Seattle to pick up the pieces of her life and care for her ailing father.  I loved the relationship she had with her dad and her best friends. I swear I laughed so much when Tinker and Carrie would get together.  Gage comes to town in need of a job, one that will allow him to do what the Reapers need. Tinker is immediately attracted to Gage and takes a chance with this stranger.

Gage, gosh I have to say he’s right up there with Horse.  I haven’t felt for the other men in the club like I did for Horse until Gage.  He loves his club and has always done right by them but one look at Tinker has him fighting with his heart and mind. Gage’s need and turmoil for Tinker was felt on every page through the interactions they had.  His feelings and need for her were real and having to put those feelings on hold all for the love of his club was painful to read.

This is a book that you have to go slow with to truly appreciate the feelings, backstory and even the ecological story in this message book.  Gage is living a life filled with lies. One to a woman who owns his heart mind and soul and another to another woman that’s part of a job. Tinker and Gage are meant to be but Gages loyalty to his club and has him pushing Tinker away.  I loved that she doesn’t sit at home pinning away for him. When Gages lies come to the surface he finds himself in for fight bigger than he’s ever fought before.

Gages job for the club and the consequences of that betrayal proves to be dangerous. There were some really gritty moments in this book.  Gage and Tinker were like fire together and I loved that Gage was a no hold bars kind of guy. I loved how in this book not only are we dealing with the drama of the MC but also the fight with the elements of nature as well.  I loved Reapers Fire and can’t wait to see where Ms. Wylde will take the Reapers next.

Unwilling to give him the upper hand, she flashed a haughty smirk and returned his assessment with a lecherous leer of her own, drinking in every inch of his athletic build, from his bulging biceps to the ripped abs evident beneath his clingy shirt, all the way to the formidable package at the juncture of his powerful thighs. She lingered there, brazenly licking her lips.
He leaned in close—so close she thought he might kiss her. And damn it to hell, she wanted him to. Lust and challenge pulsed between them, thick and alive like a third heart.

Josie's review

4.5 stars

I absolutely love that this author has the ability to write a story with real life issues that keep me coming back for more.  In Chased by Love Melissa added just the right amount of romance, drama and emotions that it was totally engrossing.  Once I picked up this book I wanted to know a lot more about Trish and Boone. I honestly couldn’t get enough of these two. The story was written very well and the characters and relationship between them all came naturally. Most importantly they were believable.

Trish is a serious, dedicated and a passionate character. She is a Ryder, when she loves she loves just as hard and intense as her brothers do.  Her career is something she does not take for granted and works hard to remain on top.  She is cast to star in a powerful and important role that will make her career.  You can see the dedication she has to her profession as well as her interest in the movie.  Of course having Boone the gorgeous rock God as her computer star is also rewarding.  The problem is Boone is messing up and ruining her big chance.

Boone is so not what the tabloids paint him out to be.  He took this role because of the underlining message behind it..  Boone is so sweet and caring, he wants to nail this character but it’s just impossible.  When the movie executives threatened to pull the plug, Trish and Boone are forced to share 10 days together.

These characters are total opposites. They come from different backgrounds but are so much alike.  I loved how the author handled their unique relationship. I loved that she gave them the time to get to know one another and open up.  Their road to love was intense and at times they clashed, but what made them unique was their willingness to succeed.  Boone meets his match in Trish because when they give into their desires she goes all in.  I loved that Boone is a total alpha and just like the Ryder men he loves fiercely and hard.  I loved how we see standoff between Boone and the Ryder men. I could not stop laughing.

This story was fast paced and unlike the normal drama filled love stories we tend to see. Chased by Love deals with the ability to let others in and share your burdens.  Chased by Love was such an incredible and enjoyable read and I was sad to see it end.  If you are looking for a light summer read without a lot of drama then this is one you’ll want to grab.

Kim's Review

I find that with books I’m pretty open with the storylines that I read. From romance to dark reads to mindfucks and so on. However, based off the synopsis of this book, I probably would steer clear of one like this. I also normally do not read reviews in fear of spoiling a book for myself. But while I was on Goodreads this week, I read the first paragraph of a review in my feed and knew I needed to read this. So I did. Which now leads me to my current predicament. What do you rate a book that has a taboo storyline, the writing is really good but certain parts made your stomach twist just a little to much? And even though the book is good you just can’t get on board with it completely without feeling like you’re compromising your morals? So again what does one rate it? Right now I truly don’t know or think I can.

Wavy and Kellen’s story is not for the weak hearted. It’s raw and ugly. I’m still unsure about the wonderful parts. I feel like yes there were times where Kellen truly did make things better but when certain parts got a little to real for me… let’s just say I couldn’t completely wrap my head around it. I still can’t. My biggest problem is I’m having a hard time seeing the real love story here. I feel like as I start to try to justify certain things, my head then gives me all the reasons on why I can’t.

It’s hard to review this book without giving away the story. I wish I could sit here and give you the play by play so you could help me decide how to feel. But then you probably wouldn’t need to read it! And I very much think you should read it. It’s not a mindfuck where someone can mess it up for you but I still feel like you need to experience it on your own. That way you can come up with your own decisions without someone else influencing you. Once you make it to end we can discuss it until the cows come home! Because right now I really need someone to discuss it with and there’s no one! So please read it and come talk to me!

“I can’t believe how late it is,” Tinker said, yawning, and I realized the movie had ended. Now she stretched upward, the blanket falling to her waist as her boobs pushed forward.

God, how much should a man be expected to take?

I should’ve stayed away from her completely—that’d been the plan—but something had snapped when I’d seen her out in the courtyard. Couldn’t remember the last time I’d met a woman like Tinker. She was smart and sexy and funny, and she worked damned hard to take care of her family and business. Sure, I wanted to fuck her—you’d have to be gay not to—but I respected her, too.

“I should probably get going,” she said, offering me a smile so sweet I wanted to bite her lips. “I like to check on Dad before going to sleep, and I’ve got to be up early in the morning. I’ve got to package orders for the courier tomorrow—if they aren’t ready by two p.m., I’m screwed.”

I considered rolling over on top of her. Pushing her down into the couch cushions, shoving my leg between hers, and showing her what a real man feels like.

“Cooper?” she asked, looking confused. I blinked a couple times, forcing myself to focus on her face.

“I’m going to watch another one,” I told her, because I’m a goddamn masochist. “You sure you’re ready to head out?”

She frowned, and I could almost read her thoughts. Yes, she should leave. But she wanted me as much as I wanted her. And yeah, I realize that makes me sound like an egotistical ass, but this wasn’t my first rodeo. I saw the lust in her eyes, and the way she licked her lips and stared at my mouth. This wasn’t a one-way street, not even close.

“I guess I could stay a little longer,” she whispered. Christ, she was so sweet and soft. I wanted to bite her even more now. Suck that pouty lower lip into my mouth and shove a finger up her ass.

Break her.

You’re one sick fuck.

Why yes. Yes, I am. Thanks for noticing.

I managed to control the urge, catching her hand instead, giving it a friendly squeeze like some kind of pathetic tool. Her fingers tightened on mine, then she pulled away and snuggled back down under the blanket, raising her feet to rest on the coffee table. I grabbed the remote and clicked through the menu.

Tomorrow I’d do my job. I’d fuck Talia and spy on Marsh and look for any kind of weakness that might end this situation, the faster the better. Tonight, though . . . Tonight I’d pretend this wasn’t a waste of time.

Goddamn, but my dick hurt.

The next hour was torture.

Tinker sat next to me, all cute and classy and absolutely refusing to make any kind of eye contact. I don’t know how she felt, but to me the sexual tension hanging in the air was thick and heavy. I kept thinking about her hand in mine—small, but strong. The hand of someone who knew how to work hard. So far as I knew, Talia had never held down a job, let alone supported herself.

The couch shifted, and I glanced over to find Tinker sliding deeper into the cushions, drawing the blanket up to her chin. Our legs were maybe six inches apart. She shifted again, and then her hand bumped mine under the blanket. She jerked it back quickly, and I caught the hint of a flush on her cheeks. That was another thing I liked about her—her skin was so pale that I could see every hint of arousal.

Grabbing her hand, I pulled it over to rest on my thigh. This was a really bad idea, so I pointedly refused to think it through. Her hand tensed at first, then relaxed into my strength. My cock swelled against the fabric of my jeans, just inches from her fingers—it’d be so easy to push her hand toward it, wrap it around my painfully swollen dick, and just go to town.

Tinker’s fingers gave a quick squeeze—almost more of a spasm—and I bit back a groan.

Yeah, okay. Really, really bad idea. I should get off the couch and shut this shit down right now, because I couldn’t afford to blow things with Talia just yet. Instead I found myself leaning toward Tinker, bumping shoulders.

I’d grown a pussy. No other explanation, because I couldn’t figure out why the hell else an adult man would sit holding hands under a damned blanket like a kid.

I proposed on our first date.

She laughed and told me I was insane. Less than a day later, she said yes.

It was a whirlwind, but we were happy…

Until we got greedy and wanted a family.

It was a life I couldn’t give her, not for lack of trying. Fertility just wasn’t on our side. We sought out doctors and treatments. Spent money we didn’t have. Lied to our families. Smiled for our friends. Put on a brave face for a world that didn’t understand.

Finally, we were successful…

Until we were forced to bury our son.

We were left broken, battered, and destroyed.

They say love is in the details, but it was the details that ruined us.

This is the story of how I took back what had always been mine.

The retrieval of my wife and our family.

I broke.

I hated him.

My sole job in life became to protect our daughter.

I wasn’t sure I’d ever escape the prison he’d skillfully crafted from my fears.

Until the day our savior arrived.
