About EASY NIGHTS (Boudreaux Series #6)

The Boudreaux Series—Sexy. Intriguing. Easy.

No one said change was easy…

Savannah Boudreaux knows what it is to hurt. To bleed. To be afraid that the man she’s promised to be true to until “death do us part” might in fact separate them far sooner than anyone had ever anticipated. But Van also knows what it is to survive. To move on. To live life to the fullest. With five brothers and sisters and a loving mother as her constant source of strength during the pain and the healing, Van realizes there is little else she needs.

But some things never change…

Benjamin Preston sat on the sidelines of the Boudreaux family for years, in love with a woman he couldn’t have. As the best friend of the Boudreaux brothers since childhood, Ben has seen both tragedies and joys in the family. And as a former MMA fighter and KravMaga expert, Ben’s used to fighting for what he wants—and winning. His hands were tied when Savannah married her high school sweetheart not long after graduation, but now two years have passed since Ben found Savannah broken in her own home.

Sometimes what you need most has been right in front of you the whole time…

Van’s convinced that happiness isn’t in the cards for her, no matter how right it feels to be in Ben’s strong arms—and his bed. Ben is determined to win her heart and fight for her trust. He’s promised to protect her, to be her friend. But more than anything, he wants to finally make her his, and this is one fight he’s not willing to lose.

Son Of A Beard by Lani Lynn Vale Release Blitz & Review

Title: Son of a Beard
Series: The Dixie Wardens Rejects MC #3
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: April 27, 2017
Photographer: Golden at FuriousFotog
Cover Model: Tank Joey

Truth Alan Reacher was a biker. He was a bladesmith. What he was not, was a fool.

The moment he walked in on his girl screwing his cousin on his bike, he does the only thing he can do.

He ditches the bike seat—and the girl—riding right out of her life without a backwards glance.

That is until he’s forced to attend the marriage of his cousin to his cheating ex-girlfriend. The only bright spot of the entire thing was watching some chick go off on the groom—the groom’s ex-fiancé—right in the middle of the bouquet toss.

Verity Ruthann Cassidy was supposed to be here today attending this wedding as the bride, not watching the festivities as a guest from the chairs she’d painstakingly purchased covers for while her fiancé—now her ex-fiancé—screwed around on her with another woman.

The icing on the wedding cake that she refuses to eat? She’s forced to attend the wedding due to her mother being the wedding planner.

However, the night doesn’t turn out quite the way she expects it due to the hot-as-hell biker sitting in the chair directly beside her. The man gave one hell of a speech during the reception that sounded like something that could have come straight out of her own mouth, and she enjoyed every single second of it.

Thrown together under similarly lousy circumstances, the two newly single jilted former lovers of the happy couple decide to go to Vegas on what was to be Verity’s honeymoon trip.

One thing leads to another, and the next thing they know, their night has gone from a celebration of being single to a marriage—to each other.

Verity and Truth now have to figure out if everything that happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas.

“In true Lani Lynn Vale fashion, this plays like a movie, that has you going through all the feels. Super hot sexy times, major drama, and the perfect amount of danger to make things interesting but not over the top.” – MJ’s Book Blog and Reviews

“Son of a Beard is one WILD, ACTION-PACKED RIDE!” – Dani Hodge

“If you love a hot bladesmith, MC biker, former SEAL, with killer tattoos and a beard, with a strong and confident woman by his side when he allows, Then go and read this book. You won’t be sorry.” – Alpha Book Club

It doesn’t matter how many times I read a book by this author, I utterly and completely fall in love with the characters and their story.  In true Lani spirit she kept me gripped to my Kindle by turning a devastating betrayal into a beautiful love. Son of a Beard if filled with suspense, action, twists and turns, laughs and some steamy scenes.

Once you get through the prologue you will be cheering for Truth and Verity the entire way.  Truth is a member is the Dixie Warden Rejects but his real profession is a Bladesmith.  He’s hot, has tattoos and is a sexy biker but he’s so much more than that. He was pretty amazing and I couldn’t get enough of him. Verity was a great female leading character, despite having her life changed drastically she keeps moving with dignity and class. What do two people do when both of their cheating mates get married and invite them to the wedding?  Well you go together that’s what you do.

Truth is a protector and sometimes unsure of life. Things have not been easy for him. I swear this book made me laugh so hard, even when they find out they were cheated on they made it funny!  Truth and Verity were perfect together. I loved the push and pull and the banter just made it easier to love them.  What’s starts of as sex turns into so much more.  While one is determined to shut the other out the other is prepared to push their way through.  This is a Lani Lynn Vale book so you are going to get some angst and of course repeat visits from said cheating duo.  I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series, Ghosts book looks like it will be so promising. I highly recommend.

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Carolyn Brown’s begins an all-new series of rugged cowboys.

“This is an emotional star-crossed lovers tale with tangible depths and an attitude that’s relatable to real life.” –RT Book Reviews

Last time Lila Harris was in Happy, Texas, she was actively earning her reputation as the resident wild child. Now, a little older and wiser, she’s back to run her mother’s café for the summer. Except something about this town has her itching to get a little reckless and rowdy, especially when she sees her old partner-in-crime, Brody Dawson. Their chemistry is just as hot as ever. But he’s still the town’s golden boy-and she’s still the wrong kind of girl.

Brody hasn’t had much time lately for anything other than ranching. Running the biggest spread in the county and taking care of his family more than keeps him busy. All that responsibility has him longing for the carefree days of high school—and Lila. She may have grown up, but he still sees that spark of mischief in her eyes. Now he’s dreaming about late-night skinny dipping and wondering how he can possibly resist the one woman he can never forget…

She picked up her pace, but Brody matched his long strides with hers.

“Don’t feel like you have to walk me my vehicle. I’m a big girl and I’ve been takin’ care of myself for years.”

“You’ve always been able to take care of yourself, Lila, but I want to walk with you.” His hand went to her lower back.

The intense heat would probably leave an imprint on her back for days, but she didn’t argue or shrug his hand away.

When they reached her bright pink truck, he gave a low whistle. “Nice.”

She found her keys and touched a button that started the engine. “I left the motorcycle at home.”

“Oh, really?” His expression said that he didn’t believe her.

“Yep, I didn’t want to get to the bar and have helmet head.”

“Are you serious?”

“Why would you be so surprised? I am, after all, the resident wild child of Happy, Texas. I’m surprised there’s not a picture of me beside the city limits sign warning everyone to steer clear of that Lila Harris. If you rub shoulders with her, you get an instant ticket to hell. Do not pass go. Do not collect two hundred dollars. Just get ready for the ride.”

“Motorcycles are dangerous. You shouldn’t…”

She laid a finger over his lips. “When we were back in high school, I stayed on that bull for eight seconds and climbed to the top of the water tower. You didn’t fuss at me about those things, but wait—you were right there too. Well, darlin’, buy a Harley and we’ll terrorize Happy together.”

Brody stepped closer, penning her against the truck door. She put both hands on his chest with intentions of pushing him away, but she made the mistake of looking up into his eyes. Lashes slowly closed to rest on his cheek bones and she barely had time to moisten her lips before she was swept away by a scorching hot kiss.

She knew she should push him back, but instead her arms went around his neck and she touched his bottom lip with her tongue. He groaned and opened his mouth, deepening the kiss into fiery hot passion. She would have been there until daylight, but he finally stepped back, picked up her hand and kissed her palm twice.

“One kiss for the Lila I remember, and the other for the woman that she’s become. Both are very special.”  Then Brody turned and disappeared into the darkness.

Faking it With Damian by DJ Hunnam Blog Tour, Review & Giveaway

Faking It with Damian
DJ Hunnam
Publication date: January 23rd 2017
Genres: Contemporary, Erotica, Romance

I don’t do relationships… especially not with egotistical jerks like my new boss, Damian Wood. The man is vile, arrogant, condescending… and scorching hot. If he weren’t my boss and a grade-A a*&hole, I would turn on my world-famous charm and seduce the pants right off the man. But giving in to his undeniable allure might just cost me my job. Or worse yet, my heart.

I’m a prick…and Janice Holder’s new boss. Which means I should stay away, but I’ve never claimed to be a nice guy. If I don’t get my twisted fascination under control, it will only be a matter of time before I bend her over my desk and screw her. Hard. The way I’ve imagined no fewer than a thousand times since we met. I’m playing with fire and neither of us can afford to get burned, but landing in hot water might just be worth the risk.

Faking It is a full-length, standalone office romance. It contains steamy scenes with a ton of heat and strong language intended for mature audiences.

Goodreads / Amazon

This is the story of Janice who is a part time ZUMBA instructor. Being a ZUMBA Instructor myself I loved that about the story. I really enjoyed all the parts in the book that took place during Janice’s ZUMBA classes. I could totally relate to it. Janice didn’t’ do relationships. Her father left her when she was young and with her mothers illness she was afraid of commitment. She didn’t want to be hurt. Damian was just hot. He knew what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to go for it. I loved the chemistry between the two and the dialogue between them was great especially the inner thoughts of Janice. Even though Damian went through a traumatic experience during his life it didn’t’ deter him.

“Don’t confuse my willingness to try as certainty. I have no idea what’s going to happen between us. But, unlike you, I’m not going to let the horrors of my past dictate the decisions I make abut my future.”

Even though I loved the inner thoughts of Janice I just couldn’t connect with her on a deeper level. I understood that she had a rough childhood but I felt like she needed to get over it and move on.

The story moved at a good pace and written really well. All though I was waiting for some huge dramatic plot twist the story kept me intrigued and even though I wasn’t a big Janice fan I liked the connection that she had with Damian and her best friend. I would certainly read another book by this author.

As a USA Today Bestselling author, I write stories that are deeply emotional with flawed characters, because humans ARE flawed and if we read about perfect characters living in their perfect world, first of all, snoozer, but secondly, we never experience the gratification of redemption.Outside of writing, I’m just a regular ol’ Midwest girl who likes Game of Thrones and am obsessed with Modern Family and The Goldbergs. It was a Friday night, two in the morning, and my two best friends were shrieking in drunken laughter behind me. I sighed as I pulled into the gas station. My little Corolla had been chugging near empty for the last few miles. And I’ll admit that I’d been worried we would’ve broken down on the side of the road, not for my car’s sake, for my sake. I didn’t know if I could’ve handled walking with Lydia and Jessica. And on cue, Lydia rammed her elbow in the back of my head.

“Oh, Sam!” Muffled laughter. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean—” She dissolved in laughter once more.

Jessica wrapped her hands around the passenger seat and leaned forward. “Can we go to another party?”

“No.” I unclipped my seat belt and started to get out.

They scrambled out, or tried. Lydia tripped and was nearly clocked by my side mirror. Jessica tumbled after and leaned her weight on Lydia’s shoulders so she wouldn’t fall while she sidestepped over her.

What a friend.

“Why not? It’s our last Friday night before school. Come on, Sam!”

Lydia stood and straightened out her skirt and top. When her boobs were back in place and the skirt barely covered her ass, she turned her pleading eyes on me too. “It’ll be fun. Come on! I know where a public party is.”

Jessica whirled to her. “Oh! That sounds awesome.”

They bounced together. Both wore flowing skirts, tight tops, and brown curls that flung everywhere. When one hit me in the face, I swatted it away.

“I’m taking you guys home. You’re both drunk.”

“Come on, you’re such a loser tonight,” Lydia moaned.

Jessica frowned and flipped her hair over her shoulder. “Yeah, you are. What’s going on with you?”

“Did you and Jeffrey have a fight?” Lydia’s eyebrows wiggled up and down. She peeled over in laughter once more.

I gave them my polite fuck off smile and each rolled their eyes. Then Lydia lifted her nose and got a whiff of gas station pizza. Her stomach growled and off they went. As I watched them skip together, holding hands, and giggling over the fact they were drunk, I leaned back against my car.

While the gas was guzzling into my car, I heard Jessica’s question again. Was something wrong with me? And I sighed. Only my whole world had changed that afternoon. I could see my mother’s face when I had left Jessica’s house and went home for the afternoon. We’d all been so happy to go out that night. Even me. Yes, Jeffrey was usually an ass, but a small part of me had wondered if tonight was going to be the night we slept together. He’d been my boyfriend for three years now. He was nice, well, he was a douche at times, but he still seemed to like me. And I liked him too, but while my mother had been happy jumping from bed to bed before she got knocked up with me, I didn’t want to end up like that. So I had taken everything slow with Jeff, but when I got home to get ready for the party that night, little butterflies were in my stomach.

They died and burned in flames when I opened my front door. Boxes upon boxes were lined inside and in the middle of them sat my mother. A bottle of wine was half empty beside her as she sat in her silk bathrobe. Tears coated her face, but when she saw me a bright smile was forced out.

“Hey, honey.” Hiccup. “How are you?”

I let the door go and it slammed shut behind me. “What happened?”

“Oh.” She gave me a dismissive wave. “Nothing. You don’t need to worry about a thing.”

“Worry about what?”

“We’re going to be fine.”

I hadn’t moved. My purse still hung from my arm. “Mom, what happened?” Boxes were everywhere, even in the kitchen. I saw two empty wine bottles in the sink.

“You and me, honey. We’re going to be just fine.”

“Where’s dad?”

Her hands froze. She’d been taping up a box, but she sucked in her breath and held still.

She finished the rest of her wine and she almost fell backwards from the effort. When she set the bottle aside, I asked again, “Mom, what’s going on?”

She started sobbing. “Oh honey. I’m so sorry about this. I really am.”

“Mom! What’s going on?”

“Ifellinlovewithsomeoneelsean dwe’releavingyourfather.” She hiccupped again and swiped at some of her tears.

She took a deep breath. “I…we’re leaving your father.”

My insides screamed at her. My hands curled into fists and I wanted to launch myself at her. I wanted to pound the hell out of her, but I didn’t do any of that. Instead, I collapsed on one of the couches and I listened to everything she said. She’d fallen in love with someone else. She wanted to be with him. She told dad, he kicked us out, and tomorrow we were going to move in with this boyfriend of hers.

“Huh?” She lifted tear-stained eyes to me.

A soft sob and she whispered, “James Kade.”

“James Kade?”

She nodded and wiped her arm over her face. “He has two boys your age, honey. You might know them.”

Know them? Everyone knew them. Mason and Logan Kade. While they were rich, their dad owned five of the factories that our town thrived on, they chose to go to public school. Everyone knew the Kade brothers. They could’ve gone to the private school, where most of the rich kids went, or where I went because my dad was the football coach, but they’d shaken everything up when they chose public school.

And now I was going to be living with them?

As I watched my mom, who sobbed as if she’d been the one cheated on, something shriveled up inside of me. I would never be like my mother. Never. And sorry, Jeff, but that meant he wasn’t going to be getting laid by me for a very very long time.

However, after I had spent most of the afternoon and evening packing my things, he wasn’t excited to hear my change of plans when Lydia and Jessica waited for me to go to the party that night. In fact, he’d been a jerk. Not surprising. A few choice curse words, a few beers guzzled, and he wiped his mouth clean of me.

“I’ll get someone better, bitch. You’re not the only hot chick here.” And off he went. His jeans rode low, a beer in hand, and his hair gelled into badass spikes.

I rolled my eyes and went in search for my friends.

Heaven help me, but Jeff would be back. I was at the point where I wasn’t sure if I cared or not.

An Escalade wheeled into the slot beside mine. At first I didn’t pay attention, lost in my world-ending daydreams, but when someone shouted all my attention snapped back to reality.

Four boys spilled out of the vehicle and two passed by me.

I sucked in my breath.

“Fuck that, man. Let’s go to Molly’s instead,” one boy laughed as he hung on his friend. He threw his head back and laughed on a carefree note. His brown curls danced and he seemed invigorated. “You’ll get pussy there. Promise.”

He laughed another maniacal laugh before the two disappeared inside.

My hands clenched the gas nozzle tightly and I couldn’t take my eyes off of him.

Logan Kade, my soon-to-be-roommate. While I watched through the window, he laughed at something his friend said. Lydia and Jessica saw who was in the other aisle and quickly went to flirt with them. The friend looked interested, but Logan skimmed a bored eye over them and went back for something more inside the store.

I hadn’t seen the Kade brothers up close, not in a long time, but I’d heard plenty about them. Logan was a junior, like me. Mason was a year older. Both were good looking and Mason was rumored to be six foot one with a muscular build. He played defensive lineman for a reason on his football team. Logan had the leaner build, but he was an inch shorter.

I snorted to myself. I couldn’t believe I even knew these details. As I cursed my friends inside for their gossiping ways, I glanced back at the Escalade and froze once more. Two green eyes stared back at me.

Mason had been filling up his vehicle and watching me the whole time.

I swallowed painfully and was barely aware that my gas was done. I couldn’t look away from him.

Logan was handsome. There was no doubt about that, but he had nothing against his older brother. Now I understood why so many gossiped and whispered about the Kade brothers. The hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up and my eyes were locked with his in some sort of battle.

I couldn’t look away. I just knew that.

His friend rounded the vehicle and leaned beside him. Both watched me and I saw the grin come to his friend. He crossed his feet and looked like he was at the movies, popcorn and all.

Then he said something and Mason smirked at me.

“Mase, dude. Candy flavored condoms.” Logan leapt across the lot and did a small dance when he handed a box to his brother.

I knew I shouldn’t have been watching, but I couldn’t stop myself. I was riveted by both brothers. Logan was bobbing his head in rhythm with the music that blared from the gas station’s speakers while Mason hadn’t taken his eyes from mine.

That’s when I knew without a doubt that he knew who I was.

I sucked in my breath and my knees trembled for a moment. What’d I do? Did I do something? Then I remembered my mom sitting in between all those boxes, tears down her face, and an empty bottle of wine beside her.

Fuck them. And fuck their dad.

My mom wasn’t a saint. I knew that for sure, but she’d been with my dad for the last seventeen years. Now she cheated? Now she decided we should move in with her new boyfriend and his family?

Fuck them all.

My eyes hardened. Mason’s narrowed. And I sneered at him before I went inside to pay. When I came back out, Lydia and Jessica were still in the bathroom; Mason passed me to pay inside. He wore a black leather jacket over a black shirt and jeans. His black hair was cut short and his eyes held mine in some form of trance as he passed by me. His jacket rubbed against me, he passed so close, and we both turned to watch the other.

My heart faltered for a moment.

The same hatred I felt for him was in his eyes.

Fuck him.

I lifted my lip to sneer at him and I knew he read the message because he narrowed his eyes, but shouldered inside the store.

I sighed and went to my car to wait. Logan and their friends were inside the Escalade, laughing about something. Then the door pinged its exit and I stiffened. I knew who’d be coming again.

I looked, I couldn’t help it, and met Mason’s gaze as he neared me. He paused close to my car and looked like he was going to stop. I lifted my head up, ready for whatever he was going to lay on me, but two cars screeched to a halt not far from us.

His eyes snapped up. “What the hell?”

“Hey losers!” a guy yelled and cursed at them as he ran from the car with something smoking in his hand.

“Oh hell!”

Logan and their friends were out of the car in an instant. Mason rushed past me and I stood there, shocked, as all four dragged the guys from the other cars. Logan grabbed the smoking thing from the guy’s hand and gave it to his brother. Mason took it and threw it in the first car. And the rest of the doors were flung open. Guys from that car poured out. Then another smoking thing was produced and Logan flung it into the other car.

Their two friends were still punching some of the other guys. Mason and Logan started punching the rest. It wasn’t long before the cars were filling up with smoke and I got the first whiff of fire.

“Oh no,” I muttered to myself and dashed to the store. After I flung open the door, I screamed, “Lydia, Jessica, get out here now!”

They rushed from the back section and stared, dumbfounded at me. “Sam, what’s going on?”

I latched onto Lydia’s arm and dragged her out with me. “We’re leaving. Now.”

Jessica followed behind, but braked in the middle of the lot. Her eyes were wide as she took in the sight before her.

I shoved Lydia inside the car and twisted around. “Get lost! The cars are going to explode.”

Mason and Logan’s friends heard me and stopped. They grabbed Logan first, but all of them dragged Mason away from the guy he was punching. Fury lit up his face, but when Logan said something in his ear, he turned and leapt for his Escalade. As he climbed inside, his eyes met mine for a second.

I shrugged and shoved Jessica behind Lydia inside mine. Then I hurried into my car and we were out of there in a flash.

Everything happened so fast.

Lydia and Jessica were bowled over in the back. “I can’t believe that happened!”

“What did happen?”

“Logan Kade is so hot.”

Jessica snorted. “Logan is? Didn’t you see Mason? I’d do him in a heartbeat.”

Lydia moaned. “Let me go to bed with my dreams right now. Why can’t they go to our school?”

Jessica grinned again. “I heard it’s because public school is tougher. They didn’t want a pansy school.”

Lydia fanned herself. “Whatever. I don’t care. I’m transferring.”

Then Jessica grew serious. “You think that’ll be on the news?”

Lydia lifted her shoulders. “All I know is, how are we supposed to go home now? Sam, please, please, please can we go to another party? I bet I know where they’re going.”

I dropped them off at the party and left for home.

Spark In The Ashes by Nikki Groom Blog Tour, Review & Giveaway

Spark in the Ashes (Steel Souls #1)

by Nikki Groom

Releases 24th April

Sadie Foster is consumed with revenge. The quiet beauty she portrays on the outside disguises the rage bubbling within her. Because on the inside, her desire for retribution dominates her every waking thought, until him…

Ramsey Dalton is an outlaw. A criminal that will do whatever it takes to get what he wants and to keep his MC brothers safe. He didn’t know there could be more to his life than sex, drugs and death, until her…

Their meeting is pure chance. Their connection undeniable. But what neither of them know, is that their relationship threatens to uncover far more than they could have imagined.

Secrets and lies are best left buried, but sometimes they’re too real to stay dead.

“Do you have any idea what you got involved in tonight, little girl?” His voice is low, dangerous, and for the first time since I woke, fear taps at each bone as it trickles down my spine and he moves closer. “I might not know your name, but I do know what you’ve done. What are you, some kind of femme fatale? You on a mission to rid the world of all the bad guys?” He chuckles to himself then stops with his body flush to mine. I hold his gaze, refusing to back off, feeling the fire in his eyes burning through mine. He strokes a finger lightly along my temple and down my cheek. “You got daddy issues?” he whispers.

“Fuck. You.” I shove at his chest, but he doesn’t budge an inch which only increases my frustration.

“Oh, sweetheart, usually I would take a girl up on such an offer, but—”

I bring my hand up to slap him, but he catches my wrist and grabs the other one in a flash, roughly pinning them to my side. “Oh no, you don’t.” He laughs under his breath, but his gaze is anything but humorous. “You got a lucky shot in last time. That kinda luck doesn’t happen twice.” He leans in close, pushing my hair from my face gently with his cheekbone and settling his hot breath over my ear. “Now, we can do this the easy way, or the hard way. I’m not above binding you again—” He pauses, letting a few heated breaths brush across my skin. “So tell me, are you going to bend and comply? Which will make it so much easier for you, or am I going to have to wrangle your twisted little soul into submission?”

Steel Souls is book #1 in what promises to be a great series.  The start of this book was epic and the author didn’t let up from that moment on.  Spark in the Ashes was an MC romance story filled with action, suspense, and plenty of steam.  I loved how much the author made the characters and storyline relatable.

Ramsey and Sadie are two pretty amazingly, strong characters that really make this story pretty amazing but we also get some very interesting side characters as well.  Ramsey is the VP of the Steel Souls. He is a bad ass biker who immediately is taken in by the ravens haired beauty, Sadie.  Ramsey doesn’t do relationships or so he thinks. I loved  seeing his inner battle with his heart and mind.  The man was a goner from the start.  Our first impression of Sadie is impacting.  I love that she’s not a docile female leading character.  She has some serious demons, she lives for revenge and to right terrible wrongs.  She’s very focused and determined to protect innocent women and children. She won’t let anyone stop her, well that was before she met Ramsey.

Let me tell you if any two people belonged together it is these characters. They both have pasts that have made them into the people they are today. Together they are a force so strong nothing can break them.  This story is gritty, fast paced and at times dark.  There are some events that some readers might find difficult but it adds to the edge of a perfectly well written story. This is start of a story that brought my to my knees and kept me clenching my Kindle to the end.  I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

In Lost Rider, the first Western romance in New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Harper Sloan’s Coming Home series, an injured rodeo star encounters an old flame but will she be just what he needs to get back in the saddle?

Maverick Austin Davis is forced to return home after a ten-year career as a rodeo star. After one too many head injuries, he’s off the circuit and in the horse farming business, something he’s never taken much of a shine to, but now that it’s his late father’s legacy, familial duty calls. How will Maverick find his way after the only dream he ever had for himself is over?

Enter Leighton Elizabeth James, an ugly duckling turned beauty from Maverick’s childhood—his younger sister’s best friend, to be exact, and someone whose heart he stomped all over when she confessed her crush to him ten years back. Now Leighton is back in Maverick’s life, no longer the insecure, love-stricken teen—and Maverick can’t help but take notice. Sparks fly between them, but will Leighton be able to open her heart to the one man who broke it all those years ago?

Written in the vein of Diana Palmer and Lindsay McKenna, this Texas-set series is filled with sizzle, heart, and plenty of cowboys!

I have read several books from the Corps Security series by Harper Sloan and loved them and must say I truly have forgotten how much I love this author’s writing.  I am usually not a lover of cowboy romances but as soon as I read the blurb for this one I knew I had to check it out.

Maverick Davis left Leighton James heartbroken ten years ago after she poured her heart out and then stomped all over it.  He had to get out and leave Pine Oak behind and went on to live his dream.  Now ten years later that dream life of being a rodeo bull rider can be no longer after one too many concussions and he is forced to return home and face all the heartbreak he left behind so many years ago.  Leighton has never truly stopped loving him and is now faced to realize that face upon Mav’s return.  Will she be able to forgive him and move past all the hurt to finalize have the life she dreamed of.

This one I must say sucked me in from the start and when I soon realized this was much more of a second chance romance than the blurb led me to believe, I truly was a goner.  I am a huge sucker of second chance romances, as like with most of them and especially in the case of this one, the emotion and love that is shared between the characters is so powerful that you can’t not help to feel it.  The moment these two got in the same room, you could not only feel the chemistry and attraction these share but you could feel the passion and the depth of their love.  But they both are stubborn and have a lot of hurt and memories of the past they need to get past in order to heal and move forward.

This book was such a great mix of hurt but also healing, so much sweet tender love, and so much hotness.  The chemistry between Maverick and Leighton was off the charts and I absolutely loved both these characters.  I must say thought that cowboys don’t normally do it for me but Maverick Davis sure did.  Oh how I loved Maverick.  He was your typical hot sexy cowboy but oh how he was so much more.  He truly loved Leighton with everything he had, you see that right from the start.  He may have hurt her but he was young and stupid, trying to escape the horrible life he was living under his father’s rule and it was the only way he thought he could truly escape.  But I love how he is back and determined to not only fix but heal all the hurt he has caused.  I loved Leighton’s character.  She was such a strong female lead and I loved how determined she was, especially when it came to Maverick Davis.  From the moment these two first stepped into a room together you could truly see that they both had a piece of themselves missing and that piece was each other.  They completed each other and the love they shared was truly an epic love story.

I loved the premise of the book and truly loved how the author played out the storyline.  The book itself was a great length but never did the story drag or fall flat nor was the progression slow.  But at the same time, even though this book was filled with a fair amount of emotions and angst as well as some twists and turns I truly didn’t see coming, this book was never filled with over the top drama nor that back and forth play of being back together then torn apart, which I honestly expected to happen with how the storyline began to play out.  So I must say, this book, although I knew I would enjoy it having loved this author’s writing and her characters, I was pleasantly surprised that this book didn’t play out like I thought it would, in the predictable manner most second chance romances do.  This book was not only about Leighton and Maverick finding their way back to each other and living the life they both always wanted and dreamed of, it was also about  them as well Quinn and Clay healing form the past.   I absolutely loved this book hard and am so excited that this is not the end for this great cast of characters, I love that we will get Quinn’s story and next hopefully that will be followed shortly after by Clay’s.

ISBN: 9781250142016

Price: $4.99

Colin Spencer is a tattoo artist with a past he’d prefer to keep a secret. Actually, he has a few secrets that he’d rather people didn’t know about, which is why Colin doesn’t do commitment. But when a shy sailor approaches him at the gym, Colin finds this guy pushing all his buttons.

Growing up in a conservative family, then escaping with the Navy, Daniel Moore is an unsure virgin who feels like he can’t share his true self with anyone. Seeing Colin—and his tattoos—at the gym are the sign Daniel needs to finally get those tattoos he’s always wanted, and maybe try his hand at flirting.

As Colin and Daniel spend more time together, their awkward hesitations turn into a deep passion neither expected. But with both men harboring secrets, will their relationship be able to survive their insecurities and become something beautiful?

Back Piece by L.A. Witt is a sexy, emotional journey of two people learning to love and finding acceptance for who they really are.

L.A. Witt also writes under the name Lauren Gallagher.

Outside, some of the guys from the gym were milling around in the parking lot, so Colin took Daniel around the back of the building where they’d have some privacy. There he stopped and faced him, fighting the urge to fidget nervously. “So, how’s the tattoo healing?”

“Good. Good.” Daniel shifted his weight. “It’s still kinda itchy, but it’s getting better.”

Colin grimaced sympathetically. “That’s the worst part. The pain I can deal with, but the itching sucks. You’re not scratching it, are you?”

“No, of course not.”

Their eyes met, and they both smiled, but quickly looked away. Awkwardness didn’t even have to set in—it was already present and accounted for.

After a moment, Colin raked a hand through his hair. “Look, things went really fast the other night, and I’m sorry. I mean, maybe—”

“No. No.” Daniel shook his head. “You didn’t do anything wrong. I just kind of freaked out.”

“But . . . why?” Colin struggled to hold his gaze. “Did I make you nervous?”

“No, you didn’t. But what we were doing . . . yeah. It did. Kinda.” He paused. “Okay, a lot.”

“So, how is that not me making you nervous?”

Color bloomed in Daniel’s cheeks, but blushing wasn’t as cute this time. He seemed genuinely uncomfortable and embarrassed, and Colin’s stomach turned with guilt over putting him in this position.

Daniel took a breath and met his gaze again. “The thing is, that was . . .” He scratched the back of his neck and added a barely audible, “My first time.”

“Your . . .” Colin blinked. “Are you serious?”

Daniel was bright red now, and nodded. “Yeah. I mean, I made out with a guy while I was on cruise, but otherwise . . .” He laughed uneasily. “I’m a virgin.”

Colin stared at him. “Really?”

“Wasn’t it obvious?”

“Not from the way you kissed, no.”

Daniel gave a soft, self-conscious laugh. “Beginner’s luck, I guess.”

“Something like that.”

Daniel moistened his lips. “So it wasn’t that I didn’t want to do anything the other night. I did. And it was . . .” He laughed again and looked at Colin. “It was amazing. I know I took off and all, but it was fucking . . .” He whistled, shaking his head.

Colin smiled. “Good. I was worried I’d maybe gone too fast. Pushed you too far.”

“No. It wasn’t your fault. I mean, I liked it. A lot. And I definitely want it. More. More of it. I just . . . I . . .” He pinched the bridge of his nose, pausing as if trying to collect his thoughts. “Okay, the reason I freaked out is afterward, I thought you’d want me to reciprocate. And I . . .” He dropped his hand and stared at the ground between them. “Man, I don’t have a fucking clue what I’m doing. I guess I was scared you’d be disappointed.”

“Disappointed?” Colin shook his head. “No, not at all.”

“Yeah.” Daniel laughed humorlessly. “That’s because I left before I had a chance to make an ass of myself.”

“My God. Did you think . . .” Colin cautiously stepped closer. “You wouldn’t have made an ass of yourself.”

Daniel said nothing.

Colin advanced again, and now he had to be well within Daniel’s comfort zone. He halted, giving Daniel a chance to pull back if he wasn’t comfortable, and when Daniel didn’t move, Colin reached for him. He paused, glancing around to make absolutely sure they were still alone out here, and then slid a hand around Daniel’s waist, his own skin prickling with goose bumps even before Daniel’s breath hitched. “So you’re afraid you won’t be good at it, right?”

Daniel nodded, still avoiding Colin’s eyes.

“Is that the only thing stopping you?”

“Definitely.” Daniel hesitated, but finally made eye contact. “Because I really, really wanted to keep going last time.”

Colin grinned. “Is that right?”

“Well, my house is just over there.” He nodded past Daniel. “Five minute walk, and my brother works nights, so we’ll have it to ourselves.” He lifted his eyebrows. “You want to?”

Daniel gulped. Then he whispered, “Yes, please.”

This is my first book by this author and I assure you it won’t be my last.  I’m a fan of military and m/m romance and honestly this blurb sounded like it was something right up my alley. I can say I definitely wasn’t disappointed. This author did am amazing job in writing Daniel and Collins story.  The story was beautiful and intriguing but it also deals with homophobia and acceptance.

I love a man with a tattoo but when you make that 2 men, I’m a goner.  What I loved most about this story was how we got to see these characters develop and a friendship that later evolved into more.  Colin is a tattoo artist who is openly gay, Daniel is in the Navy and has recently come out to members in his crew.

Daniel is not experienced, he’s shy but so curious.  Colin is not afraid of who he is and he’s experienced.  I loved how Colin was so patient with Daniel. He  understood his inexperience so he never pushed him.  This is why I really enjoyed this book besides the sex (which lordy was scrumptious), Daniel and Colin actually got to know one another.  I really loved seeing the connection they have and the relationship really felt real.

Of course things are not easy for Daniel and Colin but they try to understand each others lives and make adjustments along the way.  We see a shy Daniel come into his own and become more adventurous.  We see both men’s insecurities turn into strengths when they have to face the ugliness of homophobia.  I loved the support system both men had with their other friends.  These friends helped to guide them through the uncertainties they experienced.  This was a great book that was full of promise and hope, I can’t wait to see what comes next.
