Once again Lisa Renee Jones does not disappoint with her phenomenal writing and amazing characters.  Although this author has been writing for some time now and has written quite a few popular books, a few I had read in the past, I must say it’s only been in the last year that I have become a really big fan of her books.  She is now a definite one click author for me.  Why do you say she hasn’t been that one click author until recent, well her type of book is not my normal read and not the type of usually enjoy but there is just something about her writing that keeps sucking me in and makes me fall in love with not only her stories but her characters as well.

Shameless is the conclusion in the White Lies Duet so if you haven’t read Provocative yet, do not read any further, STOP now.  Faith’s passion is to paint.  Although thanks to her father, her destiny is to run the family winery, a winery her mother has driven in to debt after her father’s death.  Nick, unbeknown to Faith has a connection to her through his father and her mother.  He originally seeks out Faith as he believes that she is responsible for both their deaths but upon meeting her and getting to know her he realizes quickly that is not true.  He becomes immediately taken by her and has to have her.  But it also leaves a mystery of who killed them and why.  And how will Faith take the truth when it finally comes out of who Nick really is.

I love this author’s writing because every time this author totally sucks me into her stories immediately, and I am usually left sitting on the edge of my seat.  I truly don’t know how she does it time and time again as these books are not my normal type of reads I enjoy.  I love fun and flirty romances, not suspenseful angsty romances with a touch of erotica added but somehow she has me loving it every damn time.  I don’t even hesitate now, she’s a guaranteed one click.

I must add though, she truly solidified her one click status when I noticed just recently that in her series books at the beginning of each book she gives us a summary of the prior book to bring us up to speed of what happened and where we left off but also includes a glossary type of summary of her main characters in the story.  I absolutely love this and love that she takes the time to include this.  I read so many books and lead such a busy life as a full time working mom, it’s hard to remember all details between the release of each book in the series.  So to get several pages to bring you back up to speed so that come starting chapter one you are already back up to speed on where you left off and not having to spend the first 3-4 chapters having it slowly all come back to you, it truly increased my reading enjoyment of her books.

This book like the first one had a lot of freaking hot scenes, and I mean hot.  This lady truly knows how to write some amazing sex scenes, it has that side of erotica to it but I love that she never over does it nor does she fill her books up with sex scene after sex scene. And I also must add those scenes always came at the right parts, it never felt like it was just a scene thrown in there just to add sex to the story.  When it comes to adding sex to a story, this lady truly knows what she is doing.

Nick, OMG, Nick.  I fell in love with him in Provacative but I truly fell even further in love with him in Shameless.  He was hot and sexy as F#$K.  Yes he was cocky and stubborn and a “Tiger” I wouldn’t want to mess with, especially in the courtroom.  But when it came to Faith, he was loving, he was caring, he was so very supportive and protective of her.  To be loved by a man like Nick would be intense but oh so very amazing.

I loved how independent Faith’s character was in the first book and I loved even more that she didn’t lose that when the story continued on in this book.  But I also loved that even with all her independence and her trust issues, she also slowly let Nick in and let him be that supporting and loving man in her life.  I truly loved the dynamic the author built between these two and enjoyed the progression in their relationship.  They relationship was intense and it grew over only a matter of weeks but it never ever felt like it was a insta-love story.

Once again this author truly did not disappoint.  From the moment I picked this one up I was hooked and pulled right back into their story and left sitting on the edge of my seat.  I must say this one was a really enjoyable story with some great suspense and really great characters.  The one thing I did find was after the story playing out over the two books at a really great pace, I found playout of the ending to be really rushed.  I also found that the story wrap-up left me still with questions about some of the detail, we found out the main big details but it was the some of the little things that I still had questions on.  Take the rush ending and the few remaining questions I had out of the equation and this one was a 5 star read.

The Difference Between Us (Opposites Attract #2) by Rachel Higginson Release Blitz & Review

I’m cursed.

At least when it comes to finding Mr. Right.

I’m tired of men that only want one night stands or blind dates that are nothing but awkward and uncomfortable. I’m tired of avoiding inappropriate text messages and the constant disappointment of always meeting Mr. Wrong.

After all these years of dates that lead nowhere, I can admit that it’s me. I’m the problem. I’m shy and picky and cursed. Definitely cursed.

So I’ve decided two things.

The first? I’m giving up dating and relationships and men in general. Maybe, possibly, forever.

The second? I’m going to have to try harder to avoid Ezra Baptiste.

If I couldn’t hack it in the kiddy pool of dating, I certainly can’t swim in his deep end. He’s too successful. Too intense. He’s all man when I’m used to nothing but boys pretending to be grownups. He’s everything I’m afraid to want and so far out of my league we might as well be different species entirely.

So he’ll need to find a different artist to paint his mural. And a different graphic designer to help him with his website. He’ll need to find someone else to glare at and flirt with and kiss.

It can’t be me.

We’re too different.

My phone buzzed with an incoming email and I resisted the urge to check it during the middle of spin class. I could wait to open it. I didn’t need to know what it said just this second.

Really, it would be fine.

It could wait.

I could wait.

The sender could wait until after I’d sweated off the three pounds of pasta I’d gained this week from my favorite Italian takeout spot to hear back from me.

I couldn’t help the small smile of anticipation that lifted the corners of my mouth though or the way I suddenly didn’t notice the pain from pushing up the hill climb at five-forty-five a.m. Resisting the urge to pick up my phone, I opted for my water bottle instead.

But even after a big, refreshing gulp, I still didn’t manage to lose the smile.

“Why do you look happy?” Vera panted next to me, her legs moving approximately one thousand miles per hour. “You should be miserable right now. At the very least you should be contemplating puking. No smiling.”

“I think I see Jesus,” I wheezed said serenely. “I’ve pedaled myself to death. He’s coming to get me.”

Vann chuckled on my other side. “This is only the warmup.”

“Stop showing off, Vann.” My smile disappeared. “We get it. You’re a super cyclist. The bike seat up your ass isn’t bothering you at all. Stop bragging.” To Vera, I said, “Why did you invite him again?”

“Hey!” Vann protested.

She rolled her eyes. “I didn’t invite him. I tried very hard to keep this a secret from him. But when he heard we were doing something bicycle related, he invited himself.”

“I’m here to motivate you,” he said seriously. “This is good for you girls. You both are in serious need of some cardio.”

“Your face is in serious need of some cardio,” Vera snarled back. At my look of not-the-best-insult-you’ve-ever-come-up-with, she shrugged. “My brain is still sleepy.”

Vann leaned forward on his bike, lifting his bum off the seat and adjusting his bike to make it harder for himself. Because he was crazy and liked weird things- like exercise. This was the end of our friendship forever. I officially hated him. His overachieving did nothing to motivate me to work harder. This was it. This was as hard as I spinned. Spun? My brain was sleepy too.

I first fell in love with this author’s writing in reading The 5 Stages of Falling in Love.  Her writing was so beautiful and the story truly touched my heart.  I then picked up Every Wrong reason next and loved that one as well.  Both were very emotional and touching stories.  So I must say when I saw that her newest release with a enemies to lovers story, I was intrigued to see what her writing would be like with a bit of a different style from the other two.  Well she did not disappoint, she totally knocked it out of the park with The Opposite of You.  So needless to say I was so happy when I saw that we would be getting Molly and Ezra’s story next while still getting a bit more of Vera and Killan.

Molly is a designer at a graphic design company trying to focus on her career and has given up on men and dating.  But seeing how happy her best friend Vera is now that she has found her Happily ever after, makes her want to find it too.  Ezra is the friend of Vera and Killan and the owner of several high end restaurants, including the former restaurant Killan worked at.  No matter how much she tries to avoid him it seems that her path keeps crossing his and he is determined to get her to work for him with redesigning his logo and his restaurants social media image.  Killian is sexy and she is attracted to him but his stubborn and hard headed just like her but something keeps drawing her to him and she can’t stop herself.

We first meet both Molly and Ezra in the first book in this series, The Opposite of You.  We got to get to know these characters and see the first few initial meetings that didn’t go so well so I was definitely intrigued with the new Enemies to lovers story and how it would all play out.  I must say, like the first book I loved the dynamic the author built up between these two.  I thoroughly enjoyed the banter happening between Molly and Ezra both in person and via email.  It was so fun and flirty with a big side of sarcasm and truly had me smiling ear to ear and odd time chuckling of the antics happening between them.

Ezra was a workaholic who was stubborn and driven and went after what he wanted.  He was a bit rough and gruff but I must say, when he let Molly really get to know him and see the real Ezra, he was so kind and caring and such a gentleman.  I really enjoyed Molly’s strong character.  I loved how independent and strong she was.  I loved her sassiness, especially when it came to Ezra.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this one and loved the dynamic, the only issue I had with this one is I felt the pace to be a little too slow and found the storyline to be falling flat at times.  I loved the whole enemies to friends plot and like a good slow build but found this one to be too much of a slow build and the storyline of these to changing the dynamic of the relationship to drag on a bit and I just found at times it had me disengaging with the story.

Overall this was an enjoyable fun and flirty read with some really great cast of characters.  If you have not read The Opposite of you, you can definitely read this one without reading it, but I wouldn’t recommend as you will be missing out on one fabulous book.  I must say I am excited to get Wyatt’s story next and can’t wait to see what happens for him to get his HEA.

One night to remember

Is that too much to desire?

One night for fun, passion, and a chance to remember what it’s like to be a woman.
I’m not looking for love.
There’s a man in my life who loves me with all his heart. He has beautiful blue eyes, is three feet tall, and calls me mommy.

The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond ** Josie’s Review **

In this relentlessly paced novel of psychological suspense, New York Times bestselling author Michelle Richmond crafts an intense and shocking tale that asks: How far would you go to protect your marriage?

Newlyweds Alice and Jake are a picture-perfect couple. Alice, once a singer in a well-known rock band, is now a successful lawyer. Jake is a partner in an up-and-coming psychology practice. Their life together holds endless possibilities. After receiving an enticing wedding gift from one of Alice’s prominent clients, they decide to join an exclusive and mysterious group known only as The Pact.

The goal of The Pact seems simple: to keep marriages happy and intact. And most of its rules make sense. Always answer the phone when your spouse calls. Exchange thoughtful gifts monthly. Plan a trip together once per quarter. . . . Never mention The Pact to anyone.

Alice and Jake are initially seduced by the glamorous parties, the sense of community, their widening social circle of like-minded couples. And then one of them breaks the rules. The young lovers are about to discover that for adherents to The Pact, membership, like marriage, is for life. And The Pact will go to any lengths to enforce that rule. For Jake and Alice, the marriage of their dreams is about to become their worst nightmare.

I’m not that sure how I feel about The Marriage Pact even after a few days after reading it.  Bizarre, creepy and cultured are just some words I would use.

I’ll start off saying that this book was well written, developed, gripping and extremely hard to put down.   However, some of the events that transpired just felt over done and over the top ridiculous. Like that happens in real life? or Was this part of an action movie?  I love a good mind f**k, suspense and drama but Jake and Alice are 2 extremely intelligent and well off people and what kept running in the back of my mind was didn’t they find this pact odd?

Newly wed Jake and Alice  join “The Pact” a group that believes in keeping marriages focused, happy and connected.   From the start my mind screamed cult with all their rules, regulations and the team “friend”.   There are extreme and excessive punishments if members felt you committed an infraction.  I am not even going to mention how neither would question it or why they’d go along with these punishments. I knew things were far fetched and yet I continued and couldn’t stop reading.

I enjoyed the pretense and premise of the plot and thought OK I get it, people will do anything for their marriages.  I give the author props for keeping my mind in this crazy game called the pact but I hoped for a better ending, one where I didn’t feel like it ended with no ending.  There is so much that goes on and the things that came out that blew me away only to feel like I missed something major. Overall, this was interesting read even with the bizarre and left field antics.

Second Chance Romance with a Rockstar twist!  The minute I started reading this I was thinking NKOTB Reunion and maybe it’s because Luann timed it perfectly with their reunion tour taking place but even the titles of chapters screamed YES I AM A TEENAGER AGAIN SINGING AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS!!!  That however, is sadly where my screaming ended for this story.

This is a light, fun, easy to see where the story is going romance.  For me the brothers all, however cute they are,  come off immature and frustrating to believe they were going to pull off this reunion that meant so much to them.  I am not going to lie and say they didn’t have me laughing and loving them because they did.  It’s just I loved them as if they were 18 – 21 yr boys not grown men who are suppose to have their shit together.  Then there is Arabella “Bella” who runs a successful Hip Hop Health business and was the bands choreographer back in the day.   She also was the love of Grady’s life but a misunderstanding left her running without anything.  JUST GONE and this infuriated me as a reader.  If this was the love of their life where was the explosion, where were the emotions!  Bella comes off as an insecure heroine, for being this successful business owner she comes off as weak and unable to stand up for what she wants in business and in her love life.  Literally she was so bland as a character I found myself just saying WTF GIVE ME SOMETHING!!!!    I loved the closeness of the brothers and Bella but I couldn’t understand how they could love her so much and not fight for her and Grady sooner.  For me the premises of this story was so solid but the romance and the relationship fell flat and left me questioning when I should have been swooning.  I am left saying I liked it but there is so much I am hoping gets better with the brothers stories!!

“To being wicked.” His grey eyes were laughing at me. “Together.”
The pleasant thumping in my knickers became a vigorous pounding. Richard Cummings was gorgeous. I could feel his charm wrapping around me like a warm blanket.
Irresistible, right? I heard myself quip, “Are you Cumming onto me?”
He bounced right back, “Absolutely.”
Oh well, I told myself. It’s just a flirt fest. I have those all the time, and it hardly ever comes to anything. Because of the curves, probably. Men like me, but after we’ve had a laugh, they go to bed with someone skinny.
This was no different. I’d have a giggle with Richard, enjoy the charm and the good looks, lust after him a little bit, and know it was purely a game. Because tech billionaires with a penchant for A-list models don’t fall for curvy caterers.
Curvy chef Sophie Weston has given up on love. But when she is hired to cater for a very exclusive house party, she falls instantly for handsome tech tycoon Richard Cummings. However, she quickly discovers that Richard has a shady past. Should she trust him or should she walk away before her heart is broken again? When my father gave me a job, I had no idea it would be to babysit some washed up NHL player. He wanted me to be his chaperone, his overpaid babysitter. I thought it was a joke. Then I met him, Matthew Grant. I wasn’t prepared for this particular bad boy. He’s not only hot but he’s arrogant and kinda sweet in a ‘you make me crazy’ kind of way.
Basically now that he’s finished screwing up his life, he’s decided to turn mine upside down.

She’s the first thing I’ve ever wanted more than hockey.

He’s the guy I know I should stay away from.

But what if this thing that started out so wrong turns into something so perfect?

Matthew Cooper Stone is my stepfather, the Cooper Stone who’s the best person to ever skate. He holds every single record that’s out there because he’s just that fucking good.
“What the fuck are you doing?”
I didn’t even have a chance to say hello before Cooper’s voice filled the room. I groaned and turned over to see that he was on speakerphone. My finger must have touched it by accident. “Matthew, seriously, I’m one second from flying out there and yanking you off the fucking ice.”
I was twenty-one and already being benched and scratched.
I was no chump. I was drafted first over all. The day still played in my mind. “The Los Angeles Royals choose Matthew Grant.” The minute my name was said, I sat there in shock while my little sister was yelling and my mother, Parker, had tears running down her cheeks while her face lit up with happiness and pride. Cooper was the first to grab me and stand me up.
“Go get that fucking jersey.” His voice was loud in my ear. My mother was next. “I’m so proud of you, Matthew, so, so proud.”
I kissed her cheek and walked down the stairs toward the stage from where the general manager, the owner, and the coach all looked at me. When I walked on stage, I tried to hold my tears in.
Taking the owner’s hand in mine, I shook it and thanked him. Putting that jersey on was surreal. Posing for pictures was a blur. I got so drunk that night I don’t remember much, except Cooper having to carry me inside while I pledged my love to my mother, my sister, and the trees around us.
Usually, once you get drafted, you start off on their farm team, but not me. I was on the starting line. I was up to my ears in silicone. There would be a different girl every night, everyone wanting to get a piece of me. The star of the team. Then my game started to slip. The late nights took a toll on me and my body. Three years later, I was sent down to the farm team. You’d think I would wake up, but no, not me. I just partied harder. I was on the front page of almost every single tabloid magazine that you could think of.
Every single summer I went back home, spending the time training hard with Cooper riding my ass, promising him that I was out of the party phase, but the minute my feet landed back in L.A., it was back to the booze and the puck bunnies. Another three years later, I was put on wavers. When no one picked me up, I packed up and went back home. For two years, I played hockey at home in charity games, till the GM from the New York Stingers came knocking at my door. Robert Western.
Cooper, Mom, and I sat down with him. My hands shook with nerves, my legs bouncing with happiness that someone actually wanted me.
“We want to offer him a one-year contract, with certain rules.” He eyed me and then Cooper. I knew Cooper had called in a favor.
“What is it?” I asked, holding my breath.
I was about to get up and say fuck that when Cooper put his hand on mine and blurted out, “He’ll do it.”
I looked at him while he glared at me. My mother put a hand on top of her husband’s. United. Always.
Robert slapped his hands together. “Matthew, you, my friend, are going to bring another cup to New York.” He got up to shake my hand and then Cooper’s, slapping him on the arm. “Who knows, you may also knock this asshole off a throne or two.”
Cooper laughed out loud, but I knew he would be the one egging me on, the one daring me to push him off. He would also be the first one coming to congratulate me if I ever did it.
He had come into my life when I’d needed a male figure the most. I just hadn’t known it. He showed me that you can fall in love with your whole heart and everything will fall into place. He showed me that you fight for what you want. But most of all, he showed me that love is a gift and once it’s given, you cherish it.
So now here I am on the plane getting ready to land in New York. I have to meet the owner of the team and the PR people tomorrow at noon. I scroll through my social media sites while I wait for the doors to open. My sister is tagging me in old photos of us from Mom and Cooper’s wedding. Feels like it was just yesterday. When you see the way Cooper looks at my mother, you know he loves her with all his heart. He would walk to the ends of the earth for her.
I press the heart emoji on the picture and then hear the ping of the seat belt sign telling us we can stand up. I grab my leather jacket and slide it on, put on my aviators, and grab my leather duffel bag. Walking out of the plane, I nod at the two flight attendants, who both slipped me their numbers. Numbers I left in the side of the seat.
Fresh start. It’s time to make my parents proud of me. Time to show the world that Matthew Grant is here for good this time.
On my way to my hotel in Times Square, I look out the window of the yellow cab zigzagging its way through traffic. Nothing in the world beats the cab drivers in New York City. You sit back and hold your breath while you pray to not end up being slammed forward. We reach the W hotel. I swipe my card through the card holder in the back, thanking him. I don’t even have time to close the door before he races off from the curb.
I enter and check in without having anything to say. The woman at reception starts going through her routine talk. I cut in. “What floor is the gym on?”
She smiles at me, telling me the information while giving me her private number in case I have any other questions.
I nod at her and then walk up to my room. It’s the size of a closet. Welcome to New York. I take my phone out to send a text to Cooper.
   Landed. Going to work out.
   Be good.
   I’m always good.
   Okay, then behave.
I laugh and throw the phone on the bed, and then get my workout clothes out of the bag. I grab my headphones and make my way to the gym.
I have texts from Allison, my sister, and Tom, who is married to my aunt Meghan and is an ex-NHLer, wishing me luck. But the one that makes me laugh out loud is from my Aunt Meghan, telling me that my dick won’t fall off if I don’t use it. I’m about to answer her when the elevator beeps, signaling I have arrived at the gym floor.
I walk to the gym and scan my card so I can get in. Usually, these hotel gyms are almost empty, but not this time. A girl is jogging on the treadmill, but I don’t make eye contact with her.
Grabbing a towel from the basket in the corner, I walk over to the other treadmill, look down at the buttons, and turn it on.
I start off slow while Drake fills my ears, but that doesn’t last long before I crank it up and push myself hard. I’m in the best shape of my life, thanks to my mom, Cooper, and Tim. They didn’t let me sit down and drown my sorrows in bonbons and booze. They had my ass skating at the crack of dawn. In the gym pushing and pulling. Meaning I’m the biggest I’ve ever been. My shoulders are wider, my waist leaner, my arms bigger.
I’m sweating up a storm, so I look over to see if the girl is still running on the treadmill, which is my first mistake. Not only is she next to me running as fast as me, but she’s in a sports bra holding up a perfect set of tits, her stomach bare, her abs defined but looking soft, and her little booty shorts not keeping anything back. She isn’t tall. Her blond hair swings in the air while she’s looking at the iPad she has in front of her. Is she watching the Kardashians? Jesus. She must sense me watching her because she looks over, which is when I feel the earth move under my feet. Her eyes are crystal blue, so blue it’s like I’m looking into the ocean. I almost trip over my own two feet, but I recover and smile at her. I turn my head forward and continue running till my legs feel like they’re going to snap in two.
Getting off the treadmill, I whip my soaking shirt off and throw it over my shoulder before I grab a water bottle and drain it all. I notice she’s slowing her speed. She shuts off the treadmill, dabbing her face with the towel that she has near her. She takes the water bottle, drinking in a good amount.
I start to walk out of the room when she gets off the treadmill. I stop right before we collide with each other, then put out my hand, giving her the right of way.
“Thanks,” she says, her voice soft, sweet, pure.
Following her out, I watch her ass swing in front of me. I don’t even notice she stops and I crash into her, grabbing her shoulders and making sure she doesn’t fall on her face because I was staring at her ass. “I’m sorry, I was…” I’m sure I don’t have to say anything to her because my cock is nestled in her back.
She shrugs my hands off her shoulders while she presses the elevator button. We stand here not saying anything while we wait. What can you say? Sorry my dick poked your back? Sorry I was watching your sweet ass instead of watching where I was going? Silence is golden right now.
When the elevator arrives, I wait for her to walk in before entering and see that we are on the same floor. Great. The ride lasts no longer than a second before the door opens and she sprints out, away from the crazy pervert who poked his dick into her back. I head to my door and see she’s in the room right next to mine. I want to say something, anything, but by the time I look up, she’s already in the safety of her own room.

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
