NEW RELEASE: Mercy by Debra Anastasia **Josie’s Review**

He taught me to kill. Murder is in my blood now. It runs through my veins and though I hide the monster I see in the mirror with ink, it doesn’t keep him from coming out.

My street name is Mercy, but I never show any. Except for her. I watch Becca, though she doesn’t know. She saved me a long time ago; the day my father killed my mother. Her bravery turned her into a target.

My father holds a grudge and knife with the same proficiency, and Becca is the focus of his hatred. And I’m the only monster who can save her.

I’ve read The Poughkeepsie Brotherhood Series and Beast and fell in love with this authors writing.  She has a way of making the most scarred and damage characters come to life where they just steal my heart. Such is the case in this story. It grabbed me at the first page and never let up.  The story is a bit stalker like but once I saw what the driving force behind said behavior was I was a goner.

Fenix and Becca’s story started 15 years ago but it was that day that changed Fenix’ life forever.  My heart broke for this little boy and the torment and evil he experienced as a child.  But I also felt his hope come alive when a little girl named Rebecca fiercely defended him from his abusive father.

Fenix is not a good man and his appearance is proof of that.  He’s gorgeous as he’s described in this book built, muscles and tattoos all over including the skull on his face.  This character although is tough and mean is sensitive and caring.  For 15 years he’s watched and protected Becca hiding behind the scenes because he feels he’s unworthy.

I adored Becca for her carefree life style and her humor.  She doesn’t judge people and even though she doesn’t know who Fenix is at first she feels she can trust him.  She lets him into her life and honestly I don’t know why she wouldn’t, he protects her with his life.

I really enjoyed the relationship and pull between these characters.  You get a real sense of depth Fenix’ commitment, love and loyalty to Becca is.  When I was reading this story I felt as if these were characters were made for one another.  Even as Fenix true nature comes out, Becca still knew how deep and true their connection ran.  When the evil connection between Fenix and Becca comes to get revenge their love and loyalty will be put to the test.  I loved Fenix’ conviction to Becca and his sense of loyalty to those in his very small circle.

As you can see Fenix character made me fall for this story it was watching this tortured man find light when he couldn’t trust anyone that really kept me enthralled.  He loved fiercely and intensely and I felt that throughout the pages.  The added danger in this story added a bit of suspense.  All in all this was a good read and very hard to put down.  The flashbacks are painful but help to bring Fenix’ character to life.  I can’t wait to get my hands on Animals ’ s book.

Cockloft by K.C. Lynn Release Day Blitz & Giveaway

Author: KC Lynn
Release Date: August 18, 2017
TBR Link: Goodreads

Cockloft: A firefighter term used as a structural space above ceiling and below rafters, often connecting adjacent occupancies and permitting fire to spread laterally, often unseen.
Gabriel Martinez is the most arrogant and infuriating man I’ve ever met. He has a knee-weakening smirk that makes me want to kiss—no—slap it off his rude, sexy face. Judging by his ego, you’d think the hose in his pants is as big as the one on his fire truck. Not that I know anything about that nor do I want to. Nope, not at all. He’s already been forgotten like last season’s Michael Kors.
CeCe Kensington is as pretentious and spoiled as they come. The ridiculous purses she shoulders around are as big as her attitude. And don’t get me started on her mile-long legs or full, glossy lips that are meant to be wrapped around a guy’s… If she only knew the dirty things I think about doing to that sassy mouth of hers, she’d be hightailing it back to her side of town.
✿¸.•´¸✿*´¨) ¸.•*¨✿
When the beautiful boutique owner and sexy firefighter meet in the most unlikely situation, their two worlds collide, creating an explosion of misperceptions and combustible heat, trapping them in a fire they never saw coming.

I chose this on a whim. I loved the title and hey, it was about a fireman! I have one of my own so it was almost a no brainer for me. What had me weary is I haven’t had the best luck in finding great books that keep my attention. But I desperately continue to try and search them out….

Gabe, aka….fireboy and CeCe, Blondie, were immediately attracted to each other. Though, during their first encounter it was far from nice. They tried to spew the hate as they assumed the other portrayed as truth. But, in due time they saw how wrong they were.

“You don’t know me.”
“True, but I know your type. All you rich pretentious chicks are the same.”
“Yeah, pretentious. Materialistic. Take your pick. After all, I did find you in the middle of a fire trying to save your designer purse.”

I was ready to see how far this hate would run and see just where the tables would turn but it was quickly revealed that there would be no cat and mouse game. The convenience of them running into each other was just that- convenient. In no time they portrayed feelings of being use to each other.  They seemed automatically comfortable and even went to bat for the other.  I wanted to see that build up and have the line slowly disappear from hate to want to all of the above.  The words were there with pushed tension because of their desire and preconceived notions, but after a week and not near enough attraction biting I didn’t feel their combustion.

“I am finally going to f**k the sass right out of you, Blondie.”
“F**k away, Fireboy.”

I also didn’t love her nickname for Gabe, in the beginning.  The instant she called him ‘fireboy’ I rolled my eyes. I love nicknames. I totally do. Along with flirting, give a new nickname that we don’t read with every other word I’m grinning wild. But, I have to fess up. The fireboy nickname grew on me! I think as I finally understood CeCe and really feel her character I started to smile when she would use it.

Happily, once I got over the first hump (literally and figuratively 🙂 ) I liked them. I think the push (even in a small amount of time) for them to dislike each other from the get go to have that hate to love type romance was to high but once they went for their attraction the ease of people/characters came out. I just wished there was more of this normalcy.

Overall, I felt this to be very plain. Extremely surface level. I want the underneath. Yes, they both had a upbringing that is easily heart tugging. It was what made them who they were but it didn’t draw me in enough.  Though I’m happy I enjoyed the main characters and the way they got started and each other superficial thoughts along with the added drama that was seen a mile away as plush.

I liked it. Didn’t love it.

Enjoyed parts. Not a whole.

Will Rowan’s festival fling with sexy dancer Seth lead to something more permanent?

Rowan is stuck at a folk festival helping out a mate, and it really isn’t his scene. The yoga and singing workshops are bad enough, but morris dancing is the final straw. Bearded men with beer guts prancing around wearing bells—who wants to watch that?

All Rowan’s preconceptions are shattered when he meets Seth—a morris dancer, and the stuff Rowan’s fantasies are made of. Seth persuades Rowan to come to a dancing workshop, and Rowan’s willing to do whatever it takes to get to know Seth better. The attraction is mutual, and a lesson filled with innuendo and flirting leads to an incredible night together.

When Rowan arrives home, he’s gutted to find that Seth has given him the wrong phone number. Assuming Seth did it on purpose, Rowan resolves to forget about him. But fate—and friends—conspire to get them back together. Will they manage to stay in step this time around?

A much shorter version of this story was originally published in the Not Quite Shakespeare Anthology by Dreamspinner Press. This version has been revised and extended. Almost half of it is new content.

NEW RELEASE: Illegal Contact (The Barons #1) by Santino Hassell **Jen’s Review**

The rules of the game don’t apply off the field in this first Barons novel.

New York Barons tight end Gavin Brawley is suspended from the team and on house arrest after a video of him brawling goes viral. Gavin already has a reputation as a jerk with a temper on and off the field—which doesn’t help him once he finds himself on the wrong side of the law. And while he’s been successful professionally, he’s never been lucky when it comes to love.

Noah Monroe is a recent college grad looking for a job—any job—to pay off his mounting student debt. Working as Gavin’s personal assistant/babysitter seems like easy money. But Noah isn’t prepared for the electrifying tension between him and the football player. He’s not sure if he’d rather argue with Gavin or tackle him to the floor. But both men know the score, and neither is sure what will happen once Gavin’s timeout is over…

This book is the first in a new series.

I want to say if you have never read a book written by Santino Hassell then you seriously are missing out. Anything this man touches is gold and this book is no different. Illegal Contact is one of those stories that will definitely please the masses. Hot men, snark, hilarious banter and a moving storyline. What more can you ask for?

Gavin is this brute of man who’s currently on house arrest because he can’t keep control on his temper. Football is his life and the only thing that has been a constant, but this grumpy, sarcastic man who doesn’t trust anyone is forced to hire a PA to help manage his life outside of the confines of his home. Things get a little messy for him.

Noah isn’t your everyday twink/nerdy looking guy.  He’s no push over and is definitely not afraid to stand up for himself.  Taking on a temporary job becomes quite demanding at times but he certainly won’t let anyone especially someone like Gavin run him off.  I loved that he gave as good as he got.

Noah was the perfect match for Gavin. I loved watching him become the calm to Gavin’s storm. What I really loved was how Santino gave us two very likeable characters that each brought a lot to the pages and to their relationship. They were a joy to meet and I loved every second we got with them. It wasn’t always smooth sailing and at times things were down right volatile. The best part of this story was being able to watch these men build a deep seeded connection with so much trust and respect. I truly loved seeing Gavin go from this ball of anger and frustration to a gentle giant where Noah was concerned.

This kind of story is exactly why I love to read. I’m not a football fan but give me sexy, swoon worthy flawed characters, a little bit of angst that will tug at my heart strings, a wonderfully written story that will have me smiling all over the place, then I’m all in. I loved everything about this book and can’t wait to see what Santino brings us next.

You Don’t Know Jack Schmidt By Susan Renee Release Blitz & Review

I’ve always been the social butterfly, the girl with an Angry Vagina Box, the one who goes home with just about anyone for a booty call. So, why in the hell am I lying in bed alone on a Friday night downloading The Watering Hole dating app onto my phone?
Wait, what? No. Why am I creating a profile? No, no, fingers! Stop scrolling!
Whoa…he’s cute.
Kind of nerdy chic, but cute.
I bet he’s a barista.
Why am I drooling over the guy who has a strong set of morals and only wears matching socks? Who the hell is this guy?
Available on Amazon ~ 99 Pennies!

# 1
“The Watering Hole…it sounds like a pee trough or something.” I shake my head and lay my phone down next to me, willing myself to fall asleep before I do something stupid. The idea waffles back and forth in my mind for almost fifteen minutes. I don’t know what the heck makes me do it, but my finger hits the link to download the app before I can stop myself.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this.” I mumble. Within about fifteen seconds The Watering Hole app is on my phone and I’m opening it to see what happens. Will there be a list of guys I can just choose from? “I bet they’ll all be mega nerds who boast what big dicks they have.” I snort. “‘Cause you know, they speak Spockly and carry big dicks.”

# 2
“Hey Jacoby?” I say quietly as we sit in the treehouse copying math homework off each other. “Yeah?”
I’ve been waiting to ask him this question since yesterday, but I had to be certain we were alone first. Going through the foster system as much as I have sucks on so many levels. I may have made it to the eighth grade, but there’s so much I don’t know, and nobody to ask except my new best friend.
“Uh, so…do you know…what a twinkie is?”

# 3
I watch as she reaches for a bottle of lotion. She squirts some into her hand and looks up at me again. “You are about to taste like hot buttered rum.” She says. “My favorite.” She licks her lips and runs her hand up and down my length spreading what must be a flavored lube all around me. I gasp as a cool sensation spreads at her touch, and hold my breath for what she might do next.
She’s going to do it.
Breathe Jack. You got this.
Oh, my God, she’s really going to do it.
My very first blow job.

From the minute I read the title of this book I was laughing!! I loved the play on a reference we all have been guilty of using. I love that I can now say, I know Jack Schmidt! I do warn though that knowing Jack Schmidt leaves you carving/screaming for more!! Literally I was just getting hooked into the story and figuring Schmidt out and BAM I’M NEEDING BOOK 2 IMMEDIATELY!! Somewhere I missed this was a spin off because honestly I wanted to stab the author and then I was like Schmidt I have to kick my own ass!! FYI Hole Punched has been purchased now in hopes it holds me off from my need for more! I adored these characters, Linda and Jack are characters you immediately connect with and their convos thru out the story are such a cute, comical look into the online dating scene! I loved their back and forth and their honesty. My only complaint is that it was such a quick read and the cut off comes right at a huge build up leaving you swiping your kindle looking for the other pages but nope they aren’t there and that makes me say kudos to the author because I definitely WANT AND NEED MORE JACK SCHMIDT!!! I’m now a full fledged stalker and I can’t get book 2 quick enough!!

Out Of The Shadows by K.C. Wells Release Blitz & Giveaway

Length: 62,991 words
Cover Design: Bree Archer

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

Can he step out of the shadows and into love’s light?

Eight years ago, Christian Hernandez moved to Jamaica Plain in southern Boston, took refuge in his apartment, and cut himself off from the outside world. And that’s how he’d like it to stay.

Josh Wendell has heard his coworkers gossip about the occupant of apartment #1. No one sees the mystery man, and Josh loves a mystery. So when he is hired to refurbish the apartment’s kitchen and bathrooms, Josh is eager to discover the truth behind the rumors.

When he comes face-to-face with Christian, Josh understands why Christian hides from prying eyes. As the two men bond, Josh sees past his exterior to the man within, and he likes what he sees. But can Christian find the courage to emerge from the darkness of his lonely existence for the man who has claimed his heart?

CHRISTIAN HERNANDEZ stared at the letter, his gut clenching. One look at its contents was all it had taken to send him spiraling down into a fit of panic.

He’d known it was coming, of course. He’d seen the posts on the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation website, all about how the housing association was putting together a list of their properties that were in dire need of renovation. He knew his building had to be on the list. They’d taken it over in the late nineties, along with several other properties along Minden Street, and nothing had been done to the buildings since then.

And here it was in black and white. His apartment was on the list for the first wave of refurbishments, which included the replacement of all the kitchen cabinets and countertops, plus the kitchen flooring. After that came the bathrooms, with new fixtures and tiles. The work would take two to three weeks.

Next Monday. They’re sending someone to start on it next Monday. What the hell do I do?

It wasn’t as if he had anywhere else to go, so that left one option: hiding in his room while whoever came to invade his apartment worked in the kitchen. And the bathrooms. Hell. That meant the bathroom next to his bedroom.

Looks like I’m going to be locking my bedroom door. The prospect of being holed up in his room for a couple of weeks made his heart sink.

Christian put down the letter on the kitchen table and walked into his living room, where patio doors opened up to the communal gardens that lay across the back of the buildings.

I need something to cheer me up, to take my mind off all this crap. And he knew just what would do the trick. He peeked through the blinds, knowing exactly what—or should that be, who?—he’d see.

Sure enough, there was his favorite handyman. Not that Christian knew the guy’s name. He only watched him every time the slim man with defined arms worked out there, mowing the lawns, repairing or repainting the fences, or digging up new flower beds and planting shrubs and trees in them. Christian estimated him to be in his midtwenties, and yeah, he was definitely Christian’s type. He loved it when the weather grew warm enough that Handyman would roll down his overalls to his waist, strip off his T-shirt, and expose all that tanned skin, with a light dusting of freckles across his shoulders.

Now, if the guy they send to work on my apartment is anything like him….

Christian knew the thought to be bullshit. There was no way he’d make any kind of contact with whomever the association sent. He’d just stay in his room, working there until the nightmare was all over.

It’s a couple of weeks—three, tops. I can manage. He figured if he kept telling himself that, somehow he’d talk it into existence. Yeah. I can stay out of their way.

Just so long as whoever turned up wasn’t a snooper.

JOSH WENDELL straightened and stretched, his back aching a little from lugging the large shrubs from the truck into the gardens. They were going to be really pretty when the rhododendrons flowered. He always liked working on the Minden Street houses. It was a peaceful little corner south of Mission Hill, just west of Jamaica Plain, and the communal gardens were his pride and joy.

Occasionally there’d be a couple of guys working with him, and they got along fine. Even if they told some fanciful stories. Like the one about the guy in the first-floor apartment at #197—the guy they said no one ever saw. Josh had scoffed at that immediately: If no one ever saw him, how’d they know he was even a him? Besides, if he listened to them, the guy in #197, apartment #1, was the bogeyman, a hermit who lured little kids into his lair, only to eat them and bury their bones under the patio outside his window.

Yeah, right.

Anyway, his days of working in the gardens had come to an end for a while. He’d received his instructions for the next few months: the association wanted him to use his skills in other pursuits, namely tearing out and replacing kitchen cabinets, laying down new tile floors, and replacing baths, sinks, and tiles. Josh was looking forward to it, even if it was going to be a royal pain in the ass working indoors at the height of summer. He just prayed the apartments had functional AC.

He glanced over at the apartment where the mystery guy lived. Not that Josh had ever seen him. All he saw were the vertical blinds that covered the patio doors, an effective barrier against revealing anything of the apartment’s interior—or its occupant.

Wonder what he’s really like?

Then he grinned to himself. Hey, what if I get to work on his place? The guys would be all over me, wanting to know what the inside of the apartment looks like. The way they described it, he expected to see something right out of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That was, of course, if he worked on that particular apartment.

Josh couldn’t wait to get his itinerary to find out.

When it comes to doggy style, he’s behind you 100%.

Preston Evans is a legend in and out of the bedroom. He’s six foot two, gorgeous, and famous because his celebrity ex snapchatted his huge package. I hate him. I hate his stupid puppy store, Doggy Style. I hate the way he looks at me like I’m a piece of meat. I don’t care that his abs are chiseled, his arms are tattooed, and his face belongs on the cover of a magazine. Every dog bred means a shelter dog dead!

I chain myself to his store in protest, but instead of calling the cops, he throws me a bone.

If I spend one week with him in Hawaii pretending to be his fiancée to snag an investor, he will transform his store into a shelter dog adoption center, saving thousands of dogs’ lives.

One week and I never have to see this sexy, dirty-talking jerk again. How hard can he, uh I mean it, be?

Sex is off the table. So why do I want him to bend me over it?

I’m a fan of EK Blair books so when I saw the blurb for this one I said yes please. I didn’t know it was YA until I started reading it so I was actually pleasantly surprised as I’m a pretty big YA fan. I love high school drama!! Yes I’m in my 30s but leave me and my Pretty Little Liars alone! 😛

Adaline and her mother uprooted from Texas to Florida where Ady is now the new girl in school. Her father left to start a new life with someone else which you will see wears heavily on her. Yet she lucks out by being accepted by a couple of the popular boys in school. Of course she has her eyes set on one of them almost immediately.

Besides being the boy from the other side of town, who was lucky enough to go to an elite school Kason tends to keep to himself. He’s not your typical bad boy but there is something he’d rather no one ever found out about him. However, there is just something about Ady that he can’t help but gravitate too. He knows he should leave her alone but he just can’t help himself.

So obviously I can’t tell you Kason’s secret BUT as I mentioned earlier, this is what I love about YA…drama…and once you find out just what Kason’s secret is you’ll see it goes a bit deeper than your typical YA. However, because I love YA so much this is where I felt a little unsettled about the story. I just needed more. I would’ve loved to have seen more of Kason and Ady as a real couple. I needed more of their connection. I also would’ve liked more inner dialogue from Kason regarding his secret.

But when shit hits the fan…sheesh…it hits the f’n fan and just when you think ok I can deal with this bam EK hits you with a cliff and you’re left staring at your Kindle like well…shit.

So clearly yes I’m going to need the second part of this book ASAP!

At Her Own Risk by Rachael Duncan Release Blitz, Review & Giveaway

Title: At Her Own Risk

Author: Rachael Duncan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release: August 14, 2017

That’s all it was supposed to be. No strings attached, no feelings, no heartache.

But if I thought Sean Riley would be content having only parts of me, I was dead wrong. His persistence wore me down and I found myself in the one situation I was trying to avoid.

Little does he know a life with me will lead to nothing but disappointment and heartbreak. He’s a good man and deserves everything I can’t give him. Not because I don’t want to, but because I’m unable.

Pushing him away in the beginning was to protect me, now I’m trying to protect him as I gear up for the fight of my life.

A fight I could lose.

Getting into a relationship was my risk, but as things get worse, I’m not the only one who will have something to lose.

I just hope it’s worth it.

“Come back to me,” I finally plead.
She looks into my eyes and there’s so much pain I can’t stand it. “I don’t know how.” Her voice is strained as she tries to hold back the tears.
“Let me help you.” I cup her face and she leans into it.
“I just want to stop feeling this way and I can’t.” A tear falls down her cheek.
“Like what?”
She pauses and says, “Empty.”

Wow, what a fabulous and very emotional read At Her own risk was. This author has become a one click author for me this past year and I have to say once again she did not disappoint with her latest release.   There is just something about her writing style, her fabulous cast of characters and their stories that pulls me in every time and makes me fall so in love with her books.

Paige Stewart has become a challenge for Sean Riley these past two years.  The moment he met her he knew he had to have her.  Finally he has started to break down her walls and she has given into the sexual tension that has only been building the past few years.  Paige was hurt badly once before and refuses to let that happen again so she agrees to a “Friends with benefits” arrangement with Sean that only grows into something more until the point where things are great but a turning point in their relationship appears and changes everything for them both.

I absolutely loved Pagie and Sean’s story, it was fun and flirty but also very emotional.  So many times I found myself cracking up at Sean and all his jokes/ one liners.  Sean was sweet and caring and a bit corny at times with his lines he used but I couldn’t help but fall in love with this sometimes quirky yet sexy guy.   I also loved Paige’s character, she was such a strong female lead and we really got to see her strength get put to the test in this story.

I must say that when we Paige and Sean come together, it was hot.  But I also loved that even though these two had a very physical relationship, it didn’t totally feel like it was only physical.  I also loved that with how physical things were between them, this book didn’t turn into sex scene after sex scene or overdone.   But on top of needing to cool off from reading this one, this author also had me in tears with the very emotional side of this story . I loved their connection and loved the dynamic the author slowly built with their relationship and I loved that it got put to the ultimate test.  And most of all, I loved how real this story was, the character connection, the storyline, it felt so very real  to me that at times this book took me on an emotional roller coaster.

Overall this was such a fabulous story in such a great series that I have come to truly love.  This one can definitely be read as a standalone but this entire series is a must read, great stories and really great characters and with each book it only keeps getting better.  So if you are looking for a story that will test your emotions but also have you cracking up, even at the emotional times, this is an absolute must read!
