Synopsis

Ryan Steel is known in Snow Creek as the handsomest Steel brother with the most jovial personality. Now that his busy grape harvest and winemaking season is over, he’s happy to spend time with his family and help his brothers, Talon and Jonah, celebrate their impending nuptials. The Steels are taking a well-deserved break from the conspiracy surrounding them…until an unlikely woman and a long-buried secret shatter Ryan’s world.

Detective Ruby Lee has been on her own since she was fifteen. When her past collides with the Steel family’s mysteries, she’s determined to find the truth. She has her own issues, and she’s not looking for a relationship, despite her all-consuming attraction to Ryan Steel. The gorgeous dark-haired man gets under her skin anyway…and he needs her.

Together they explore both of their histories, but those pasts could cost them a future.

Shattered is a good addition to the Steel Brothers Saga series. It sucked me in from the very beginning. Even though this book is about a different brother, this must and should be read in order. While this book is a Romance novel it is a darker romance with triggers.

I adore Ms. Hardt unique and very talented writing style and with each book in this series there is always more that is uncovered and more love to be found. Shattered is Ryan and Ruby’s story but we get to dig deeper into the tragic events that surround Talon and the Steel family. I adore the tight and loving family bond the Steel family share and their determination to find all those responsible and their determination to uncover the truth behind Talon’s past.

I’m not going to say much because this series uncovers more each time I read a new book. The author not only gives readers a love story but also a dark mystery. Ryan was not as troubled as Talon and Jonah, so I was curious as to what his character would bring into this series. I was actually greatly surprised. He suffers from his own demons, maybe not as harsh but they are there. Ruby is a detective who has teamed up to help Ryan delve more into Talon’s dark, twisted and depraved past.

These two characters are nothing alike but there’s a reason Ms. Hardt put them together and let me say she hit the nail on the button. This is a dark erotic novel so expect some steamy scenes and the Steel Brothers way of handling darkness with their leading ladies their way. Ryan is so sweet and swoon worthy not only with Ruby but with his siblings. As Ryan and Ruby dig deeper into the mysteries surrounding Talon they become closer but Ruby’s past is darker and more twisted that Ryan imagined. Omg the twists and turns, the secret society and the sex was so good. I didn’t want this book to end! The title is fitting for all that the author delivered in this book because she Shattered me more than once. I highly recommend this book and all the books in this series.

“I hated that I was like this, but after years of trying to work through it I was beginning to feel like I’d never be normal.” ~ Cody

Hiding the fact that I was in love with my best friend Isaac used to be the most complicated part of my day, until a chance meeting with a handsome stranger named Jonah sent my life into a tailspin. Scars from my past have stopped me from giving in to my desires for so long, but I’m done being afraid. I want both men. I just don’t know if I’ll be able to trust that anyone can love me.

“I knew it was a bit messed up, but there was no jealousy or envy when I thought of my men together.” ~ Isaac

I’ve loved Cody for as long as I’ve known him, but have always held back because of his past. Then I met Jonah and I knew there was no way I could choose between them. I want it all—the man I’ve loved for so long, and the one I’m quickly falling for. It’s not going to be easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is.

“I wanted to believe it was all true, but I couldn’t push aside the fear that I was just a distraction until the two of them got together.” ~ Jonah

After having my heart broken I never thought I’d find love again. I wasn’t looking for anything real, and then I met not one, but two men I can’t resist. Isaac and Cody are everything I ever wanted but didn’t know I could have. I want to believe the three of us can work, but a part of me can’t get past the fear that I’ll be the odd man out, again.

*This is Book 2 of The Den Boys series, but can be read as a standalone – no cliffhangers.

Excerpt

“So, start with Insidious?” I asked Cody as we flopped on his small couch.

“You’re evil.”

“What? We’ve seen it so many times you should know when the freaky parts happen. I could have said I Spit On Your Grave.”

“That movie was messed up, not scary.” Cody shook his head and took the beer I held out to him. “I’m never watching that one again.”

“True, how about The Grudge?”

“Fine, but I swear to god, if you change my ringtone to that creepy moaning noise, I’ll never speak to you again.”

I grinned and opened my computer to cue up the movie. We might be able to joke about that incident now, but at the time it had been anything but funny.

The first time we’d watched it together we’d only been friends for about a month. I’d waited until Cody had fallen asleep then downloaded the moaning sound the demon character made as his ringtone. Then I’d snuck into the bathroom, blocked my number and called his phone. We’d been at my place that night, and he’d flipped out.

I’d felt terrible at how badly I’d scared him. I’d thought he’d get a good laugh out of it and that would be the end of things, but he’d been so freaked out he hadn’t been able to sleep for hours.

That was the night I’d learned a little bit about Cody’s past, and why he hadn’t handled the joke well. It wasn’t so much the ringtone that had scared him, it had been waking up in my bed alone, scared and disoriented.

It had taken a few more months for Cody to open up and tell me more about his past, and every time he told me something new my heart broke a little bit more for him. Even now I’d learn about something he hadn’t told me yet, and I’d wish I could take away his pain.

The more time I’d spent with Cody, the more I’d realized that he was an incredible person. He wasn’t just sweet and kind, he was caring and fiercely loyal. He was also beautiful.

At five-nine he wasn’t short, but with his slender build and cherubic face he seemed so much younger than twenty-one. His big blue eyes were wide and expressive. He wore his blond hair shaved close on the sides but long on top, so it was constantly falling over his forehead and brushing the tops of his cheeks if he didn’t continuously push it back. Everything about him was so beautiful it was almost painful, and it hadn’t taken me long to fall in love with him.

If he’d been any other guy I would have asked him out on a date, and gotten to know him as a romantic interest instead of as a friend.

Synopsis

When Yanni Tomaras is kicked out of his family home, his parents’ final words are religious insults and an order to never return. Homeless and desperate, he’s lured in by Lance, charming on the outside, an evil predator underneath, who abuses him until he finds the courage to leave.

Neither man knows what he wants, at first. Finding out exactly what he needs is Yanni’s story.

I thought I’d escaped when I’d left my abuser, but in hindsight I could see that I was still caged, this time by fear and self-doubt.

Spencer and Andrew, and Andrew’s parents, opened the door to the cage that confined me.

Wow what a roller coaster ride this one was and the ride isn’t done yet.   This one was another absolute fabulous saga of the Royal family with the story focusing this time on Easton Royal.

Easton Royal is the middle child in the Royal family and the one that always seems to be on his own, Gideon and Reed are the older brooding brothers off at college and Sebastian and Sawyer are the younger twin brothers leaving Easton to be the odd man out. From the moment he meets Hartley he is intrigued by her and determined to turn her no to him into a yes.  He can see she’s attracted to him but she’s holding herself back for some reason and he’s determined to find out why.

Easton Royal is cocky and a bit of a complete mess when it comes to his life but I couldn’t help but fall in love with him.  And I must say as the story progressed and as we got to see more of the real Easton, I loved who we got to see.  Yes he was still cocky, but he was sweet and caring.  We realize Easton has his own issues and in the end, it sometimes just causes him to not always think things through, he never sets out to harm anyone.

I loved Hartley’s character.  She was a bit of a mystery for most of this story but she was such a great strong female lead.  I loved how she was determined to not give into Easton charms.  And I must say I loved the dynamic the author built between these two.  I loved that their relationship was the typical one of mutual attraction from the start that they give into.  I really enjoyed her making him work for it and loved that in the end he settled for her friendship.

Overall this was a really fabulous read that I couldn’t put down and if you loved the first few books in this series and you love a good angsty high school drama themed type romance you will love be this one.  This one is a great mix of fun and flirty moments but also angsty teen drama. Overall a great first installment in Eastons duet and I am dying to see where the author is going to take their story.

“John Doe” was just another patient. A criminal.

As a prison nurse, I knew the rules: do my job, don’t get involved, and never let a prisoner get under my skin.

I broke all three.

My passion, my obsession, my addiction. I risked my entire life so we could be together.

I thought helping him escape from prison would be the hard part.

It turns out when you fall in love with a villain, you also turn into one.

Just a quick warning, this book can contain triggers for some.  Dark reads are my thing, if it says contains dark matter that means I’m guaranteed to read.  Toxic is fast paced and it’s plot and characters are dark.  That’s how I’m summing this read  – dark.  I absolutely loved the book and as soon as started reading it was impossible for me to put it down. This is not your average love story, it’s filled with more lows than highs but the end game is worth it.

Tessa’s home life is dangerous, abusive and degrading,  but so is her life as an RN in a prison. Tessa has been beaten down and at first we see that side of her. A mouse scared of every move she makes but if you been around victims of abuse you know that’s how their lives are. So when her job brings her into the path of Gracin all the rules get broken.

Gracin is tough, hardened and unapologetic, let’s not mention HOT!  Gracin notices something in Tessa and immediately is drawn to her.  He notices her bruises and her resigned attitude to life and doesn’t like it.

Tessa finds self worth and a new attitude under Gracin ’ s talented fingers (😀) and gets a back bone of sorts.  Gracin is a man of many secrets and Tessa learns first hand that he takes what he wants and doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process.  This book had so many twists and turns. It had me clutching my Kindle more times than not.  Gracin is a wealthy and vicious criminal.  His life style is fast and bloody and full of debts to be paid.  Tessa changes throughout this book and I’m not sure how I feel about that.

I adored how the author brings Gracin’s true nature out in this book.  At first glance I was taking  in by his rough nature  but there is so much more to his character.   We see the battle and banter evolve between the characters and see a new side to both.  Being a victim for so long has changed Tessa’s attitude, she no longer is willing to sit by and be another pawn or punching bag for any man. And I really loved seeing her become a lot stronger.

I enjoyed the plot and character development throughout the book and this storyline kept me on my toes.  If you like dark reads this is right up your alley.

To most people, princes, princesses, counts and dukes are found only in the pages of the most famous of fairytales. Crowns, priceless jewels and gilded thrones belong only in childhood dreams.
But for some, these frivolous fancies are truth.
For some, they are real life.
On Manhattan’s Upper East Side, people have always treated me as someone special. All because of my ancestral name and legacy. All because of a connection I share to our home country’s most important family of all.
I am Caresa Acardi, the Duchessa di Parma. A blue blood of Italy. I was born to marry well. And now the marriage date is set.
I am to marry into House Savona. The family that would have been the royals had Italy not abolished the monarchy in 1946. But to the aristocrats of my home, the abolition means nothing at all.
The Savonas still hold power where it counts most.
In our tight-knit world of money, status and masked balls, they are everything and more.
And I am soon to become one of them.
I am soon to become Prince Zeno Savona’s wife…
… or at least I was, until I met Achille.
And everything changed.

I opened the window beside me and stared at the illuminated entrance. I swallowed hard and placed my empty glass on the bar. Metal groaned, breaking through the twilight, as the massive black wrought-iron gates began to open. The limo slowly pulled onto the property’s lane, and I drank in the thick forest that shielded the estate. I inhaled the freshness of the lush green trees. The unpolluted sky was thick with stars—not a single cloud in sight.
A few minutes later, the thick woods cleared, and I gasped. Acres and acres of gold and green vineyards covered the landscape. The scents of plump grapes and damp soil permeated the warm air. I closed my eyes. It reminded me of being a child. It brought me back to the days before I was taken to New York. I could still feel the heat of the Emilia-Romagna sun on my face, the deep smell of olives, grapes and flowers drifting in the breeze as I ran around our Parma estate.
I smiled a nostalgic smile and allowed my eyes to drift open again. I rested my arms on the window and leaned my chin on them as the limo drove on. There were several small villas peppered over the landscape, their lights twinkling in the distance. They must have been the winemakers’ residences. It was not only the Bella Collina merlot that was made on this land; other reds were too—particularly the Chianti from the region’s finest Sangiovese grapes. The Bella Collina olive oil was also up there with the best. But nothing compared to the famed merlot.
The limo turned right, and my breath caught in my throat. I lifted my head and stared disbelievingly at the property ahead. Bella Collina was a veritable Palace of Versailles tucked away in the Umbrian wilderness.
“Mio Dio,” I whispered as I took in the imposing stone structure, the sweeping steps and the vast number of windows set in the building’s walls. Large pillars of red-veined marble flanked the entrance. Cypress trees framed the estate as if it were the shining star of a fine Renaissance painting. Sculptures of famed Savona monarchs of old stood proudly on the manicured lawns, and strategically placed lighting illuminated the sheer perfection of every piece of topiary.
As a child, I had been to the Palazzo Savona in Florence. It was widely regarded to be one of the finest estates in all of Italy, if not western Europe. But this . . . this . . . there were no words. It was perfectly placed, as if it had always been there. As if it had grown naturally from the Umbrian earth just as sure as the vines and woods that kept this architectural treasure hidden from view.

Survivor by T.M. Smith Blog Tour & Giveaway

Title: Survivor
Author: T.M. Smith
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: August 22, 2017

Taylor Langford’s world is torn apart when he is only thirteen years old—his parents killed, leaving him alone and orphaned. With no living relatives, he’d certainly be another statistic if not for the intervention of the policeman who found Taylor in the crawl space where his mother hid him that fateful night. Despite the tragedy and resulting anguish in his life, Taylor knows how lucky he is.

Frank Moore is a rookie with the Dallas Police Department when he and his partner answer a call in Devonshire, one of the city’s more affluent neighborhoods. They think the young boy in various pictures throughout the home has been kidnapped until they find him, shaken but alive. Officer Moore recognizes the pain in the kid’s eyes, having lost his own mother to cancer when he was just a boy. He steps in, making sure Taylor is placed with a loving foster family. Over the years, Frank becomes a permanent fixture in Taylor’s life.

A decade later, the case remains unsolved and the once gangly, uncertain teenager is now a college graduate who knows exactly what he wants. He’s coming home to the man that helped mold and shape his life, the man he’s loved for as long as he can remember, Frank Moore. But Taylor isn’t the only person returning to Dallas, and while Frank is distracted by his own conflicting feelings and the new bond growing between the two, the past creeps up on them, determined to finish what was started ten years earlier.

A note from the author…

I hope you enjoy Frank and Taylor’s story. It’s been a long road to get them settled, but I’m happy with where this story has taken them. When I started this book, the intent was to write a stand-alone story, but that has changed. Characters continually evolve throughout the writing process, and there are several characters in the book that want to tell their story. I’ve grown especially fond of Rory and I can’t wait to write his book, which will take us back to when he first joined the Bureau, and continue on to his happy ever after.

Please be advised: This is a May/December romance, and as in life, there are sexual situations that take place prior to the main characters finding their way to one another. This is not gratuitous; it is meant to show character growth and self-realization. There is absolutely no cheating.

I’ve read The Poughkeepsie Brotherhood Series and Beast and fell in love with this authors writing.  She has a way of making the most scarred and damage characters come to life where they just steal my heart. Such is the case in this story. It grabbed me at the first page and never let up.  The story is a bit stalker like but once I saw what the driving force behind said behavior was I was a goner.

Fenix and Becca’s story started 15 years ago but it was that day that changed Fenix’ life forever.  My heart broke for this little boy and the torment and evil he experienced as a child.  But I also felt his hope come alive when a little girl named Rebecca fiercely defended him from his abusive father.

Fenix is not a good man and his appearance is proof of that.  He’s gorgeous as he’s described in this book built, muscles and tattoos all over including the skull on his face.  This character although is tough and mean is sensitive and caring.  For 15 years he’s watched and protected Becca hiding behind the scenes because he feels he’s unworthy.

I adored Becca for her carefree life style and her humor.  She doesn’t judge people and even though she doesn’t know who Fenix is at first she feels she can trust him.  She lets him into her life and honestly I don’t know why she wouldn’t, he protects her with his life.

I really enjoyed the relationship and pull between these characters.  You get a real sense of depth Fenix’ commitment, love and loyalty to Becca is.  When I was reading this story I felt as if these were characters were made for one another.  Even as Fenix true nature comes out, Becca still knew how deep and true their connection ran.  When the evil connection between Fenix and Becca comes to get revenge their love and loyalty will be put to the test.  I loved Fenix’ conviction to Becca and his sense of loyalty to those in his very small circle.

As you can see Fenix character made me fall for this story it was watching this tortured man find light when he couldn’t trust anyone that really kept me enthralled.  He loved fiercely and intensely and I felt that throughout the pages.  The added danger in this story added a bit of suspense.  All in all this was a good read and very hard to put down.  The flashbacks are painful but help to bring Fenix’ character to life.  I can’t wait to get my hands on Animals ’ s book.

Title: COCKLOFT

Release Date: August 18, 2017

Synopsis

Cockloft: A firefighter term used as a structural space above ceiling and below rafters, often connecting adjacent occupancies and permitting fire to spread laterally, often unseen.

Gabriel Martinez is the most arrogant and infuriating man I’ve ever met. He has a knee-weakening smirk that makes me want to kiss—no—slap it off his rude, sexy face. Judging by his ego, you’d think the hose in his pants is as big as the one on his fire truck. Not that I know anything about that nor do I want to. Nope, not at all. He’s already been forgotten like last season’s Michael Kors.

CeCe Kensington is as pretentious and spoiled as they come. The ridiculous purses she shoulders around are as big as her attitude. And don’t get me started on her mile-long legs or full, glossy lips that are meant to be wrapped around a guy’s… If she only knew the dirty things I think about doing to that sassy mouth of hers, she’d be hightailing it back to her side of town.

I chose this on a whim. I loved the title and hey, it was about a fireman! I have one of my own so it was almost a no brainer for me. What had me weary is I haven’t had the best luck in finding great books that keep my attention. But I desperately continue to try and search them out….

Gabe, aka….fireboy and CeCe, Blondie, were immediately attracted to each other. Though, during their first encounter it was far from nice. They tried to spew the hate as they assumed the other portrayed as truth. But, in due time they saw how wrong they were.

“You don’t know me.”
“True, but I know your type. All you rich pretentious chicks are the same.”
“Pretentious?”
“Yeah, pretentious. Materialistic. Take your pick. After all, I did find you in the middle of a fire trying to save your designer purse.”

I was ready to see how far this hate would run and see just where the tables would turn but it was quickly revealed that there would be no cat and mouse game. The convenience of them running into each other was just that- convenient. In no time they portrayed feelings of being use to each other.  They seemed automatically comfortable and even went to bat for the other.  I wanted to see that build up and have the line slowly disappear from hate to want to all of the above.  The words were there with pushed tension because of their desire and preconceived notions, but after a week and not near enough attraction biting I didn’t feel their combustion.

“I am finally going to f**k the sass right out of you, Blondie.”
“F**k away, Fireboy.”

I also didn’t love her nickname for Gabe, in the beginning.  The instant she called him ‘fireboy’ I rolled my eyes. I love nicknames. I totally do. Along with flirting, give a new nickname that we don’t read with every other word I’m grinning wild. But, I have to fess up. The fireboy nickname grew on me! I think as I finally understood CeCe and really feel her character I started to smile when she would use it.

Happily, once I got over the first hump (literally and figuratively 🙂 ) I liked them. I think the push (even in a small amount of time) for them to dislike each other from the get go to have that hate to love type romance was to high but once they went for their attraction the ease of people/characters came out. I just wished there was more of this normalcy.

Overall, I felt this to be very plain. Extremely surface level. I want the underneath. Yes, they both had a upbringing that is easily heart tugging. It was what made them who they were but it didn’t draw me in enough.  Though I’m happy I enjoyed the main characters and the way they got started and each other superficial thoughts along with the added drama that was seen a mile away as plush.

I liked it. Didn’t love it.

Enjoyed parts. Not a whole.
