I am a huge sucker when it comes to a sexy hot man in a suit so when I saw this was not only one hot guy but the first of three hot sexy guys, I knew I had to check this one out.   Add in the fact I love finding new authors to read and have heard great things about Melanie Moreland so was excited to check this one out.

Bentley and Emmy come from two very different worlds.  Bentley is very proper, brought up with money where Emmy has had to work hard just to scrape by.  Their paths cross by coincidence and from the moment they meet, the connection is instant.  Bentley is normally the rigid, very serious business man but when he is spending time with Emmy, she seems to bring out a different side of him, but can these two people who are very different make it work.

I really enjoyed the premise of the book and must say it pulled me in right away.  I fell in love with Bentley and his two best friends.  I loved the bond these three shared and looking forward to getting both Aiden and Maddox’s stories.  I loved Bentley, he was very formal and your typical rich businessman but with Emmy we got to see a different side of him and I loved him more as we got to see more of the real Bentley.

I liked Emmy’s character and I liked how different she was from Bentley but I really struggled to connect with her character and at times her connection with Bentley.    I can’t really point to what exactly it was about her that I didn’t like found there were times that her character bugged me.  I felt the chemistry she had with Bentley but I did struggle feeling the emotion she shared with him.

Overall this was a good sweet read that added some drama and angst towards the end.  I enjoyed the authors writing style and love these three main male characters she has created for this series.  Although  I know I am probably in the minority but I found the ending of the book being a bit over the top for my liking but still an enjoyable read and has left me anxiously awaiting the next two books.

People fear what they don’t understand. Maybe that’s why they all fear me. I’m sure they have their reasons, I just couldn’t possibly care what any of them are. As long as they’re afraid.

Born to a drug dealer father and a drug addict mother, I’ve been through enough to make a normal person lose their mind five times over. I’m not normal. Normal is for weak people, and I’m anything but weak.

My childhood was made of nightmares, but there was one light in all my darkness. Her name was Reina Wilde, and when my mother would hit me or pass out in the middle of the living room on her high, I would confide in her. We were from completely different worlds, but she meant something to me, though I never figured out what, because she left. In the years that followed, I built a reputation for myself, and let go of any and all deluded notions of love.

I’ll never go straight now. It’s just too much fun taking things from people who are powerless to stop me. And make no mistake about it, I take what I want, from who I want, when I want.

I’m infamous in this city. But everything changes when, after years apart, I finally see Reina again, and she’s standing next to my enemy–the underboss of the Philadelphia mob.

It’s not just about power anymore. It’s not about respect. No, this is personal now.

Gasoline has been thrown on the flame, and for Reina, I’m about to burn the whole world to the ground.

This is the first book I have read by this author but it certainly will not be the last. The plot was not what I expected and not what I usually read but it pulled me in and had me hooked from cover to cover.

The plot was full of twists and turns and some parts had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I will warn you that this book has some violent parts so just keep that in mind when you begin the book.

The main characters name was Solomon and I don’t even know where to begin. He had a rough childhood and I guess growing up in the projects made him hard but holy cow he had a violent side that was ruthless. I felt sorry for Solomon and It made sense that he was the way he was because of all the horrible things he had to endure from such a young age. His relationship with his friend Nix was unique and true. Reina was the girl he became involved with and the way their relationship built was perfect. The author did a good job at making that relationship realistic. The author done her research on poverty and gangs and what it would be like growing up with nothing. I loved the way she wrote the main character Solomon. The things he said made you stop and think and you certainly could sympathize with him too. The book was just well written.

“I stop walking and face the blonde-hair, blue-eyed, adorable, beautiful, annoying little monster.”

The book flowed really well and the story even though had some pretty gory parts had me hooked and waiting to see how things were going to turn out. I don’t want to give away any of the plot but I will say the title is very fitting.

Even though this isn’t my usual genre I really enjoyed this book and certainly would read more books written by this author.

Oh this book … I love when I can see an authors growth when I’m reading a series and I got that with this book. This was a story I never wanted to put down and it was amazing how LJ entwined pieces of book 1. Yes, that’s a warning book one should be read first but if you don’t want to you can totally read this as a stand alone just know book 2 does spoil book 1.

Mia and Derek’s story is one that instantly grabs you and holds your attention and heart, it’s a story that you can’t walk away from and one that gave me the butterflies and hurt in my stomach I long for when I read. I will admit I had one complaint and it was the constant reference to Derek as a B.B. for me it was repetitive and overly used. Everything else though made up for that but I would not be honest if I didn’t admit I wanted to stab things the more it was used. I loved this story, I talked about this story for days after I finished this book and I really loved that I could share this story with my daughter. She now loves LJ’s writing as much as me!!! I highly recommend you listen to the playlist as you read because it completely intensives the story and I might have cried several times but that’s what makes me love a story even more.
