Have you ever felt broken? It feels like a part of you would never be complete again-like it would never heal. Jake Shaw is a bad man, an obsessed and deranged psychotic being who deserves to be locked underneath the walls of the cell he’s rotting in. The beating he received from Allan wasn’t enough and Alecia hopes he gets what’s coming to him. She didn’t ask for this, but he broke her, something she never thought would be possible.
Allan had a secret, an ‘addiction’ so to speak. He was in pain and didn’t have the balls to admit it. The one girl he allowed to get close to him was assaulted by his own brother and Allan beat his ass within an inch of his life. He went through a lot to hide the excruciating pain he endured everyday and his secret was about to be exposed. His life was spiraling out of control.
Could they hold on to the pieces long enough to mend their broken hearts? Or was it impossible?
I would recommend that you please read the first book prior to reading this review. There will be spoilers in this review and it is a good idea to know the story behind the characters.
This book in the Forbidden series picks up right where the first ended. Allan hears Alecia screaming and fighting, runs in and sees his brother Jake attacking her. Allan saves Alecia by pulling Jake off of her and beating him. Jake as we know is obsessed with Alecia and he cannot let her go. This book took me on one heck of a ride. We get to see Alecia grow, fight and find out the meaning of true love. I wanted so much for this book to go a certain way but the author surprised me and gave me a much better ending then I was expecting. This book deals with Alecia trying to heal from Jake’s attack and Allan finally becoming mature enough to be the better man.
After the prologue the author picks the story up 4 months later. Allan is trying to be there for Alecia by giving her space to heal while still being a loving, caring and compassionate boyfriend, but she is struggling to find peace, safety. And she is miserable. Allan’s behavior surprised me. He was the total opposite from the way he was in the first book, or so I thought. He was injured on his construction job and turns to alcohol and drugs to numb the pain. He makes some bad choices that add to the already fragile relationship they have. Alecia has changed in this one also. She tries to be supportive of what Allan is going through while fighting for their relationship despite Allan’s bad choices.
Alecia is dealing with so much in this book. Jake is constantly sending her notes, his trial is coming up, she received life altering news and Allan reverting to his old ways are just a few that she deals with. Everything eventually takes a toll on her and her health is put at risk. Just when I start to like Allen, he does things that end up making me cry, got me so angry that I hated him even more than I did before. Alecia’s character did a complete 360 and I was proud of the strong, independent and mature woman she became throughout this journey.
If you thought we would not be seeing Lance again, you were wrong. When he hears what happens to Alecia, our sexy rich man, steps in. Lance loves Alecia, and he steps up to the plate and offers her the support she needs through these very pressing times. Just like the first book, Lance made me swoon. Even though he knew Alecia loved Allan, he was there for her 100% of the way offering the friendship, support and loyalty Allan could not give.
Will Allan finally man up and be the man Alecia needs? Can he put his demons to bed? Will Lance finally win Alecia’s heart? Will Alecia finally get her HEA with a man that has claimed her heart? Ugggh and Jake, will we see the last of him?
Let me say right until the last page of this book did my heart rate finally slow down. This story had so many highs and lows I was not sure how everything would turn out. I do not want to give away the story but I was happy with the ending and understood what each character was going through. Rape, stalking and betrayal are things that can either make or break a relationship. I feel the author gave each character an ending they each deserved and shed light on their past so readers were able to connect with each of their struggles. Overall a good story.
