Matthew

Drafted first round pick when I was seventeen, playing first line at eighteen, branded NHL’s bad boy at nineteen. At twenty-three I was cut from the team and living back home with my parents. A knock on the door brought an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. All I had to do was prove I learned from my mistakes, so no way would I fall for a chick with a pouty mouth even if I wanted to spend all day devouring it.

Karrie

When my father gave me a job, I had no idea it would be to babysit some washed up NHL player. He wanted me to be his chaperone, his overpaid babysitter. I thought it was a joke. Then I met him, Matthew Grant. I wasn’t prepared for this particular bad boy. He’s not only hot but he’s arrogant and kinda sweet in a ‘you make me crazy’ kind of way.
Basically now that he’s finished screwing up his life, he’s decided to turn mine upside down.

She’s the first thing I’ve ever wanted more than hockey.

He’s the guy I know I should stay away from.

But what if this thing that started out so wrong turns into something so perfect?

Matthew Cooper Stone is my stepfather, the Cooper Stone who’s the best person to ever skate. He holds every single record that’s out there because he’s just that fucking good.
“What the fuck are you doing?”
I didn’t even have a chance to say hello before Cooper’s voice filled the room. I groaned and turned over to see that he was on speakerphone. My finger must have touched it by accident. “Matthew, seriously, I’m one second from flying out there and yanking you off the fucking ice.”
I was twenty-one and already being benched and scratched.
I was no chump. I was drafted first over all. The day still played in my mind. “The Los Angeles Royals choose Matthew Grant.” The minute my name was said, I sat there in shock while my little sister was yelling and my mother, Parker, had tears running down her cheeks while her face lit up with happiness and pride. Cooper was the first to grab me and stand me up.
“Go get that fucking jersey.” His voice was loud in my ear. My mother was next. “I’m so proud of you, Matthew, so, so proud.”
I kissed her cheek and walked down the stairs toward the stage from where the general manager, the owner, and the coach all looked at me. When I walked on stage, I tried to hold my tears in.
Taking the owner’s hand in mine, I shook it and thanked him. Putting that jersey on was surreal. Posing for pictures was a blur. I got so drunk that night I don’t remember much, except Cooper having to carry me inside while I pledged my love to my mother, my sister, and the trees around us.
Usually, once you get drafted, you start off on their farm team, but not me. I was on the starting line. I was up to my ears in silicone. There would be a different girl every night, everyone wanting to get a piece of me. The star of the team. Then my game started to slip. The late nights took a toll on me and my body. Three years later, I was sent down to the farm team. You’d think I would wake up, but no, not me. I just partied harder. I was on the front page of almost every single tabloid magazine that you could think of.
Every single summer I went back home, spending the time training hard with Cooper riding my ass, promising him that I was out of the party phase, but the minute my feet landed back in L.A., it was back to the booze and the puck bunnies. Another three years later, I was put on wavers. When no one picked me up, I packed up and went back home. For two years, I played hockey at home in charity games, till the GM from the New York Stingers came knocking at my door. Robert Western.
Cooper, Mom, and I sat down with him. My hands shook with nerves, my legs bouncing with happiness that someone actually wanted me.
“We want to offer him a one-year contract, with certain rules.” He eyed me and then Cooper. I knew Cooper had called in a favor.
“What is it?” I asked, holding my breath.
   “Chaperone.”
I was about to get up and say fuck that when Cooper put his hand on mine and blurted out, “He’ll do it.”
I looked at him while he glared at me. My mother put a hand on top of her husband’s. United. Always.
Robert slapped his hands together. “Matthew, you, my friend, are going to bring another cup to New York.” He got up to shake my hand and then Cooper’s, slapping him on the arm. “Who knows, you may also knock this asshole off a throne or two.”
Cooper laughed out loud, but I knew he would be the one egging me on, the one daring me to push him off. He would also be the first one coming to congratulate me if I ever did it.
He had come into my life when I’d needed a male figure the most. I just hadn’t known it. He showed me that you can fall in love with your whole heart and everything will fall into place. He showed me that you fight for what you want. But most of all, he showed me that love is a gift and once it’s given, you cherish it.
So now here I am on the plane getting ready to land in New York. I have to meet the owner of the team and the PR people tomorrow at noon. I scroll through my social media sites while I wait for the doors to open. My sister is tagging me in old photos of us from Mom and Cooper’s wedding. Feels like it was just yesterday. When you see the way Cooper looks at my mother, you know he loves her with all his heart. He would walk to the ends of the earth for her.
I press the heart emoji on the picture and then hear the ping of the seat belt sign telling us we can stand up. I grab my leather jacket and slide it on, put on my aviators, and grab my leather duffel bag. Walking out of the plane, I nod at the two flight attendants, who both slipped me their numbers. Numbers I left in the side of the seat.
Fresh start. It’s time to make my parents proud of me. Time to show the world that Matthew Grant is here for good this time.
On my way to my hotel in Times Square, I look out the window of the yellow cab zigzagging its way through traffic. Nothing in the world beats the cab drivers in New York City. You sit back and hold your breath while you pray to not end up being slammed forward. We reach the W hotel. I swipe my card through the card holder in the back, thanking him. I don’t even have time to close the door before he races off from the curb.
I enter and check in without having anything to say. The woman at reception starts going through her routine talk. I cut in. “What floor is the gym on?”
She smiles at me, telling me the information while giving me her private number in case I have any other questions.
I nod at her and then walk up to my room. It’s the size of a closet. Welcome to New York. I take my phone out to send a text to Cooper.
   Landed. Going to work out.
   Be good.
   I’m always good.
   Okay, then behave.
I laugh and throw the phone on the bed, and then get my workout clothes out of the bag. I grab my headphones and make my way to the gym.
I have texts from Allison, my sister, and Tom, who is married to my aunt Meghan and is an ex-NHLer, wishing me luck. But the one that makes me laugh out loud is from my Aunt Meghan, telling me that my dick won’t fall off if I don’t use it. I’m about to answer her when the elevator beeps, signaling I have arrived at the gym floor.
I walk to the gym and scan my card so I can get in. Usually, these hotel gyms are almost empty, but not this time. A girl is jogging on the treadmill, but I don’t make eye contact with her.
Grabbing a towel from the basket in the corner, I walk over to the other treadmill, look down at the buttons, and turn it on.
I start off slow while Drake fills my ears, but that doesn’t last long before I crank it up and push myself hard. I’m in the best shape of my life, thanks to my mom, Cooper, and Tim. They didn’t let me sit down and drown my sorrows in bonbons and booze. They had my ass skating at the crack of dawn. In the gym pushing and pulling. Meaning I’m the biggest I’ve ever been. My shoulders are wider, my waist leaner, my arms bigger.
I’m sweating up a storm, so I look over to see if the girl is still running on the treadmill, which is my first mistake. Not only is she next to me running as fast as me, but she’s in a sports bra holding up a perfect set of tits, her stomach bare, her abs defined but looking soft, and her little booty shorts not keeping anything back. She isn’t tall. Her blond hair swings in the air while she’s looking at the iPad she has in front of her. Is she watching the Kardashians? Jesus. She must sense me watching her because she looks over, which is when I feel the earth move under my feet. Her eyes are crystal blue, so blue it’s like I’m looking into the ocean. I almost trip over my own two feet, but I recover and smile at her. I turn my head forward and continue running till my legs feel like they’re going to snap in two.
Getting off the treadmill, I whip my soaking shirt off and throw it over my shoulder before I grab a water bottle and drain it all. I notice she’s slowing her speed. She shuts off the treadmill, dabbing her face with the towel that she has near her. She takes the water bottle, drinking in a good amount.
I start to walk out of the room when she gets off the treadmill. I stop right before we collide with each other, then put out my hand, giving her the right of way.
“Thanks,” she says, her voice soft, sweet, pure.
Following her out, I watch her ass swing in front of me. I don’t even notice she stops and I crash into her, grabbing her shoulders and making sure she doesn’t fall on her face because I was staring at her ass. “I’m sorry, I was…” I’m sure I don’t have to say anything to her because my cock is nestled in her back.
She shrugs my hands off her shoulders while she presses the elevator button. We stand here not saying anything while we wait. What can you say? Sorry my dick poked your back? Sorry I was watching your sweet ass instead of watching where I was going? Silence is golden right now.
When the elevator arrives, I wait for her to walk in before entering and see that we are on the same floor. Great. The ride lasts no longer than a second before the door opens and she sprints out, away from the crazy pervert who poked his dick into her back. I head to my door and see she’s in the room right next to mine. I want to say something, anything, but by the time I look up, she’s already in the safety of her own room.

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…

Seducing Lola front cover high res

I’ve had my fair share of bad relationships. I’ve dated liars, cheaters, shoe fetishists, and everything in between. Sure, these experiences would make any woman cynical when it comes to dipping her toe back into the dating pool, but I used my past for good and made a career out of helping other women avoid going down the same paths I had.

And I was damn good at it.

Until a random act of fate set my life on a course I’d been avoiding for years, and put me in the crosshairs of a man that made me feel things I swore to never feel again.

Now I’m in his sights and it seems like he’ll stop at nothing to seduce the hell out of me. He might hold my career in the palm of his hands, but if Grayson Lockhart thinks he can blackmail me into submission with his sexy voice and sexy hands and sexy everything, then he’s…probably right.

Excerpt

Prologue

If you’d have asked my twenty-year-old self what I saw in my future ten years down the road, I probably would’ve answered the same way as every other naïve co-ed living the college dream on Sorority Row.

I’d be married to the love of my life, raising our two perfect children in the suburbs—because the city is no place to bring up a family, obviously—and driving a top-of-the-line SUV that all the minivan moms would envy because I had way too much style to ever be caught dead driving a minivan.

Clearly, my twenty-year-old self was an idiot.

It was she who forgave—then was subsequently dumped by—my college sweetheart after finding him pile-driving my sorority sister from behind on the handmade quilt I’d spent countless hours creating out of his old high school football T-shirts as a birthday present. His brilliant excuse?

“You’re just not adventurous enough, Lola. She’s willing to try things in bed that you aren’t.”

Apparently refusing to allow him to film us having sex and entering it into a contest on a porn site was just too vanilla for him. Last I heard, he was making a killing on the amateur scene.

Unfortunately, my twenty-one and twenty-two-year-old selves weren’t all that smart either.

It was my twenty-one-year-old self who discovered I’d unwittingly been made a beard by Brad, the guy I had dated for six months, because his evangelical parents just “wouldn’t understand.”

BTW, Brad and Phillip’s wedding was a really lovely affair. He asked me to stand as his best woman—since he considered our relationship the reason he finally made his way out of the closet—but I turned down the honor, choosing instead to get annihilated on mojitos at the open bar.

My twenty-two-year-old self thought I had finally found a decent guy. That was until I came home to find him doing something I’ll never be able to unsee to a pair of Louboutins I’d spent the better part of a year saving up for.

The saddest part? I hadn’t even had a chance to wear them before his defilement. I didn’t have the heart to throw them in the trash, so I let him take them with him when I kicked his ass out.

I should’ve known better, honestly. It wasn’t like I’d grown up in a home with my very own personal June and Ward Cleaver. Oh no, my parents split when I was only six years old. And it was anything but amicable. My mom never kept her hatred for my father secret. And dear old Dad never hid the string of women he kept on tap, one for whatever mood he may’ve been in. It was shocking that I hadn’t grown bitter at an even younger age, having to deal with their drama, but I was in my early twenties and still a believer in happily ever afters.

Like I said, I was an idiot.

Now I know what you’re thinking. After three miserable failures, I was probably a jaded cynic who was convinced true love didn’t exist.

Well, you’d only be half right. See, I believed in love, sure… as long as it was happening to anyone other than me. I’d been the fateful target of that bastard Cupid’s stupid-ass arrow three times already; I had no desire to go for a fourth. I wasn’t anti-relationship when it came to other people. To each their own and all that jazz. And I didn’t hate men. I just didn’t believe they were of any use to me for anything other than a few hours of fun that eventually led to a—hopeful—mutual release before I sent them on their way.

I learned from my mistakes, grown wise as the years passed. I knew exactly what I wanted out of my life, and believe me, there wasn’t a shitty picket fence in sight. If the suburbs were for families, then the city was exactly where I was meant to be. I was a successful, accomplished thirty-two-year-old woman who’d gotten where I was in life by hard work, perseverance, and the cluelessness of women all around the world.

My name was known in households all throughout Washington State. I, along with my two best friends, hosted Seattle’s most successful female-based talk radio show, aptly titled Girl Talk. I’d managed to make more money in the past ten years by offering relationship advice to helpless women than I’d ever know what to do with.

It was safe to say the rose-colored glasses were off. I lived in the real world where men cheated and women drowned their sorrows in vats of Ben & Jerry’s.

Sure, I wasn’t living the future I saw for myself when I was twenty, but then again, at twenty, I still thought Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were meant to be, that Wedding Crashers was cinematic brilliance, and that the whole Tom Cruise/Oprah couch jumping “I’m in love with Katie Holmes” thing was actually romantic. What the hell did I know back then?

A lot had changed over the years. And as I gazed out the floor-to-ceiling windows of my penthouse apartment, overlooking the Puget Sound, I could honestly say without a shred of doubt that I wouldn’t have it any other way.

OMG!! I LOVED this one!! The chemistry and banter and witty one-liners had me peeing my pants.

This book started off on point and every page just seemed to shockingly getting better and better.  Ms. Prince did not disappoint with this one and I hope she has plans to write more books about these characters.

The two main characters were explosive together and the back and forth banter was probably some of the best I have ever read. You could not help but fall in love with both Gray and Lola and let me just say I loved all the secondary characters too. The chemistry between Lola and her two best friends, Daphne and Sophia was great. Not only were they best friends they were also co-workers for a talk radio show.  They added that extra layer of witty back and forth banter that made this a five star read for me.

“Hi, I’m Caleb”, he repeated, as though dazed by just the sight of her. ”I’m an Aquarius, thirty-five years old, the CFO of Bandwidth, and I leaned he proper way to go down on a woman when I was sixteen.”

Not only did this book start off with a bang it kept me laughing and sighing with Gray’s super sweet side the entire read. I think I highlighted half the book. Loved almost everything that came out of his mouth.

“You’re all I think about when I’m awake. You consume my dreams when I sleep.  I want to be near you all the time. And before you say it, it’s not just about the sex, even though I’ve never ha better- never.”

Lola was a spitfire that seriously had no filter and I think that was what I loved best about her. You never knew what was going to come out of that mouth. The conversations she had with her mom over the phone in the beginning of this book was LOL hysterical. My husband thought I was crazy with all the laughing I was doing while reading this book. Lola was easy to relate to and I had no problem connecting with her character.

“Eyes up, bub, or your crotch is going to meet the business end of my friend Christian Louboutin.”

I had a hard time putting this book down and can’t wait for the next book by this author. This is a must read for anyone that loves a fantastically written romantic comedy. This one will not disappoint.

About the Author

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

When the boat’s a rockin’, don’t come knockin’!

Out-and-proud travel writer Dan Taylor is a city boy who can’t steer a boat to save his life, but that doesn’t stop him from heading into the English countryside to write up a narrowboat holiday. Compared to London, the canal seems dull as ditchwater. Until he crashes into the boat of a half-naked, tattooed man whose bad-boy, penniless appearance doesn’t fit with his posh accent. Dan is intrigued, and he always gets his man.

Still smarting from a past betrayal, Robin Hamilton is firmly closeted in his narrowboat—his refuge from outrageous, provocative men like Dan. But as circumstances keep throwing them together, he can’t help himself from coming to the hopelessly out-of-place city boy’s rescue. Exposure to Dan’s sunny charm starts to melt Robin’s resolve and he’s tempted by the idea of a brief, harmless fling.

After all, in less than a week, Dan will have left the canal and be back to his diet of casual hook-ups and friends with benefits.

Determined not to fall in love, both men dive into one week of indulgence…only to find themselves swept away by a current of escalating intimacy and emotional intensity. Troubled waters they didn’t anticipate… and haven’t a clue how to navigate.

Warning: Contains one lovable tart, one posh boy gone feral, rough sex, alfresco sex, vile strawberry flavoured condoms, intimate body piercings, red thermal long-johns, erotic woodchopping, an errant cat, a few colourful characters you wouldn’t touch with a bargepole, and plenty of messing about on the river.

Kiss My Boots by Harper Sloan Review Tour

image001In this second of the sultry, Western-set Coming Home series from New York Times bestselling author Harper Sloan, Quinn Davis might finally have a shot at her own happily-ever-after—but will she let love in, or will she tell it to go ahead and kiss her boots?

Quinn Davis prefers to live her life quietly. She’s the stereotypical tomboy with two overprotective big brothers who have always been there to protect her, especially from devilishly handsome cowboys with silver tongues. That is, until Tate Montgomery comes riding into town. Their first meeting, however, is far from something out of a fairy tale and only further convinces Quinn that men aren’t worth her time.

The only place Tate Montgomery ever truly felt at home growing up was during the long, sweltering summer months he spent at his Gram and Paw’s farm in Pine Oak, Texas. Now, Tate has returned to his childhood sanctuary seeking a fresh start—but if he’s being entirely honest, he’s not just back for the wranglers and Stetsons. During those summers, Quinn was a friend-turned-young-love who Tate lost when life threw him a curveball and he cut all ties to his past; but all it takes is one glance at the raven-haired beauty he did his best to forget for him to realize just how much he’s been missing….

I am a huge lover of Harper Sloan.  I loved her Corp Security series and I absolutely loved Lost Rider, the first book in this series so I could not wait to get my hands on Kiss my Boots, which was Quinn’s second chance romance story.

Quinn is not your typical girl.  She loves being all girly but during her days you will find her under a car at her family’s garage fixing up the towns vehicles.  When she was younger she spent her summers with Tate Montgomery while he would come spend his summers at his grandparents.   They were in love with each other but after the summer he graduated and went off to college to become a doctor all communication stopped, and Quinn was left heartbroken and never let another man come close to her heart.  First her mother abandoned her, then her older brother and now the one man she loved.   Now many years later, Tate is on his way back to town and he is determined to set things right with Quinn and show her the years have done nothing but only make his feelings for her grown and not diminish

I am a true sucker for second chance romances and after reading Lost Rider and getting to meet Quinn in that story, I could not wait for this one.   Sadly I really struggled with this story and am probably in the minority on my thoughts on this one.  I really wanted to love it but this one just didn’t work for me.    I really liked both Quinn and Tate’s character and could feel their connection but felt that the pace of the story in the beginning was just way too fast.  I wanted to see more build up happening between these two characters.   For me it felt like after all that had happened over the years and then when the  reasons why it all happened came out, it was way to early on in the story.  There was nothing left for me to wonder about and have me keep turning the page to see if this was the page we would get more detail cause we already had all the detail.  I also felt that all was forgiven way to easy and it left story falling flat and nowhere to go very early on in the book.  I very early on was left totally disengaged from the story and found myself starting to skim pages at a time.

Overall this book just wasn’t for me.  I wanted to love it and I think that is why I stuck with it till the end but it just didn’t get turned around for me and pick up.  Personally I needed more build up between them and wanted more depth to the story.  I am pretty sure most will read this and love it.  Most  will probably disagree with my opinion and my rating but that’s okay.  Not every book works for everyone and out of all the books I have read by this author, this is the very first one I didn’t love.

She has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books, hibachi, tattoos and Game of Thrones. When she isn’t writing you can almost always find her with a book in hand.

When you can’t trust yourself, how can you ask anyone else to?

It’s been months since Aden Colt left the Army, and still the memories haunt him. When he moved into a tiny boat off the California coast, he thought he’d found the perfect place to escape life. Then Sawyer shows up and turns his simple life upside down. Beautiful and sophisticated, she seems out of place in this laid-back beach town. Something is pushing her to experience everything she can—including Aden. But as much as he wants her, starting a relationship with Sawyer puts them both at risk. For Aden, the past doesn’t stay there; it shows up unexpectedly, uncontrollably, and doesn’t care whose life it wrecks.

Oh no, fuck no!

I thought he was kidding. I should’ve known better. Aden’s intentions with me since I stupidly boarded this boat have been my torment for his enjoyment. He loved watching me squirm over the bait tank and when I proved I wouldn’t shy away from a challenge, he pulled out the big guns. From his flirty smiles to his teasing touches, he’s discovered my weaknesses and is exploiting them for his own entertainment.

Now this? Raw fish probably still warm from fighting for its life.

And now I’m God knows how many feet above water sitting on a two-seater bench held up by rusty ladders and staring down a piece of glistening pink meat.

“You have to eat it, it’s a rite of passage.” He offers the meat to my lips and I quickly turn my face away.

“I’m really not hungry.” As if the idea isn’t enough to turn my stomach, watching him clean the fish before sectioning off enough for lunch wasn’t much of an appetite builder.

“Of course you are.” He brings the piece to his own mouth and takes a bite, closing his eyes with a moan as he chews.

I feel a rush of bile hit my throat, or maybe it’s beer, either way it’s warm and it burns. “That’s disgusting.”

“You’re telling me you don’t like sushi?”

My eyes widen. Sawyer would say she’s never had sushi. But Celia’s a different story. She ate a live cricket in the eighth grade on a dare. She didn’t even flinch. “I like sushi, just not directly from the…um…source.”

“Doesn’t get fresher than this.” He takes another bite and I can’t deny that his response to eating it does give it some appeal.

“I think I need soy sauce or that green stuff.” What’s it called?

“Just try it.”

“I really don’t want to.”

“Oh come on.” He smiles in that cute crooked way that makes my heart dip and dive. “Live a little.”

I chew the inside of my mouth debating the cost/benefit of taking a bite of this fresh-out-of-the-ocean fish. On one hand, I’ll impress Aden. That in and of itself is worth the ick factor. But what if I throw up all over his boat? Is the chance of impressing him worth totally humiliating myself? I groan when I realize what I’m doing, exactly what I swore I wouldn’t do. I’m making an internal pros and cons list. I close my eyes and steel my resolve and my spine. Don’t think, just decide. I pop open my eyes followed by my mouth.

“Yeah?” He stares at my parted lips.

I nod, hoping he’ll hurry before I change my mind.

Lifting the rose-colored flesh forward, he places it between my teeth. It’s a small bite so I close my lips around his fingers expecting him to pull away…but he doesn’t. For a moment I’m suspended in his gaze, totally stuck while his hot fingers rest between my lips. This should be grossing me out; after all, I watched him gut this fish with his bare hands and to wash off all the blood he merely dipped them into the ocean. But all the thoughts of raw fish and a stranger’s finger do nothing to stave off the warmth blooming in my belly. My tongue pulls the meat deeper into my mouth, brushing against the rough pad of his forefinger. He bites his lip but finally drops his hand.

He watches intently while I chew and swallow.

“How was it?” His voice is low and gruff.

Lost in the heated moment, I barely tasted it. “Good.”

His hand cups the back of my head and he pulls me toward him, stopping just short of our lips touching. “I can’t fucking take this anymore.” His breath is sawing in and out, bursting against my mouth with impatience. “Let me.” It’s a demand, not a question.

A kiss. I don’t need to channel Celia or flip a coin…I know what I want.

I lick my lips and close the slight distance between us.

I have been wanting to pick one of her books up for a while now as I have been hearing great things but never seemed to get a chance to.  I finally said enough is enough and picked up Wrecked and  I am so glad I finally did as it was a fabulous read that I devoured in less than one day.

Sawyer Forrester is coming out of her comfort zone to carry out her twin sister Celia’s dying wish, go to San Diego, pack up her belongings and while she is there, pretend to be her.  Her other wish is that while she is there to not try to analyze everything and just make all her decisions by flipping a quarter she gave her.  Aden Colt has been discharged from the army and is trying to recover after he and his unit was ambushed that left his whole unit dead except for him.  Both Sawyer and Aden are not truly living life because of their fears and their past but now that their paths have crossed, a connection is formed and they find a way to heal together.

I truly was not sure what to expect going into this one but was so pleasantly surprised.  This one sucked me in immediately and I could not put it down.  I fell in love with Aden immediately but my heart truly broke for him.  He was such a good man who trusted the wrong person and was left to deal with the guilt of that for the rest of his life.  He was also such a strong man but so very broken.  Although as time passed and the connection he had with Sawyer / Celia got stronger, I loved seeing the real Aden, the one that wasn’t so broken, the one who had something to live for.

I really loved Sawyer’s character.  I loved that she was willing to step completely outside of her comfort zone all for fulfilling her dying sister’s wish.  I loved her quirks but I loved that bit by bit she began to conquer some of her fears, not only for her sister but for Aden as well.  But most important, I loved watching her slowly become a better person that truly enjoyed and lived life and this story played out.

I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic the author built in this book and I loved the pace of it.  It has a sad and serious side to the story, but also had a more upbeat side to the story seeing Sawyer and Aden begin to heal as their connection grew.    This story was so beautifully written and even though it broke my heart, it also healed it.

Overall this was such a fabulous read that truly touched my heart.  I must say at times this one truly took me on an emotional rollercoaster but I loved every minute of it.  This may have been my first book by this author and it may have taken me a long time to get to her books, but this won’t be my last and it won’t be taking me long before I pick up another one of her books

Hard Love by Joanne Schwehm Release Blitz & Review

Title: Hard Love
Author: Joanne Schwehm
Genre: Contemporary Romance Standalone
Release Date: July 18, 2017

Noah Winston’s life was perfect. He had it all: striking looks, more money than he could ever spend, good friends, and any woman he wanted.

Margo Perry’s life wasn’t perfect, but it was her own. She didn’t need a man to make her happy or feel better about herself.

Then he saw her – a gorgeous, rain-soaked stranger – but she wasn’t a stranger at all. They’d known each other a lifetime ago, when she was just a girl. Now, she was all woman.

Then it happened. The man she had spent her teenage years lusting over rescued her on a bleak yet fateful day. There he was, straight out of her dreams, looking better now than he had years ago.
The more time he spent with her, the more he questioned everything he knew.

The more time she spent with him, the more those old feelings resurfaced and grew stronger.

Too bad it only took one night, a few words, and a terrible decision, to ruin it all.

Too bad it was too good to be true.

Hard Love was my first book by this author but I must say the cover was the first thing that caught my attention and the synopsis was what sold me.  I love a good childhood crush on the older brother’s best friend type of storyline, it’s got the forbidden side to it but also a bit of the dream come true sweet side to it.

Margo Perry as a teenage girl had a mad crush on her older brother’s best friend, Noah Winston.  But when she asked him to prom, he turned her down and broke her heart.  Years later, after travelling in Europe she is back home and focused on making a success of her new business, Exquisitely Yours.  Noah Winston is running his family’s company that he inherited from his grandfather and while out to dinner one day with a friend, he ran into her and offered her a drive in the rain.  He’s immediately intrigued by her and wants to see her again but convincing her is not so easy.  Margo realizes she could very easily fall under his spell once again so decides to try to protect her heart rather than have it broken once again by Noah Winston.  Will Margo’s childhood dreams of Noah become a reality and will her heart be still intact when it does.

I loved how strong and independent Margo’s character was and how even though she once had feelings for Noah, she stood her ground with him and also made him work hard to win her over.   Noah was also such a great character.  He was very rich and handsome and was one of the most eligible bachelors in NY but I loved that he wasn’t cocky or arrogant; especially when it came to Margo and that he also wasn’t afraid of having to work hard to win her over.

I really enjoyed the premise of the story of childhood crush becoming a reality many years later.   Although I must say I really struggled connecting with the storyline and being engaged in it in the beginning.  For me it felt a bit rushed in the beginning and the pace too fast,  I would have loved to see a bit more build up happen between these two.  I will add though that as the story progressed I did find the pace to slow more down to a much better speed and it helped me become more engaged in it.

Overall this was a sweet enjoyable read with some really good hot scenes.  There was no denying the chemistry between these characters.  This may have been my first book by this author but it won’t be my last.

“You were going to give it up to Duncan Dickerson?” he sneered. “Are you serious?”

I halted, staring at him. This was not good. “How do you know about that?”

“Anders overheard you and Hang talking.”

“Bastard.”

“Well?” he demanded, acting all authoritarian. Idiot.

“To be fair, I didn’t know his last name was Dickerson,” I said. “That’s unfortunate. Though, I wasn’t actually planning on marrying him, so . . .”

“Not funny.”

I shrugged.

“You barely know the guy.”

“Um, yeah. None of your concern. We’re not talking about this.” How mortifying! My face burned bright. People should just gather around and cook s’mores. “I appreciate that we’re friends. You mean a lot to me. But this is going to have to fall under definitely none of your damn business, so go away please.”

“We’re talking about it.” He advanced a step.

“No we are not.” And I retreated.

“You were going to let a complete stranger touch you.” Advance.

Retreat. “People do it all the time. You do it all the time.”

“But you don’t,” he said, taking the final step, backing me up against the side of his car and getting all in my face. “Edie, this is your first time we’re talking about. Isn’t it?”

“Yes, and it’s going to be messy and painful and probably horribly embarrassing and I just want it over and done with.” I tried to meet his eyes but failed, settling for a spot on his right shoulder. “You’re not a girl; you wouldn’t understand. Also, last time I checked, you’re not the gatekeeper of my hymen, John Cole. So back the fuck off.”

He said nothing.

Deep, calming breaths. “Look, someday I’ll meet someone I really like and we’ll have a deep and meaningful relationship and go at it like bunnies. But I don’t want to be the dumb virgin in that scenario.”

He slowly shook his head.

“Also, I do not want to die a virgin.”

“What? What the hell are you talking about?”

“Hey, you and I both know death can occur at any time.”

“This is crazy.”

“I’m seeing a therapist!” I told his shoulder. “I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m a little bit messed up these days. It’s hard for me to trust people. That’s not going to change anytime soon.”

He screwed up his face at me. “Wha—”

“I’m just trying to be practical.”

“Well, you’re being ridiculous. None of this makes sense.”

“It does to me.”

Again, he said nothing.

In fact, he said nothing for so long that I finally looked him in the eye. The anger had left him, replaced by an emotion I didn’t recognize. Worst of all, he still smelled like summer. A little sweat and the open night air, everything I loved. Liked. I meant liked.

“What?” I said, finally.

He let loose a breath. “I’ll do it.”

Trust is completely different from Kylie Scott’s Rock series.   Trust is a mature  adult read, mature in the sense that this books deals with some harsh topics such as, drugs, violence, murder, steamy sexual situations PTSD.

I really enjoyed this book. It is told in Edie’s POV and I really felt we needed John’s POV.  John played a major role in this story and in Edie’s life. It didn’t take away from this very emotional and moving story but I think it would have shed more light on John’s character.

The opening of the book is gripping after Edie decides to go to the store for her friend, her life changes forever.  The entire robbery scene was breathtaking and heart pounding tense.  John and Edie’s life never connected until that night. John being the voice of reason as he tries to save not only Edie’s life but his friends and his own.  What happens that night changes  other their lives and their outlook on life forever.

Edie was bullied in her private school because of her weight and her Asian ethnicity.  Edie realizes life is not guaranteed and things can change at a moments notice so aspect ingredients the cruelness and harsh words from other one longer sits well with her.  She fights back in her own ways and decides public  school is better for her.  It is there she runs into John again.

I have to say their relationship was strange  because the only thing that tied them together was that night.  John no longer wants to be the bad boy, and has stopped selling drugs and is now focused on school.  He becomes Edie’s protector and friend.  The both are dealing with the repercussions of that night and together they try to make sense of the changes they are going through.

John was strange because he didn’t seem to want more from Edie yet he was always there.  Edie grew a lot through out this book but she did somethings that I questioned.  I enjoyed how slowly their relationship evolved.  You can see the immaturity in both of them through out that process.  John was definitely the alpha in their relationship and in a good way.  When they both got their heads together and we’re on the same page it was a beautiful and not so innocent relationship.  No matter how much he tried not be, John was a bad boy and man, he had a hot dirty mouth.

Overall this was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to especially to young adults over the age of 18.
