The rules of the game don’t apply off the field in this first Barons novel.
New York Barons tight end Gavin Brawley is suspended from the team and on house arrest after a video of him brawling goes viral. Gavin already has a reputation as a jerk with a temper on and off the field—which doesn’t help him once he finds himself on the wrong side of the law. And while he’s been successful professionally, he’s never been lucky when it comes to love.
Noah Monroe is a recent college grad looking for a job—any job—to pay off his mounting student debt. Working as Gavin’s personal assistant/babysitter seems like easy money. But Noah isn’t prepared for the electrifying tension between him and the football player. He’s not sure if he’d rather argue with Gavin or tackle him to the floor. But both men know the score, and neither is sure what will happen once Gavin’s timeout is over…
This book is the first in a new series.
I want to say if you have never read a book written by Santino Hassell then you seriously are missing out. Anything this man touches is gold and this book is no different. Illegal Contact is one of those stories that will definitely please the masses. Hot men, snark, hilarious banter and a moving storyline. What more can you ask for?
Gavin is this brute of man who’s currently on house arrest because he can’t keep control on his temper. Football is his life and the only thing that has been a constant, but this grumpy, sarcastic man who doesn’t trust anyone is forced to hire a PA to help manage his life outside of the confines of his home. Things get a little messy for him.
Noah isn’t your everyday twink/nerdy looking guy. He’s no push over and is definitely not afraid to stand up for himself. Taking on a temporary job becomes quite demanding at times but he certainly won’t let anyone especially someone like Gavin run him off. I loved that he gave as good as he got.
Noah was the perfect match for Gavin. I loved watching him become the calm to Gavin’s storm. What I really loved was how Santino gave us two very likeable characters that each brought a lot to the pages and to their relationship. They were a joy to meet and I loved every second we got with them. It wasn’t always smooth sailing and at times things were down right volatile. The best part of this story was being able to watch these men build a deep seeded connection with so much trust and respect. I truly loved seeing Gavin go from this ball of anger and frustration to a gentle giant where Noah was concerned.
This kind of story is exactly why I love to read. I’m not a football fan but give me sexy, swoon worthy flawed characters, a little bit of angst that will tug at my heart strings, a wonderfully written story that will have me smiling all over the place, then I’m all in. I loved everything about this book and can’t wait to see what Santino brings us next.
Santino Hassell was raised by a conservative family but grew up to be a smart-mouthed, school cutting grunge kid, a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into a grumpy introvert and unlikely romance author with an affinity for baseball caps. His novels are heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, and his desire to write relationships fueled by intensity and passion.
He’s been a finalist in both the Bisexual Book Awards and the EPIC Awards, and was nominated for a prestigious RITA award in 2017. His work has been featured in BuzzFeed, Huffington Post, Washington Post, RT Magazine, and Cosmopolitan Magazine.
