We are proud to present our newest book, One Step Too Close. It is the #6 in our biker-themed series, Sex & Mayhem, and for the first time, both of the main characters will be actively involved in the outlaw lifestyle. Members of the same club, big, strong, and yet very lost in what they feel for one another. The fact that they had been raised as brothers, despite not being at all related, doesn’t make things any easier.
We came up with the two MCs while writing our previous release, Guns n’ Boys: Swamp Blood, where they fill in the roles of secondary characters. One Step Too Close, is going to be all about them. Jed and Ryder will have to face long-held secrets, fierce jealousy, a love that shouldn’t have happened, and a threat that could cost them both their lives. Loyalty to their motorcycle club will clash with a forbidden love affair. Jed’s daredevil, self-destructive attitude will clash with Ryder’s ambition, and controlling nature. They will both have to learn how to compromise instead of butting heads. Oh, but the compromises will be most delicious!

— One love. One motorcycle club. Two stepbrothers. —
Ryder. Controlling. Ambitious. Protective.
Jed. Self-destructive. Trapped. Lonely.
Their love? Forbidden. Taboo. All-consuming.
For Jed, the Coffin Nails Motorcycle Club is family. With them, he learned how to think, what to enjoy, and how to fight, but there is one thing he knows his friends can’t find out about. They would never accept him as gay, and so his life is a constant struggle with desires that fill him with despair. Only there is a much darker secret lurking in Jed’s heart. His feelings for his stepbrother, Ryder, go far beyond brotherly. Trapped with a yearning that can never be fulfilled, Jed spirals out of control and unwillingly puts the love of his life in danger.
Ryder is climbing up in the ranks. Recently promoted to Sergeant-at-arms, he has it all: drive, respect, and the love of his biker family. When his stepbrother gets into trouble with the law, Ryder decides to take the blame and save him from a long sentence. Deep inside, he knows there is nothing he wouldn’t do for Jed, but through a desperate attempt to suppress his own hidden desires, he might irreversibly break the man he secretly loves.
But finding out what they feel for each other will test their loyalty to the Coffin Nails MC and change their lives for ever.

Jed pushed through a group of chattering people and entered the crowded lounge. He almost slipped on the wet floor but held on to a chair and pulled himself up. In the red light he rented out for the party, with the psychedelic mixture of metal and beats streaming from the speakers, everyone looked the same, and with the numbness in Jed’s brain, he had an especially hard time finding Ryder. As ashamed as he was of himself, he still wanted to be close to him. They still needed to have a chat, get drunk, and for just a few hours Jed could cheat himself into believing that there was value left in him. That everything would turn out fine.
When he finally found Ryder, it couldn’t have been any more disappointing. Tucked into a leather sofa in the corner, he was locked in a sloppy kiss with one of the strippers Jed had hired for him. Her naked breasts were brushing against Ryder’s shirt, caressing his chest through the fabric. Her hand was in Ryder’s silky hair, the same way Jed wanted his to push his fingers into that mane. Her ass, covered only by a tiny thong, was moving back and forth over Ryder’s cock.
Jed couldn’t think straight and went to the claustrophobic restroom by the kitchenette. As soon as he was in there, he locked the door and started punching the wall, gasping for air. He didn’t care about his knuckles hurting, and punched until at least some of the image of Ryder with the stripper blurred. At times like this, he felt like there was no saving him. Like the whole world was this dark, dirty restroom with a ceiling so low he had to bow his head as he entered.
Jed tried to tell himself that at least Ryder was having fun, but the scene also emphasized just how much Jed wasn’t needed now. Once he left the restroom, slightly relieved and aching in his hands, he wasn’t exactly happy to see Tom by the bar, but he still headed his way. At least he wouldn’t be getting plastered on his own.
One MC, two sexy brothers, an all- consuming love
throw in some danger, blackmail and steamy intense moments and you get one heck of a story.
I don’t think there is anything K.A Merikan could write that I wouldn’t love. These authors really know how to write some pretty complex characters that you can’t help but fall for completely. There is certainly never a dull moment. I can’t help but be swept away by the insanity that surrounds their characters. I haven’t read many books where step brothers fall in love and I’m not sure where I stand on that in real life, honestly I haven’t put a whole lot of thought into it, but when I get to indulge into a fantasy world that is beyond what my personal experiences are… OMG sign me up for more it. HOT AS HELL!
Jed and Ryder… Gah! Nothing better than sexy tattooed men with pierced junk! 😛 What can I say about these beautiful, imperfect Alpha men? I lived them, I believed in them and I could not get enough of them. Jed is so lonely, impulsive and destructive, stuck in an impossible situation. Ryder is more level headed, in control and trying to be everything he can for his club. They both love their club but the feelings they hold deep inside them is one they can’t control. Ryder is the clam to Jed’s storm and I’ll tell you this, Jed certainly doesn’t make it easy for Ryder with how impulsive he is. However, you really do get a deep sense on how much they really care for one another. As the story progresses you really can see the struggles they have with wanting to be together in world that will not accept them.
Their love is forbidden. Being in an outlaw MC means that there is no way they will ever be accepted for who they truly are. Ryder is the VP of the MC so he has a lot of responsibility weighing him down. Jed being the most important one to him. The emotions are felt throughout the pages and that is something these authors do so well. They really give such a detailed account of what is running though these characters heads and hearts. There isn’t a moment where you won’t know where they stand with one another. Their first moments together, first touches, first kisses, first time having sex was just so carnal, beautiful and needy. The want and desire between these men is so palpable. I loved how tender, honest and greedy they were with each other. Not saying that it was always pretty but these authors really made every encounter sexy. Whether it was them in a dirty bathroom getting it on, or them lying in bed being real with one other. I just loved everything about these guys.
If you read Guns n’ Boys Swamp Blood then you’ll know all about Dana and what she’s holding over Jed. I wanted to throttle her back then for how she acted, and I can definitely tell you my hate for her just grew to new heights. If she pissed you off then, she’ll really piss you off now. You know that saying what goes around comes around? Ya, that happens and I can’t wait to see how that story progresses.
There is only one thing I really wished had been added to the story that I didn’t get. I really wanted to be a part of that meeting once Ryder made a decision about his future with the MC and Jed. However, I really do love how these authors integrated these two series together. It seriously is genius. These ladies amaze me with their story concepts as well as their character development. They are always intriguing, entertaining and the best kind of escape. I can’t wait to see what more these authors have in store for us next.
A. Merikan is the pen name for Kat and Agnes Merikan, a team of writers, who are mistaken for sisters with surprising regularity. Kat’s the mean sergeant and survival specialist of the duo, never hesitating to kick Agnes’s ass when she’s slacking off. Her memory works like an easy-access catalogue, which allows her to keep up with both book details and social media. Also works as the emergency GPS. Agnes is the Merikan nitpicker, usually found busy with formatting and research. Her attention tends to be scattered, and despite pushing thirty, she needs to apply makeup to buy alcohol. Self-proclaimed queen of the roads.
They love the weird and wonderful, stepping out of the box, and bending stereotypes both in life and books. When you pick up a Merikan book, there’s one thing you can be sure of – it will be full of surprises.
