Review Blitz: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan

room-mate_amazonThe last time I saw my best friend’s younger brother, he was a geek wearing braces. But when Cannon shows up to crash in my spare room, I get a swift reality check.

Now twenty-four, he’s broad shouldered and masculine, and so sinfully sexy, I want to climb him like the jungle gyms we used to enjoy. At six-foot-something with lean muscles hiding under his T-shirt, a deep sexy voice, and full lips that pull into a smirk when he studies me, he’s pure temptation.

Fresh out of a messy breakup, he doesn’t want any entanglements. But I can resist, right?

I’m holding strong until the third night of our new arrangement when we get drunk and he confesses his biggest secret of all: he’s cursed when it comes to sex. Apparently he’s a god in bed, and women instantly fall in love with him.

I’m calling bullshit. In fact, I’m going to prove him wrong, and if I rack up a few much-needed orgasms in the process, all the better.

There’s no way I’m going to fall in love with Cannon. But once we start…I realize betting against him may have been the biggest mistake of my life.

3.5 stars

If you are looking for a quick read that’s fun and flirty then The Room Mate is definitely one you should check out.  Add in the fact that this is also a “friends to lovers” story with the romance being a forbidden one and I knew this was one I had to check out.

Paige has never really had luck with relationships and it’s been a while since her last disastrous one.   She lives a simple life living on her own and likes it that way.  But that all changes when her best friend asks her a favor, let her brother stay with her for the next two months until he finishes his residency.  Cannon Roth shows up on Paige’s doorstep and is not the same nerdy younger brother she remembers.  He’s now a doctor and is totally of the charts sexy.  Cannon has his own problems with relationships, woman fall madly in love with him immediately and the last few have gone a little psycho.  Cannon and Paige’s attraction is immediate and totally off the charts and they struggle to fight the attraction.  That is until Paige learns about Cannon’s curse when it comes to women and she decides she’s going to prove that it’s simply not real while having some fun.

I really enjoyed both Paige and Cannon’s characters.  I liked the dynamic the author built up between these and loved their banter.  I did find the author jumped a bit too quick into things between these two but was glad that after the initial quick pace, things slowed a bit with them and the storyline to a nice pace.  I must add that Cannon was totally swoon worthy and I would definitely love to volunteer to test his theory but already know I would lose, one night with him and I would be a total goner.

I enjoyed the premise of the story and how the storyline played out but the one down side that tended to continually take me out of the story, was the minor inconsistencies with the storyline timing.  I know they may be minor details,  but for me, when the inconsistencies happen, it makes me stop and think back to what was just said to timing and what was originally said and realizing timing is contradicting itself.  It also makes me go back an re-read just to make sure I am not wrong and it pulls me out of the story and in the end, sadly it make my reading experience less enjoyable.  Had these inconsistencies not been there, my rating would have definitely been higher.  Some may look past these, some may not notice these at all, but for me when I am reading, accurate timelines in a story make or break a book for me.

Overall it was an enjoyable story with some really great characters.  I do love this authors writing and the characters she creates and must say I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
