I know so might find this story taboo and I might be a little naive but I for one fell in love with Cam and David.
In just a second in time Cam’s life is changed and everything she thought was her perfect no longer exists. This story deals with real topics such as self harm, depression, alcohol abuse and child neglect. There were times that my heart broke and I wanted to reach into this book and take Cam and hug her.
Cams character is one that will stay with me forever. She’s 17 years old but so mature, damaged and confused. She knows that after the accident she no longer sees life the way she once did. She’s no longer like her friends or the rest of the kids her age. She is also strong, confused and trying to find a place for herself in her new world. David comes into her life in at time she needs no judgement just guidance. It is through this time together that the two develop a love that is taboo. I loved how David saw so much more to Cam than others couldn’t. He was able to reach her and bring out of the darkness when no one else understood or cared.
This was a story that although the subject matter was hard and the relationship between Cam and David taboo, I couldn’t stop thinking this is so right. I tried to fight that feeling but the more I got to know these characters and their story the more I saw a true and honest love. My heart broke for Cam, she went through so much in this book but I also appreciated how the author deals with the emotional and traumatic damage. The author weaved together a perfect story of healing, love and forgiveness. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommended it.
Blair, takes her readers on an emotional roller coaster with her books. Blair tends to drift towards love stories that are deeply layered with emotional angst. Give her a character and she will dig into their core to find what lies beneath.
Aside from writing, E.K. Blair finds pleasure in music, drinking her Starbucks in peace and spending time with her friends and family. She’s a thinker, an artist, a wife, a mom, and everything in between.
