Slap Shot (Aces Hockey #5) by Kelly Jamieson **Beth’s Review**

My name’s Max Hall, and I need to f***. As a pro hockey player who’s been away from the game for over a year, my libido has picked one hell of an an inconvenient time to come roaring back to life.

After my wife died from a rare form of cancer, sex was the last thing on my mind. Same with hockey, the other love of my life. Now, after fifteen months of eating too much, drinking too much, and generally just feeling sorry for myself, I’m facing a steep uphill battle to get my ass in shape and play my way back onto the Chicago Aces.

So I’m not looking for a relationship. Just sex. Yeah, I know how that makes me sound. But the truth is, I’ll never love another woman the way I loved my wife. When I meet a sexy bridesmaid at my teammate’s wedding, I decide to scratch that itch. A fling with Kendra Armstrong in her posh hotel room could be just what the trainer ordered.

Not only is Kendra smokin’ hot, she’s dynamite in bed—one of the perks of being a sex toy designer. Since she lives in New York anyway, we agree to keep things casual, no strings attached. The arrangement is perfect . . . until one of us falls in love. And it’s not me.

I am a lover of anything hockey, especially hockey romances and must say that I am really enjoying the Aces Hockey series by this author and the great cast of characters she has created in these stories.  I must say though I would have a hard time choosing a favourite out of them all.

Max is not your typical pro-hockey player where as he has taken time off from hockey after helping care for his dying wife and then taking some time after her death.  Now he is fighting to get back in shape and get his spot back on the Chicago Aces.  He needs to focus on that one thing and not complicate his life with a relationship or love.  Although it’s been a long time and he’s ready to get back in the saddle and find someone to hook up with.  And that’s when he meets Kendra, the hot red at his friends wedding.  The attraction is instant between these two and both are on the same page.  They live in separate places and agree to just something casual and keep in touch.  That grows into more, at least for one of them it does and then things become completely complicated for these two.

I really loved Kendra’s character.  Even though she seemed to attract losers, her character was such a strong female.  She was proud of what she did and wasn’t ashamed that she was a sex toy designed and that she loved sex.  I really enjoyed max’s character.  Even though he was a bit of your typical hockey jock, he was also sweet and caring.

I really liked the dynamic of the story the author built.  I will say going into this one I didn’t really know what to expect as Max was just getting over the loss of his wife and struggling to get back his hockey career.  I wasn’t sure if the storyline of his wife’s death might make this one a little bit of a heavy read but I must say I was pleasantly surprised.  This one did have a few sad moments for me but for the majority of the book it was fun and very flirty at times.  I really enjoyed the banter between Max and Kendra whether it was via text or an actual conversation.

Overall this was a sweet enjoyable read that  I enjoyed.  It had some really great hot parts, how could it not with Kendra being a sex toy designer and had some really great fun and flirty parts.  I also loved that it had a bit of hockey action added in.  This was a great read and can be read as a stand alone but must say, it is enjoyed much more reading as a series.
