I love second chance romances so I jumped at the chance to read Take Back my Heart. This was a fairly quick read. The drama, angst and the added danger made this story entertaining. The author goes from present to past giving a clear picture of what happened to Connor and Lauren. Connor and Laurens’ story is a mix of sweet and pain, a story that drew me into every page.
Connor made a mistake when he walked away from Lauren years ago, he’s never gotten over his first love. After his grandmother dies Connor goes back to the town that holds the love of his life. Lauren has never been able to forget Connor or the way he ripped out her heart. Divorced and being a mother to her son Elliott is all she focuses on.
Connor was awesome! The author did an amazing job with this character. The words she used to describe his feelings and reactions he had left no doubt in my mind where his heart was. I really loved that. Lauren on the other hand gave me whip lash at time. I get it, how can you really trust a man after he ran out on you years ago. I totally got her confusion when she was around him because I mean who wouldn’t be cautious, but the man never faltered. Of course I’m coming from outsiders point of view, but I really loved him and I felt like she should have relaxed a bit. Can you tell I was a little bit invested?
I loved how the author didn’t just focus on Lauren and Connors relationship. I loved that she developed a relationship between Connor and Elliott. I loved watching their interactions and Connors genuine concern for Elliott. Over all this was a good read, it was emotional and had great promise. The author doesn’t smooth things over quickly with Connor and Lauren, it takes time for the two of them to settle their differences and built trust again. That alone made me like this book so much more. It felt real and raw. If you are looking for a second chance romance with a touch of realness than this is your book.
